It's been what 12 years now and the combat system is still pretty much exactly the same. Stand in front of creature. shoot every 1-3 seconds until health is low, switch to first aid pack, heal, go back to shooting. It's so boring. Add to that the lag and stupidity of trying to heal and it wont switch and you die, monsters get stuck you can't hurt them but they can hurt you. So heave forbid you try to use some sort of tactics to not get hit like run around a rock for cover. Hell even if you have enough evade so that the mob doesn't hit you, the system thinks your "cheeting" so it becomes "trapped" and you have to wait for it to hit you before shooting.

I dont even loose money that much hunting but i have not been able to b ring myself to do it for most of a year now because it's just not fun especially when you compare it to all the new MMO's out there.

Entropia seems to have one factor that keeps people playing and thats the Casino factor, everyone thinks they are going to hit it big. It could be so much bigger if it was actually fun to play and not just a scratch ticket.

Will we ever get a better combat system?

If I want a different combat system, I play a different game.

To me, EU's system is perfectly fine for what we are doing here. Also concidering 'skill' in a new combat system would change the outcome of the returns of the kills, which could be unfair to some players.

Thats kind of my point though isn't it. Not going to be much of Entropia left if everyone is playing a different game.

something less mechanical. I want to be able to take cover behind stuff, dodge attacks, have enemies think smarter then run strait into you and attack. Enemies with mutliple ways attacking. Wouldn't it be better if oratan would actually hold a position and defend it instead of running strait into you.

Change the fire rate and health of everything so it doesn't feel so slow.

Make loot automatic so your not tyring to kill one creature at a time.

I shouldn't have to come up with all the ideas thats MA jobs. They should just go out there look at all these new Sci-fi MMO's out play them then come back with some fresh ideas.

Correct me if I am wrong but isn't the point been that it's still thriving continuing expanding and it's 12 years old ?

How many others have survived the 12 year stage and how many companies over the 12 years have been bought sold merged.

Also how many of these new mmo's can stand the test of time and how many of these need you to invest in them.

    Not quite.

The hunting in the game is like any other shooter. Aim, lock, shoot, kill.

If you want players to dodge/evade by running behind a rock or wall, I can see it happening that skilled player are able to kill any mob by circling a tree and not getting hit at all, making armor redundant. (Like that time when you could avoid getting hit by continuously stepping forward into the mob.)
Making an animal "unreachable" because of too high evade or dodge, will crash the market in defensive skills, and man, as a hunter I would for sure start selling out as something like that is the most annoying thing to happen.

The way player<->creature interaction works, and has been unchanged, is because of fairness. We have a loot system that is based on decay and cost to kill, and with the current mechanisms there is no need to change. Every one has equal access of armors due to the auction or crafters, and every one has equal chance of skillgains through playing or buying.

Hence, if I want a different combat system, I'll play another game.
Not that I would leave if they change it, but because I sometimes want to do something else than hunting in entropia, I indulge myself in some Sims, Diablo/PoE, or freecell for crying out loud.

When I joined EU I was quite active in FPS games, and was pretty deadly with a virtual gun. heh I preferred to play on 1-shot-1-kill rifle only servers, where you had to have perfect aim and fast reactions to win. But then I joined EU, and I havent played an FPS game since.

EU has more of an rpg style combat system, which is hella boring compared to FPS sure... but it's still good. I enjoy this more relaxed style of combat as well, and I think it fits EU perfectly. I don't see a way they can drastically change it, without losing some of the magic.

*If you want more action while hunting, try doing it naked. I have been doing this alot the last few months, and have really enjoyed it. Since there is actually a chance to get killed, fast reactions and timing of fapping plays a key role, adding some small amount of RL skill back into the picture. Just a thought :)

Yep, add much more complexity to hunting and you start to impact the RCE aspect of the game. There are some things they can do to improve/vary creature AI but I don't think we'll see much beyond that.

Personally I think the only thing I want to see changed is a little bit of the mob AI. Specifically the way that a mob just standing still near a tree, rock, etc. can become unreachable because they simply get hung up. Even then I have had Kadra get stuck on a tree and I have circled them shooting from all angles and they WILL NOT come unstuck. Maybe part of the mob spawned inside the terrain but I'm not sure. Just the only thing that seems broken to me in the hunting system.

On start we were able to dodge /evade/ use terrian/ hide behind objects/ trap and was also addvertised in official game guide as how to surrvive better.
Normal hunting method was - shoot, run, turn back and shoot, repeat until mob is dead.
Ofc we were wery fast at least twice as now. Trox could not reach you so easy.
Nobody had uber skills and "unreachable" was not implemented. (well nobody could buy or sell defence skills too in that time)
Today saldly happen when fighting solo mob that he get stuck. Not so often but still. Like you shoot him and he miss alot or is that you evade those hits and when is time that he finaly hit you - you step/move/run back. It seem like is on time - if mob dont hit you in certain numbers of tryes or in certain time he get stuck - you cant do damage but he still can kill you.
As this happen sporadicaly or rarely we can live with that but there is a lot worse things with that "unreachable" effect.
Many hunters used in past to collect mobs and then kill them.
But today if you do so, half of them in circle attacking you cant be damaged and on top of that they start dancing in circle arround you.
Thats one side, another we can see on every oratan event when big lancer get stuck.
That "unreachable" newer worked good and still dont work and MA shud work on that.

Hunting with rifle and pistol is mostly same as in past if we think on movements and animations.
Melee changed. In past we had way better animations, movements with powerfist and shortblade.
It was possible to avoid/prevent mob single atack by steping back or on side and not only with some invisible uber evade skils as is now.
With powerfist or blade when you atack you could do two hits with one swing. For exampe you hand start moving versus mob from start position to litle on left, you hear sound when you hit mob, then your arm /hand is going back and you hit mob from right versus left and you hear also sound that you hit mob.
Not only hear - it was clearly visible animation.
Best was to see fight between two umbranoids (pre orb umbranoids) and learn a lot - they run arround, slide to side, step upfront , step back, a lot of different attack movements with hands (they had blade) ect until one died.
We had many changes in EU, some nerfs and some bugs.
Today seem you have just one single boring animation and movement when using blade of powerfist.
Also something with sounds or maybe with other is changed in mode when you use fast powerfist or blades you dont hear sound when you hit mob each time but it seem only one way hit, second one when hand is turning back is missing.
But if you look in chat - damage you see you did it. It look like powerfist that have 92 reload is doing 46 hits or blade wich have 86 reload is doing 43 hits. That and simplified animation was wery boring MA made.

MA is unable to inplement crouch - shoot, lie down and shoot, sit down and lie down what shud be quite easy in confront of good animation and movements for melee fight, let alone using special skills wich every game have except EU.
Well few more movements and sound sync could be good start, let alone balance between professions - half dead mob - mean half dead melee fighter wich decayed during that half versus half dead mob - mean full hp and not decayed ranged hunter. Imagine PVP melle vs ranged - we can only measure time how long melle figher wil run to reach ranged figher in close combat before melee fighter die. Well with good gun he will die on half radar distance eh.

We dont have many things because of RCE and also because most players dont care, they like static object in wich they throw money - i mean they shoot and then wait slot machine to see result - i mean shoot and kill then loot.
But EU shud be more open to wider player base so not only to gamblers but also to normal consumers who just play and pay for entertainment.

So i agree with RexDameon - MA shud find more time between various crowd funding sales and long term future plans like political system, taming, compets to update litle by litle every part of existing game and its functions.

Hello, I am new in the forum and pretty beginner also in the game but reading this thread i thought to add my personal ideas about the combat system. I understand it may be really complicate to change the whole combat system for several reasons:
    1. EU is not a TPS but a MMORPG with real cash economy. I would like to see a fast combat system but I think it will upset too much the game. I played other games who mixed up TPS and RPG like in example Firefall and ok, I enjoyed it alot but all of them lacks of the deepness EU has.
    2. Moving too much the combat system toward something where the main factor is the player personal ability in shooting and dodging like FPS/TPS games may effectively reduce the need of armors crashing down the economy.
Nevertheless the actual combat system is really really really boring and lot of friends of mine leaved the game for this, regardless the great graphics and the real cash economy.
So, what EU team or Arkadia team can change without to totally destroy the game?
Well, to me there are some little things that can be improved to make the combats a little bit more... dynamic:
    1. Mobs should bump me when they attack me instead to stay 4 meters away (I don't understand how they can hurt me if they are so far from me...). Just reduce the distance between the mob and the attacking avatars. It will make things much more realistic.
    2. Add some violent reaction in mobs animations when they attack, i mean claws/paws/tail strokes, biting, jumping on the avatar
    3. Add some violent reaction in mobs animations when they are hit, i mean falling back, head shaking, roars and some blood. If you want to avoid gore, make green blood or yellow blood...
    4. Add some violent reaction in our avatars animations when they are hit, i mean falling back, head shaking, falling on knees and some blood. If you want to avoid gore, make green blood or yellow blood...
    6. Allow mobs to move and jump around when in combat. Lot of players use the RPG combat, clicking on the mob, drawing out the mob label on screen and starting the autotool, so their playing style won't be affected by the new mobs movement but who like me uses the first person view to shoot... wow... much more fun to follow the mob movement trying to shoot to it using the viewfinder!!! To compensate for this imbalance you can maybe give a little dmg boost to who uses the first person shooting.
    7. Render visually the "evade" and "miss" with real mobs animations.
Those changes are not that "game impacting" but they are surely "visually exciting" fgiving a boost to the actual combat system without create great earthquakes in the game.

Forgive me for the bad english but i am italian.
