Why am I the only one that has realised this?

    1) Make a quest, make it repeatable
    2) Set the reward to be a type of stackable that has 1*10^(-6) in TT value
    3) Make the quest quite bothersome, i.e. "Scout the planet" "Scan x creatures" "Nosedive into the concrete x times" etc
    4) Make the quest reward essential in some BPs

Congratulations! You've now made an alternative to sweating. Great for planets that have no sweat hotspots (RT/NI/Ark) or any nexus fields whatsoever (Ark).

Almost anything would be better than sweating to be fair. Sweating is just way too boring. If newbies can have fun while making tiny bits of cash they'd be much better off.. I like your idea of "scouting locations" or "scan some creatures" and whatnot.

I have a perfect idea as well!

    1. Go out in real life and make some $$
    2. Deposit
    3. Enjoy and have fun! :D

Waaay easier than sweating or doing slave work in Entropia =)

    Fail troll is fail.
Try writing up something somewhat amusing instead of just copypasting.

Agreed, go cut some lawns and deposit that cash. Or instead of buying the newest arcade game from xbox live deposit that.
    Way easier then sweating.

However, for people who like sweating all the power to ya.

The Quest Idea seems like a great Idea for newbies. I wish they had that when I started.

I vote for depositing, however if You spot me ingame and have noob stats if scanned, I'm willing to buy some sweat, just to support any newcomers around there :)

i have to agree here with both sides

an alternative to sweating is really nice, gives new players options and allows them to learn the planet.

On the other hand depositing is much easier, 10 bucks can go a ways for a new player. However some people do not have that luxury =/ i know a few who cannot deposit and have played for years on sweat. they never got far, but they learned to manage their pecs.

I vote add some alternatives, you will gain more players willing to stick around imho.

I really would support the implementation of a sweating-alternative... it doesnt have to be easy or even make more money, it should rather be something that newbies finds fun and that makes them want to stay in the game

    Exactly, you got it right!
It's quite upfront, especially on Arkadia, how newbies are greeted with the "Go deposit so you can do this beginner quest for me".

I'm not saying newbies shouldn't have to learn about the nature of the game - or that they shouldn't deposit. But it's detrimental to try and not let them experience anything remotely fun. The first few days, especially the first hours of gameplay are make-or-break and I think we can all agree that having more players is a good thing.

The standard "lawl go deposit instead 2 play teh gameh 4 free!11oneeleven" is so overused that it seized to amuse several months ago.

It's not about making money, it's about allowing players to do stuff for free, which sets up the illusion that the game doesn't have a consistant cost attached to it.

You probably haven't noticed, but recently the player retention has gone from mediocre to plain awful. The fact that you can't do half the stuff you could do years ago, is probably a key factor to this.

OK I think the original post was a good idea so lets please not turn this into a "stop being so cheap" thread ay?

There has always been a line between depositers and non depos so lets just accept that and move on.

The reality is that the Entropia platform should at least from the most basic level be "potentially" free so there has to be a "free" way to have a go/trial at the game before you need to spend money.

The Genesis area and, for Calypso, gateway help with this but, like they did on Calypso, its good for the newbie experience to continue a bit planet side. There is a POINT to sweat. Its in many ways a way to weed out the wheat from the chaff in terms of players who want a free ride verses those who are up for a bit of a challenge. There is a reason sweat is not auctionable. Its to do with forcing players to interact with others. Through this they make friends and learn stuff and hopefully stay in game

We could do with mentoring back though I suspect...

I agree with the opening post. Also if MA or whoever brings back taming (pet ownership) maybe fruit walking won't be a waste. Or create a desire for stone texture to be used. Walking is boring though. Something more interesting to get new people hooked would be nice.

We are on Arkadia, so let's do something that is fitting for the planet...

For example, soon we are supposed to get Treasure Hunting. So, why aren't the newcomers searching somethink archaeologists need for the restoration of artifacts? Maybe searching for a special microfine sand, that is used for the nanorepair of glass, enamel or porcelain.

Or maybe a microcrystalline ironsand that can be used in an oscillating magnetic field for cleaning - or refine it to simple iron ingots. ;)

To get it more interesting - and to stop farming - maybe it could be done like mining. Imagine a Finder/Extractor (one tool please!) with a range of let's say 300m range. So the newcomers will come around and won't stay in one place. And because the found material is not distributed like normal ore and enmatter, there should be not much load on the server.

Any activity that is done for 'free' and has any value will have to be paid for by people who deposit.

The price of sweat is no accident.

Yeah, true... BUT: If the demand isn't high enough, then nobody wants to pay a good price.

Think of it this way: You have so many sweater, that produce - let's say - 1 million bottles of sweat every day. But there are only a few hundred users of TP Chips here, who burn about 10k bottles of sweat per day. Do you see, what will happen? Because there is so much sweat, its price gets lower and lower.

And be realistic: A bottle of sweat is worth 0,00001 PED. So 1k bottles are worth 1 PEC. But you get per try just 3-5 bottles. Now think of 100 hunters, that loot just 1 PEC per day less. Quick calculation: 1 PED = 100,000 bottles of sweat. If 1k hunters loot 1 PEC less per person, you have 1 million bottles of sweat to keep the masses of sweaters happy. Without the hunters noticing!

Now take my idea with the iron sand: An ingot of iron is worth 39 PEC. So 39k units of Fox' Iron Sand. Even IF you refine that into ingots, I don't believe that it will have a bigger impact on the iron price than a 2k mining HoF has.

Of course has the value of an activity, that is for free, to be paid. But be realistic, how much it really is! With just one miss with your weapon you have paid how much bottles of sweat???

Main issue I have with sweating is that it's just not fun - at all. I feel like people wouldn't complain as much if it was at least somewhat fun to do every once in a while. It'd have to be more interactive or something. Standing in a huge sweating group like we used to on Calypso in Nea's or LD is about as lame as it gets, you can do it pretty much semi-afk. There is little to no interaction.

Would much rather have newbies do something that's enjoyable and maybe rewards actually playing instead of sitting in front of the computer like a brainless zombie :)
