I think that we should start a boycott on this player bound item trend. I will not continue to work on any missions that give player bound items, especially the ones that you pay to get like the viceroy and smuggler cloths. How greedy is it to charge 700ped in items for a 400ped armor, a 300ped fee to get a armor that you can only tt. So you can not recoup the loss of the 300 ped fee or the mu on the items to get the armor? Please join this boycott if you want to stop MA and PP from creating endless money pit items.

If you don't want the item's then don't get them. It's not that complicated.

Well I'm already on that for almost an year, in part is like OP said, boycott those itens (althou I already have a viceroy but was last thing I purchased like this), other is like kikki said, is very simple to simply ignore those itens as I'm doing with the oratan payback baddly designed mission.

There is very good reason why is bound on item/s, its in direct correlation with in game economy and real cash economy. I will not explain why, I am sure you will figure it out.

maybe you should focus your energy on something more creative like http://tiny.cc/ArkEvent and http://tiny.cc/october-event :)

Well I could sit quietly and ignore the items in what seems like a trend and accept the reasons why its ok. But I am going to say this. If you are ok with the items being player bound there is no reason to post here. If you support the boycott post here please and give your opinion on the matter. If you really feel the need to explain why these items are great and should be bought start a new thread I will read it and wont go bashing your opinion. Not saying anyone was bashing my opinion

Soul Boundedness has been discussed to death already. You are free to post your view of course just as I am free to comment on it to whatever extent I feel suits me.

Shouting boycott may not work, but arguing against something, and giving valid arguments - like players have done in the update thread - has given me things to think about, even in regards to Viceroy. So in a way I will boycott smuggler clothes and Viceroy due to the arguments against them. It's against my nature to put a lot of money into something without a chance of getting it back.

It is a choice after all , u can buy them or you dont , if the smuggler clothes turn out to be useful like granting you acces to smt special i agree it shows your dedication to the cause , but all those starter items should be able to be tted , i have quite a few of those not to mention around of 200 ped of rings ...

All this has been explained numerous times before, granted it gets buried under all the chatter and is cumbersome to find. But I posit most can't be bothered to go searching for any rationale before spilling their heart. I may have failed there occasionally, too.

Compare it with an L item you pay, say, 150% for. Once it is gone and you continue to need it, you have to buy another one usually around the same price. And so on and on and on. Buy a repairable thing like Viceroy for a 150% markup on its TT value and use it until you have spent its TT value again in repairs, you have paid only 100% on the second round. So you are at 125% total markup. The longer you use it, the closer your total cost nears 100% (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asymptote).

Do the same calculation for any unlimited item you bought from another player for TT+x, (TT+x)/TT being your markup for comparison. How long do you have to use it until it becomes actually economical? The figures on Entropedia e.g. for unlimited weapon eco are all based on 100%, which is never reached (or reached in infinity, in mathematical terms). There is a break-even point with any markup above zero before infinity, which is the decisive bit you want to find.

On returnability: For your Viceroy you get 100% back, no less and no more. You lose the initial 50% markup. A tradeable item you can sell again and hopefully recoup your initial investment. In that case you lose nothing. Really? Think again. The markup you paid for it was stuck in your item for as long as you held it. You could have invested it somewhere else, where it could have earned an interest rate, be it AUD's, CLD's, or any investment instrument outside. This interest not earned is called opportunity cost in economics, and this is what you have to set against an alternative you want to compare it with. Both ways you have paid for your enjoyment while you held it. But only in the first case this money actually put food on someone's table.

Now find how many unlimited items are available at 150% of their basic TT value (maybe a Jester D-1) and re-examine your interpretation of "greed". Why does nobody call it greedy that markup exists on limited items? People even argue for all kinds of measures to increase it to support the suppliers. Then why is it greedy that some developers want to ensure new copies of their items are bought directly for continued revenue rather than leave it floating on the market forever where they get no cut of any trades? Or why is it greedy that they want you to come to their planet to get it? Now comes the next one again who throws in "but if you want everything to be this way, then..." Cheesus. Some things only work because they are different from the mass. My decision is case-by-case based on whether I find the deal better than the alternatives for me. If it doesn't check out for you, you don't deal. Which is the basis of any business at all, that both sides have an advantage. If this is seen as morally questionable, how would anything in nature work without it? Begin long before Adam and Eve, by understanding symbiosis among the most primitive lifeforms. Or read a good book, e.g. Economics in One Lesson by Henry Hazlitt.

I totally agree on the non-returnable stuff you can't avoid in all these packages, though. However, boycott is an individual decision and you can't expect everyone to follow. I boycott businesses for this or that reason all the time and wish everybody did the same so the insult would vanish from my eyesight in due course. But the next day they are still there. Just like gravity, aging, taxes, and plenty of obnoxious people. If life throws you lemons, make lemon juice. If they throw you kittens... well in Entropia you know what to do ;) On another note: Why did I spend my coffee break writing this? There is another one born every minute.

Yes individual boycotts don't work that's why you make the number of people engaged in the boycott public. And instead of using this post to make you stance on the boycott you are filling it with pointless info. Lets add some more pointless info like MA and PP each get a slice of depo fee and every action that you do in game that decreases the tt value of a item. is it relevant to support the boycott nope just junk wasting time and space.
So again if you are just wasting space please don't bother I heard the arguments before and don't care.

honestly, 30 bucks for viceroy armor is nothing compared to what a similar armor has cost in the past. i really know about a shitload of problems, that are more damaging to the game than player bound items, or items for cash.

also i don't understand how anyone can have a problem, when mindark/pp look for different ways, to get support (cash) from their customers (us), besides through ingame actions. in the very end this is also for your benefit, because the bills need to be paid and noone works for free!

i play this game for nearly a decade, so i appreciate all the new possibilities for us players like strongboxes, upgrade missions, clothes and more. also i got my viceroy suite EXACTLY for the reason that i will never be able to sell it again, and even that changed over time.

so, i suggest to stop bitching about player bound items, because even if YOU don't like it, there may be people who do. and noone forces anyone to buy anything!

    thx! :biggrin2:

Well, I guess I was wrong. And sorry to say the boycott will not work to well since I guess the game is shifting away from RCE -- and I guess over all it is the best for the game's good. From these last few months MA has found that User Bound items are a very good thing for them and even more they are starting to make more and more money as they do move away from the RCE theme -- which is a VERY good thing. So at the end there is no way MA will go back but instead move more into a non-RCE based game simply because it makes them more money and all around the player base is happier -- if they use that new found money to FIX THE BUGS! :stats:

Although I don't really like the Bound Items, I think that:
    1. In some exceptional cases they are a good fit.
    2. It seems premature to me to start taking serious actions (i.e. boycotting) now. It's too early to make speculations where the game goes and what are MA's long term intentions.
    3. As long as there is choice, I don't have a problem with anything.

That being said, paying customers should always have a say and be listened to... no matter if we agree or not.

Is my fault, 2 years ago I left an MMO managed by Game Forte (Lameforge as I call), saying I'll never play any title under this company, due the shit they were doing to that game, and I believe i revenge they bought MA, because same thing is going on again.

Ok last post on the subject...really..:)

Yes it is way to early to tell since this has just started a few VUs ago which remember VUs do not come that often -- so some would say slow or some could say fast based on the VU release times.

Also everything in this game cost money -- even for the PPs. So my guess here is that the User Bound items MA is offering the PP has a really good value to them costing little to nothing (ok a really good discounted item) so yes some PP will go for MA's new system simply due to the fact it will cost them less. Now what this will do to the game? Not sure. But one thing is for sure MA is moving away from RCE.

P.S. and yes when I say User Bound I mean both the new items that are coming out and the old items that MA are making User Bound.

If I were you I'd be more upset that they are taking items that are not bound and making them bound items. They just did that to the opallo and a few other items have paid MU for them and now they cant resell them. I know its a low tt value item, but who is to say that now that they have done so for them, no one bitched, hey lets do it for Vigi or some other items say a M83.

Every player has the choice to get or ignore the player bound stuff, can't see an issue really to be honest.

I do get a bit confused though about what is player bound and what isn't, ie galactic mission chips unbound, viceroy armour bound, upgraded emk's unbound.... i could go on. Just seems kinda random from an outside perspective as to why some are and not bound, after all argument to bring in bound stuff was so not to affect markets; and some are clearly doing so.

No biggy to me though, just can't understand why some are bound and others not.

If you want to play economy, trading etc. - stick your ass to an auctioneer and don't move from there and let bound items to players who wish to play with them and not to trade with them.
Well i would not mind to have Ned's prototype fap, it could be bound thousand times on my ava lol.

I'm sure you'll LOVE it when you log in tomorrow and get a nice message: "It brings us great pleasure to inform you that your ModFap is now bound to your avatar and you can only sell it to the Trade Terminal for it's TT price. As we don't care about Markup... we're sorry for the inconvenience. With love, MA."
