Old quote from the now defunct affiliate program website:

Took me a while of digging in archives to figure out where I'd read that originally... but here is the thread and links:
old info on the way fees worked (not sure it's still accurate)
    http://www.planetcalypsoforum.com/f...fee-question&p=2676474&viewfull=1#post2676474

and where that quote originally came from is from a site that no longer exists, but is in the internet archives' way back machine... https://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.planetcalypso.eu/en/node/71

If it still works that way where auction fees go to MA and PP, I don't know... but it worked that way in 2010 apparently, so I'm guessing it still works that way?

Not sure if this is a restatement of someone else but I believe MA puts the 101% conversion rate on shrapnel to encourage players to convert their shrapnel into universal ammo and lose PED on hunting rather than TT'ing it and having MA pay you back. The best option would be to find players that buy high quantities of shrapnel and sell it to them for less than 101% but more than TT. Unless you plan on hunting again than you save yourself an extra PEC every 10k shrapnel.

Its a pity shrapnel can't be used in crafting, it would be nice.

right! it should be used in explosives bp for instance.

That's a reasonable idea. You should tell MA. Because you get shrapnel when you use explosive ammo why not be able to recycle that?

I second that. Better even, 100 shrapnel and 1 nova should make 101 explosive projectiles.

I filed another suggestion regarding shrapnel earlier:
    http://www.planetcalypsoforum.com/forums/showthread.php?273599-Suggestion-for-shrapnel-conversion

Either solution would be good, but both would be great i.m.o.

quite naturally the first thing i connected shrapnel with is explosives. donĀ“t know why this is not used for crafting explosives or weapons maybe.

btw can shrapnel be auctioned? :whistling:

    It's a not a thought through suggestion.

    1. Markup of shrapnel would be forced above 101% and one of the main reasons people paid thousands first their bps would be gone.

    2. I am not sure there is enough shrapnel in game to support the idea. The markup would go even higher and it wouldn't be possible to craft as much as crafters do.

Sooo.... Bps would be screwed up.

It certainly requires more thought, but explosive bps were the ones that screwed everything up in the first place. If they want to undo the damage, they have to screw explosive bp owners now. MA is caught between a rock and a hard place either way, but they've done it to themselves entirely on their own.

Not sure exactly what you're talking about but from what I heard you create explosive projectiles with materials you buy from the tt. This seems like a cycle where nobody wins considering MA makes you have to go through them to buy materials.

How about using it instead of metal residue to make up the TT value of guns etc?

I think it would be more of an inclusive change than a substitution, the need for metal residue encourages crafters.

San is right on. Explosive BPs need to be changed ASAP. Using shrapnel instead of nanocubes would be a good solution that minimizes the impact on the explosive bp MU and it will help the economy to start to recover from the market crash in late December caused by introduction of the BPs.

People seem to assume the intro of Explosives BPs was a rash decision on MA's part. I'm not so sure that's true. It seems clear to me that this was just one component of a broader plan to increase the likelihood of sustained profitability for MA. In order to do this, they have to balance the unique aspects of a real-cash economy and the chance to hit it big with the need to have most players consistently deposit and lose ped.

Over time we've seen incremental changes to make certain items less exclusive, thereby decreasing the massive advantage enjoyed by many long-time players. We've also seen a decrease in markup on the majority of items, making it less profitable for sellers, but also cheaper for buyers. Whether these things equate to profitability for MA plus continued enjoyment by the current playerbase, I don't know, but I thought it was pretty clear this and other actions are part of a broader plan.

This really sucks, I understand MA needs to make money too but controlling the player driven economy seems like a bit of a stretch on their part, their job is to keep the game running and add occasional items for the overall enjoyment and benefit of EU.

I've always converted and used it straight away to conserve laser ammo, and any blp ammo I get I tt and use the ped to buy laser ammo, but having read all this thread I'm thinking storing it may be the way to go. Either save it for a rainy day or when it gets to be a big enough stack trade it.

MA control all aspects of the economy from drop rates to which items drop, to limited/ UL weapons etc. I believe it has gone from a bad place (very poor auction etc) to a far worse place with the implementation of Explosive BP, shrapnel and strong boxes etc. There doesn't seem to be a consolidated plan unless its just to maximise direct profit for MA whilst screwing the entire economy for the playerbase. I am a firm believer that all items should be crafted (even ammo) from mats which are gathered by players (mining, hunting and the new resource gathering). This would make all professions interdependent and make things work much better.
