Where did your Avatar Name come from?

Chiba is a Japanese town on the eastern part of the island Honshu.


It is also an common Japanese name I just.... used randomly, I am not Asian or have any connection to it else than my online name The name just... felt right at the time

 

Fuega on Calypso asked me this very question . Mark is a biblical name so why not , Power from Mr.Power from the simpsons sounds good anyway had it in my head at the time, Rufen no idea how I came up with that one but in the end my avatar name has as many syllabols as my real life name. So I thought it fitted nicely Mark Rufen Power. I could of wrote it as Mark Power Rufen but it didnt sound as impressive hehe.

Long ago I used the name Arutha from Raymond E. Feist stories as part of a D&D character name. He was Arutha Surana Kelewan, the third son of an elven king. Being the useless third son he was sent off to be an undercover traveler in the human lands to learn the human ways so the elves could negotiate better with the humans. The name he used in the human lands was Calin.

Surana, Kelewan, and Calin were just names I made up that seemed to fit. I had no clue that Calin is apparantly a fairly common name in some parts of the world.

I always really liked that character because he was in a new place learning about a different world. It was a natural fit for Entropia.

Faye = name of my old cat
Ranpha = Name of character in Galaxy Angel (blond)
Natsumi = name of character in HyperPolice which was a catgirl

I first started using Ranpha and so is my name on Pcf still but during the Guide program I show my full name and ppl started calling me Faye. Roos from DEM called me Faye also and when i meet her in RL she called me Faye even (my mommy was present and was like WTF , btw this was on some witch event they both liked and i was dragged too it) so Faye kinda sticked.

 

I can understand you naming yourself after a panel van ( my first car was a panel van) but a ford mmmmm.

My avatar name goes back a long way.

Skytle comes from a sci-fi book I read in my early teens (prob Heilien, Poll or Herbet not sure). I fell in love with the name and wanted to name my son it but wasnt aloud (thankfully)

DblooD has been my gamer name since early C&C, Warcraft1, Stronghold etc etc because I love D blooD.

Dryke came from my 5 minute foray into second life at the insistance of my flat mate.

Most know me as DblooD.

 

Ava names....hmmm mine is kinda unique....

well first off the Avatar name is Raven Raven Valicur, usually just called Raven.

the name comes from 3 sources....
1: First name Raven is a direct pull from all my First Person Shooter games ive played...All my online names are GeNeRaL RaVeN 1. thus i pulled that off and used that.

2: the Nickname is from one of my favorate Edgar Allan Poe Poems..."The Raven" just happens to be same as first name...didnt notice it till afterwords =/

3: the last name is unique...comes from my college addiction to d&d like role playing games...my best character ever created was a blood knight name Szeizer of Valicur so i took his surname to use as Ravens surname....

that that was how Raven Raven Valicur came to be, very unique name to me and very personal =)

2 years after making the name i was explaining the porno name thing to my family and just laughing at some of the names that came up and found out we never had a boxer dog called Butch, it was Duke ahh well

The Molly McGuires started as something like a trade union movement in Ireland a couple of centuries ago supporting the workers against oppression, taking their name from the woman whose house they used as a meeting place. They also crossed the Atlantic during the emigrations where they evolved into a more Mafia-like organisation who were most prevlent around the Pittsburgh area. As a side note, it's also teh origin of the 'Mollies' in Freelancer.
The long Sherlock Holmes story "The Valley of Fear" is also based on the situation in Pittburgh around that time. Another side note: Conan the Barbarian is named after Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the author of Sherlock Holmes.

'Red' was simply something short and sweet to use as a nickname. Then I found out just how many 'Red's there are in EU! I went by Red initially in VU8, as my ava was originally a redhead, and then with the Barbie VU I used the free makeover to model my ava on my youngest daughter and decided to use 'Molly' as my displayed name as it was more girly and less confusing.

Calin is the son and heir of Aglaranna, the Elf Queen of Elvandar, and her deceased husband; and Kelewan is the Tsurani homeworld, where Pug was taken when he was captured during the Riftwar. If you haven't yet read the 'Empire' series by Feist and Janny Wurts I cannot recommend it strongly enough. Read it!

April + Raven: This is from one of my fav adventure games: The Longest Journey.
The heroine of this game is one "April Ryan" - she was then referred to as "Raven" in the sequel Dreamfall ..that or I remember it all wrong, there's also a Crow in the story...oh never mind

A funny thing: April move around in two very different worlds: Arcadia and Stark.
A lot like I do now; travel between Arkadia, Calypso, NI!

In stead of Ryan I picked Phoenix just as another bird reference on top of Raven...

 

Aura Chlorene Lily - so where did this come from? Aura came from my name in an old 3d chatroom I started playing with in 1995 called Activeworlds I was a faery there named fae Aura so that kinda stuck. When I moved up to Second Life I added Lily since we had to select a lastname from a list and the shortest one on the list was Lily I chose that (wanted to be Aura Wu but was not available) and when I migrated to EU I needed a middle name so I used one that I have used for forever. Chlorene - what my friends called me in school which derived from my name Chloe Irene, go figure.

So there you have it Lots of fun names out there!!

Nice to hear your stories behind your names. And so i`d like to do my part too. Althoug its not a big thing behind.
To be honest, i didnt know to play this game or not. Just wanted to sneak inside.......... and so i didn't do a lot of thinking about a cool thing with the name. Even because not knowing that we can play around with the Names by selecting. If i had know this before for sure and that i'd stick with this game, and the abilitys to do with. I'd have done better !! (perhaps)
The firs two just popped up in my mind and i took them. Just added a second "s" to "Chriss" to make it a little bit unusual at least.
"Ruben" was unusual by its own from the beginning and i like the sound of the "R" and the ending of the Name when its spoken in English
So i took this as the Main one later.

"Nomad" well it just stands for traveling around and a free mind. Not to hold with borders.
Altough i like to stay onArkadia and will feel it as a Home in game as long as i'll play it. Good to start a new game at a new Upcoming Lokation.

So it came to the "Chriss Ruben Nomad" an i feel fine with it.
Even when i have a Flashing idea of an other Name which would really rocks. Now when i have one already.
Its to MAKE yourself a NAME in a metaphorical way spoken what counts at the end.

i agree with naming Gamerelevant things in leaning of Cars.
I named a Corporation (like Socs here) like a Car in an other Game.
It was a "Karman Ghia" the one and only car which can really touch me. But thats an other story an should be told an other time

 

Mine is probably the most uncreative.... I picked from where I lived and a flower..UGH! Terribly creative I know..Hahaha!! Im just wondering why no one chose the name "Kizoo" from the Flintstones? hehehee!!

So I googled "name generator" and picked the seemingly funny sounding "Drag Queen Name Generator" from Rum & Monkey.

I added "Charlie" for the middle name....
