I had given up on the game called Evony it was becoming a very aggravating game so I was looking for a new free to play online game for a few months. In those months was playing the new Starcraft and it was starting to get old as well. Then Yahoo and it's off the wacko edge headline news had EU as their main news article and person selling CND for 300K USD by just playing the game so just had to check it out. Saw it was free to play had an RCE which I have never done before so just downloaded it and started playing. Took me a week to find myself hooked on the social aspect mixed with hunting and mining. Read some of the forums and controversy and wham I was suckered in for good :p Nothing like a game with conspiracy theories about every aspect so makes you want to check it out for yourself :)
I am now a pretty steady depositor, not in the expectation to make profit and cash out and retire, but in the spirit to play a fun game with some really nice and interesting people from all over the world.

    lol, Max! You played Evony?!
    :D

Heh, so did I until I realized that in order to sustain an army large enough not to get laughed at you pretty much had to be a tweaker andf play 24/7...Otherwise, it was a decent game. People sure get butthurt in that game tho...

What's funny is that Chesty and Gunzy played Evony as well as were in my guilda nd they longtimer EU players - why bother with a considerable downgrade on a game like Evony? I know of one other oldtime EU player that played as well....
Gunz turned me onto EU after I decided not to become a meth head and continue with Evony.
Chesty was too drunk to put together that the "aj502" seen in EU for 2-3 months, and occasionally hung around Gunzy (same soc) just might be the same "aj502" from the other crap game!

    :D

Pfew, that was some time ago.

It was back in 2002 and I occasionally bought a magazine for gamers.
I didn't play any online games at that time but I did play the usual stuff, like C&C etc.
In this magazine there was a very tiny article about a beta project called Project Entropia.
It involved a Real Cash Economy on a virtual world.

Being a sci fi nut, this idea appealed to me.
So I followed the link, signed up and logged in.
I was dropped in the old swamp somewhere near Port Atlantis in Mr. Bean style and my first Entropian I met was a Berycled.
Lucky I could avoid it so I survived.
Keep in mind that back than you had to hover as a ghost to a revival if you where killed.
Thats why dieing was called "casperized".

Well a little later I told some colleagues about it and had them joined and I deposited my first $15.00.
PE wend gold in 2003 and in early that year I founded our soc.
My colleagues all stopped playing and well after 9 years I am still here.

I changed my home to Arkadia and still loving it to play PE.

    Regards,
    Ion

First read about the implamentation of Cryengine2 in EU (never had played virtual worlds or MMORGs before) on Tweakers (Dutch tech site for real geeks)..I was one of those who had anticipated Crysis for a long time and actually played it so I was aware what the beast could do. The FREE to play and open structure, endless maps and a sci fi setting made me curious. I downloaded, loved in an instant it with all its major and minor flaws and never ever bought a game again :)...is it *universe* that keeps me there? For a part yes..but its mostly the awesome community

I originally discovered Project Entropia in August, 2002 on MPOGD. This was back in the days of single-core processors, bulky monitors heavier than a small child, and VCRs. The concept of one huge, sandbox world appealed to me. More importantly, it was the entire concept of exploring a mostly hostile pioneer world in a science fiction setting that drew me in. Toxic swamps, androids, robots, piranahas and other native beasts -- they were all against you. There were a few established cities with a scattering of smaller towns. Mostly there were small single-building outposts out in the wilderness with just a TT and repair/revivial terminals. Many didn't have turrets or TPs. One could explore for many hours, even days, without seeing anyone. Robots attacked settlements -- newbies and vets fought side-by-side to repel them. (And the next day there were music videos on the Entropia Pioneers forums chronicling the battle). Calypso was truly a pioneer world. The chill/techno-ish music added to the atmosphere all the more. There was no other game like it out there. There still really isn't.

Long story short, I played until May, 2005. I always missed the game, but could never bring myself to come back. In recent months I decided to peek in and see what's going on. While I was not particullarly impressed with the developments on Planet Calypso, Planet Arkadia peeked my interest. It reminded me greatly of the earlier days on the original planet, and I could only find good things said about the development team. I am playing again for the last 11 days...with no regrets.

(Well......maybe one. The single chatbox is absolutely horrendous, akward and time-consuming in constantly needing to change the filters to read the wide variety of messages. Customizable tabs are a wonderful thing. And unless I have somehow completely missed the buttons to set those up, such tabs are a greatly useful feature.)

My friend told me about this game back in 2003, he explained me the skill system which is similar to morrowind. I've used to play that game a lot but i didnt like the skill cap. It was fairly easy to "max" my character and I was looking for some challenge. I didn't have internet at that time, so kinda forgot about EU till late 2004 when I could afford to pay internet bills. Well so I've downloaded it, install it... but it required an email confirmation to play. My email never came, so I gave up. And started to play UT2004 online and other games a lot.
Somewhere in June 2009 I was bored as hell and I've decided to give EU another try. I've spawned in PA, had totally no idea how to control my avatar, how to do anything... There used to be booths near PA with guns and stuff. I thought I can pick it up and go for some shooting. But I found out it's not that easy and free lol. So after few hours of watching other avatars and wandering around, I've learned you can sweat in this game and sell it for some peds. I've enjoyed it a lot, met my first mentor who gave me ammo and few parts of pixie.
Well few weeks after that famous VU 10 came and guess what... I couldn't run it without crashing every 5 minutes. I didn't have patience to find a solution so i gave it up and came back with better PC at summer 2010. And here I am, deposited few $, enjoying game to the max and trying to reach that level 100 what is my long-term dream and goal (currently at level 47 laser hit and 44 dmg) :)

Almost 4 years ago now my friend sort of forced me to start playing EU. I was looking for some new game to catch my interest, and was not really willing to pay for one at the time. I was game jumping, download a new one to try about every 2 days. Finally a friend came over and while I was out of the room for a minute he started EU downloading on my computer. I really wasn't sure about it, but gave it a try and my friend became my mentor. He got me off to an easy start by giving me some ped in exchange for some RL work I did for him, but I shot that up pretty fast. He knew that if he could get me to deposit I would be hooked though, so he repaired my clothes. It was not long after that I had to depo to get out of the orange and have been hooked ever since.

I am not sure why it took me so long to get the nerve to try Entropia. I sure wish I would have started a few years earlier. From the looks of things, new content is constantly being implemented to hopefully this game stays active for years to come. They Crytek2 engine is quite lovely.

The main reason I am here is because I have been in an MMO slump of sorts. Let's face it...the past two years have seen some shoddy titles. I tried and quit Warhammer, Perpetuum Online, SWTOR, AOC, CoH, LOTRO...you get the point. I even tried resubbing to my all time favorites Dark Age of Camelot and EVE. I just couldn't get into it.

EU is the first MMO (I consider it an MMO) that I've played where I am actually feeling that 'addiction' again. Very exciting. Not to mention I've probably only seen like 1% of the content. I'll still keep an eye on GW2, The Secret World, Planetside 2, and a few others. Not to mention Diablo 3 should be out soon (if Blizzard gets their employees in line). So there are some very promising titles upcoming that will make for nice dessert games. I am thinking EU will be the main course for quite some time to come.

I came to EU mainly to explore and craft. I saw this as a fun game where one would need to fly planet to planet to build up on needed items to craft. Of course once I joined the game, I found it wasn't as I was guessing..but still I'm here for life.

I hate to admit it, but I too am a refugee of Evony.... 1.5 years in EU now... I had stopped playing Evony for awhile and then looked around for something new..... I prefer strategy based games and the RCE aspect gives EU a strategy feel you don't get with other games.

A lot years ago i play a "text only" online game with fantasy subject. Then in 2006 i read in a science ficcion newsgroup about this Project Entropia, "if you need nice weapon you can take VISA and buy". I study character creation but then i was not sure about give real name and card info. Then i forgot the game.

In march 2007 i read in a magazine article about virtual world "Second Life". I build a character and try enter, but i am surprised my computer is not enough for play.

Then i remember the science fiction game i almost visit in 2006. I return, build a character, and when i see my avatar with orange clothes out of little space ship in Port Atlantis, addiction start hit me.

I first read about Project Entropia (PE) on computer magazine. It was my first MMO game and i really liked the idea of Robot wars and new planet as i am big science fiction fan :) So since then its my first and best MMO ever... After Planet Arkadia was launched i moved here and became AA. I love Entropia Universe and i love Arkadia!
