Question about §4, Images Hi, the rule says: I'm not sure how to interpret this. For example, recently I posted in the testing forum, here and here. It is about spreadsheet data, and because .csv isn't available in both gallery nor attachments I used dropdox. For the .csv as well as the preview .png. Question now, how to understand this §4: [ ] You are not allowed to link outside (to pics on other forums, to files at filehosters etc.). or: [ ] You just should use the gallery / attachment whenever possible. If you chose not to do, do it at your own risk. My interpretation would have been to use the gallery/ attachments whenever something useful for Arkadia is linked, and dropbox (or other sources) for cases when it's more temporary data, or, if it is data that is stored already (publicly available) on other forums. To save storage space and bandwidth. I'd love to hear your opinion about this! Have a good time, and happy holidays!
Hi Xandra Good question. Allow me to address a few points. In this thread, Forum Features, Limitations, Bits and Bobs, we mention this: This is a common courtesy we extend to other sites that we hope will be paid forward, that other sites do not hotlink to arkadiaforum hosted files. However, if you are the owner or are responsible for paying any excess bandwidth charges or if your hosting site allows you to link to the images, then you may link directly to that image. Another reason we prefer to have images hosted locally is that a file deleted on an external site it then any threads here that have referenced/linked to that image look horrid and can be frustrating for other users who want to see an image, instead of a broken image icon. Again, if you're responsible for the content of the host site and you're reasonably sure it isn't going to be deleted anytime soon, then go right ahead and link to it. I guess to summarize, we're trying to: Be fair to other sites so we don't chew up their bandwidth (do unto others etc...) Maintain a clean forum where images and links are always working. I hope this helps
