Agreed...probably some sort of stipend is a bad idea.

I PM'd you about the ND Attack idea.

    Short run = advertising

Long run = revamp the mentorship program... maybe combine a mentorship program with the mission system for obtainable goals with the aid of an experienced player to help guide and instruct new players through the extremely difficult fist few weeks/months.

Really, there are no other ways to effectively draw in and retain new players.

Without at least one of the above two, I feel the Entropia population will dwindle into oblivion.

    Another proposal:

Until the end of VU 9.4 mi "home" was the auction-ship in Calypso N'easPlace. Now in Arkadia my avatar often "sleep" in an unnamed outpost at the south of the continent, which allows me to easy access my two favorite mobs: Owekos and Hadraadas.

I think the rookies need a place to call "home" in Arkadia. Small and cheap departments to buy or rent, easily accessible, distributed throughout the continent, easy to decorate and with the ability to have small storages.

Give the possibility to settle in one place is a way to retain the rookies who do not have this possibility on other planets. It is also an incentive to explore, to travel and visit many places in search of a "home".

A single restriction: who owns or rent one of these departments can not own or rent another property to avoid a few owners are left with all available.

    Hi,

Fully agree! "Pay as much as you like" would have been a much better claim.

I'm not comfortable with those dreaded mob levels, but what comes to mind is:

    Atrax!!!

Well, Atrax comes to my mind as soon as I hear the word "mob", anyways ... They should be "common available mobs", right? Why not sprinkle the vast empty areas with a few (a few!) young, cute, cuddly Atrax?

They aren't an invincible threat. They often loot well. Few enough, and it wouldn't be a nuisance, but a spicing things up for them miners. Mining can be sooo boring in the vast empty areas of Arkadia, if no threat at all exists - I could easily write a miner bot to do the job for me ...

But a nice, playful young Atrax every now and then? Wouldn't this be just marvelous?

I'd even volunteer to have been the one smuggling a pair of baby Atrax to Arkadia, hidden in my backpack, eating half of my back during the journey, that have then grown up, done what adolescent Atrax love to do with each other, and thus have spreaded ...

Imagine, cute, juicy, beautiful Atrax on Arkadia! I'd never leave this planet anymore. All Arkadia is lacking, in my POV, are Atrax. Especially Alpha's on a LA. And a few spawns of smaller ones?

Why should only Calypso have Atrax? They'd suit optimally. Beautiful planet, beautiful mob. A reminiscence from the past.

    Have a good time!

PS: I'd like to emphasize that not all of my posts are completely serious.

Hereby I solemnly declare that I never intended to propose a large scale attack to such a merited participant as ND, it was just a joke! His minions would make my life a hell! Anyways, a free gunner seat anywhere?

Another idea (maybe this has been thought of or done already)

Is it possible to put up advertising for EU Worlds in other games like EVE, Twinity, Smeet, Smallworlds, IMVU, Active Worlds, Onverse, Kaneva, Utherverse and Blue Mars ?

I'm just thinking that if we found players involved in those other worlds/games we could take a look at the in game advertizing systems (if they have them?) and possibly run some ads???

Now I'm also thinking that some if not ALL of these platforms would not appreciate this effort and might disallow it all together. On the other hand it would put funds into their economy's too.

    Thoughts?

i highly doubt that will be achieved,
however i do think this game can make ingame commercials about a lot of diffrent stuff.
think about gamer technology or even new soap for your bath. i dont care.. think of something,
add any commercials to this game. we players will only feel like it's more like a real world + the game can earn an extra buck on advertisement.

Put MindArk up for sale. Get rid of everyone. Say good bye to mediocrity. Let it be bought out by a non-Sweden based company. A real, for-profit organization that doesn't take the summer off. A company with innovative ideas, a strong marketing forecast and a mandate that focuses on real, sincere, customer service. Consult with the planet partners. Put a leash on ND, or gosh...I don't know, maybe let him loose. Find advertisers, send ambassadors out to local trade shows, have banner ads everywhere, make Entropia "noob-friendly".

Didn't even read all the post. Finish the product 1st then worry about new players. Why bring new players into a game that isn't finished! Yes we need some new to keep things flowing what I am talking about is the MASS MARKETING. Spend a lot of money advertising something not complete and expect them to stay? Many original MA functions still not back or completed properly and were getting new stuff.
Want to keep new players finish MENTORING SYSTEM, not an Arkadia issue MA's problem.

Agree with Wildman opening this planet before all things needed for economy to run has severly damaged
planets chances of its success. ( example visit next island no economy no players)
90 percent of all players that came to Arkadia go to Caylpso or quit.
If planet had all functions in place as crafting they would still be here.

I have not been around as long as some of you , so my view of things are little differant.
I don't have the experience in game that old school players have but its all based of math!
Been working hard to level want to make Arkadia my home but cost are bad, no one to buy
    loot from mining or hunting.
Hate to say it only place can get any gain is Caylpso , because economy is running there!

I maybe mistaken, but I think Wildman was referring to the pre-existing Entropia systems, not the Arkadia economy model. However, I do agree with you, Ken. Arkadia launched with both missing bp's and bp's that needed adjusting due to the unforeseen blindside from MA that was "Lootable Space".

Judging from the updates Arkadia has provided when MA was available to deploy them, I'm confident the basis for a strong economy will be sorted 3rd and 4th quarter 2011.

    Fingers crossed....

I might have been little unclear few differant topics in this post.

The Arkadian team are doing great job and like every idea they have for planet.
(but they are road-blocked by MA)

Just feel it would have been better not to open planet, until all items needed for economy where implemented.
( for reason look at other planets that opened still no fix)
Most all new player here went or are going to Caylpso.

Praying for alot next update myself.

I don't know, guys, the economy seems to run fine for me. I sell my hunting and mining loot all the time—often it's snapped up only hours after being listed on the AH... at least when I ask reasonable prices :)

If the higher level things are missing for now, then just do what you can do... craft things that can be crafted, hunt what can be hunted. Why do we have to have a full, complete set of BPs from the start? Don't we have enough BPs to make everything the noobs will need? If you care about the noobs, spend more time mentoring them on your own. It's not MA that makes the economy work—it's the players who buy and sell, and so far I've been able to buy and sell everything I need, and if not, import is easy enough from Calypso. At least we don't loot papoo eyeballs.

Neil , not sure what level you are but my example is cant even buy set of armour for
level 15 - 30 , none here auction bear. All hides and such have no use no mu value.
I have ran auction for full week at low mu on items no sell.
Now few inports have sold but thats all.

I,m sure few items sell like amps ,enhancers market on all planets for those.

Hope all changes on 9th , cant wait update!

I would think that the Planet that comes up with the best solution to integrate sweat into the economy will have the best new player retention rate.

Bamaken, my point was from the noobs' perspective, so I'm talking about selling noob loot.

I guess there are two groups we're looking at in this thread... keeping noobs and keeping experienced players. I don't know what the noob retention rate is, but I'm betting it's pretty low, just by the nature of entropia and the steep learning curve at the beginning if nothing else. From the advanced player's perspective, sure, Arkadia's economy doesn't compare to Calypso's. But as far as I can see, there's everything here a noob needs, except perhaps an easier market for sweat and a few mined resources. But there ARE people buying all these things, even the hides. Anyway, it sounds like we'll see some improvements to the bp issue in a week, which is good news.

For Arkadia to succeed in keeping its players, Ark needs not only a working economy and fun social groups, but it has to offer something good that Calypso doesn't. NI has one but not enough of the others (offers great landscapes & ancient greece, but no economy and few people). Nor is it enough merely to have a working economy... or even to be a carbon copy of Calypso. If Arkadia were just a little version of Calypso, what reason would people have to stay? They'd just go where they can have things easier. I fly passengers thru space, and by far the most common destination from Calypso is FOMA. Why? It's smaller than Arkadia, it has no economy, but it does offer something unique.

Now, I don't want Arkadia to be like FOMA, except in offering something unique to EU (and useful, and fun)! If you want noobs to stay more than a couple weeks, make it a well balanced planet where they feel like it's a complete home, low-level item trading is accessible, there are social events where they can make friends, and interesting stuff to explore. If you want other entropians to visit Arkadia, offer something unique (maybe the treasure hunting will do that). I've talked to a number of Calypsians who are eagerly awaiting The Update so they can return to hunt and mine again.

    Hi,

at first, even if it's off topic, it has to be said:
May I add that you're a great "taxi driver" and that you deliver an absolutely perfect service, as far as I can tell? May I add that, should I ever need to fly through space again, you would be the first one I'd PM? *1)

    Back to topic:
I hope for this. Eagerly awaiting the next few patches, the full implementation of the features and the Arkadian Advertisement campaign.

At the very moment I see Arkadia as a miners paradise, and judging from my results with different finders this should work for newbie miners too. I don't do much hunting these days, it's just too boring for me meanwhile, and the results are too bad, but from what I have seen we have a nice "mob ladder" and nicely distinguished spawns.

What I miss a bit are the elaborate mixed spawns that EU had before the CE2 implementation, but these seems to be history anyways. Atrax, Berycled and Sabakuma for instance, in adapted maturities, making choosing the approbate armor not this easy ;-)

For sure we suffer an under-developed economy these days, but this might change soon.

Arkadia has an awesomely well done landscape IMHO. This is, for me, one of the main reasons I moved here. It could be improved with another continent that would enable us to escape the friggin darkness that interrupts our gaming every other hour ...

The landscape, the mining, and, most prominent, the communication of the A-Team. Don't forget the Arkadian community!
Arkadia has yet quite some "stand alone" properties, IMHO. And I'm very sure more is to come.

And I have a lot of trust into the A-Team to make this even better. I'm a born "Cassandra" or "whiner", I always first see the potential problems and glitches, well, it's my job anyways - but few I have to complain about Arkadia, regarding that it's not finished yet and there are still great things to come.

I have enough trust into the A-Team that I completely erased my Calypso storage, and moved over, finally, with all & everything.

Please excuse the heart attack *1) you must have suffered when I told you what amount of stackables you carried, I didn't told you of because I wouldn't trust you, only to not make you nervous. And in case something had happened, you hadn't known of your load, so no need to feel guilty. It was crazy, I know - but it was my gamble. Not in vain my nick is "MadMaiden" ;-)))

    Have a good time! :)

    *1) For your information:

I booked 'Neil Greenleaf Stockton' for a journey to Calypso, and back. My intention was to get my missing armors and a few weapons, "no stackables" was agreed. We arrived Calypso w/o even seeing another ship.
So I decided to take the risk. I took anything left in storage, sold a bit to the TT, and then entered his ship to fly back. We arrived safely. When we was in Arkadian safety again, I told him that he might have transported quite a value in stackables. Didn't know for sure, told him of about 2K PED.

I admit that is wasn't correct from me. But I did it as the opportunity seemed valid, and I didn't told him about for not to make him nervous, and to prevent any reason to feel guilty when my gamble might have failed. Should we have been looted, he'd been innocent - and I'd be the moron.

I have calculated my inventory now and it seems that Neil has brought about 5K PED of stackables to Arkadia :)
All hail to this awesome pilot!

yes it would be but the main source of people MUST be new players and on a large scale as the current population of the Entropia Universe is not enough to support wholly 4 planets. The main idea here is to form ideas that the Dev team may find inspiring in order to get new people in and persuade them to stay and spend their money/ped here.

bringing more players in is easy
just sell another idiotic thing for a hilarious amount of money (last example CP)
and you get lots and lots of newbies who want to get rich and who last around 1-3 days

its more the problem of getting the "right" newbies in who actually stay

i agree with Xandra in most points (as usual :p)

the peds stuck in items became more and more hilarious
take my embra for instance, it cant be used at 50% anymore and thats 1480 ped or so permanently stuck for an unusable sword, unless you repair it
148$ (!) for -one- unL newbie weapon (dps sucks, cant kill much)
as to the markup, i bought it first for +3000 i think, now its basically worth tt
granted, its a sword, so the tt is a bit problematic, but i wont get into the sword topic again

there is a limit to what a newbie can and will endure
tell him to get 50 ped of probes and go mining, 5$ deposit, gear say another 5$ for now
    doable
but going on with amps (over 100 ped) will likely bring him to his limit soon
and mining is, compared, even fairly cheap in equipment
not like you need lots of armors and different finishers etc.
as mentioned as well, add the stacks you need to build up til you can finally sell them takes quite some money too
so yes, making auctioning cheaper would be an idea

and Ion, i totally understand your point, about shop owners having problems to maintain the shop since most people go to auction anyway and i agree, i do that too
when i ran through the calypso malls searching for decent items at decent prices, i usually wasted over 1 hour just to find a cheaper one at auction anyway
lowering prices for auction even more would possibly make that even cheaper
but considering how many people sell at auction (most) compared to people who sell at shops (few) and actually -sell items on a regular basis- (even less)
i think it would benefit more ppl

dare i say the word, the normal people
who cant afford a shop, hangar, mothership, mall, whatever

which is the point i wanted to make
the focus was and is always on the big spender
the people who buy malls, motherships land areas (medusa :p) and so on
problem is, i think thats a bad choice
you get some money your way indeed, but those people rarely buy it to give money away, they want a return
thus in the long run, you end up paying more than you got
    an example would be clubneverdie/FOMA
i simply doubt ND in that case spent all the tax money ingame
other example would be the mall neo owned
from what i heard he made the money for the mall back already with selling the shops
now i hardly doubt again, this money stayed ingame
instead it was prolly taken out right away again plus draining the ingame money from taxes

so if you are looking at the flow -out- of the game too, you can probably get an idea why loots get lower too
so not focussing on that may even help to get a better average loot return

lately, especially during the guide and adviser stuff i did (mostly calypso based so far tho)
the majority of newbies who came recently had 3 main characteristics:
    -more impatient
-less willing to learn and get into stuff
    -way more trigger happy

without trying to make anything bad, but i tend to call it the WoW generation
you get your shorts, you get your axe and 2 hours later you got shitloads of gold (exagerrated)
EU is way slower paced and often needs way more work done to get an idea of things
you wont be able to get those newbies likely, they have a different mindset and a different thing they look for (they want it now and without problems)

    how to get those people?
low tt stuff, more "action based" areas
no idea, create some dungeons, weapons cost tops 2 ped, scale the HP of mobs accordingly
and at the end, drop funky stuff (clothes or something, dunno)
prolly wont make them rich, but might catch the casual gamer
who may, big may, become a more big spender going for other stuff

yes, it is pretty much like an instance of how you call it, but thats the idea (think of it similar to a beacon, just lower cost with scaled down loot)

how to get people who want to invest 100-300$ just to get stuff and can lose 100$ in a weekend and keep doing so, no idea, sorry
