Having night and day on a planet increases the realism and game immersion. Have you tried hunting at night here on earth? Pretty hard to hit anything. Luckily there is a simple solution as you seem to want "easier". In your Action Library there is a: Select Next Target icon that can be keymapped or dragged onto your screen. Once added, simply click (or punch the key) and you will be locked onto the nearest available target.
Select next target is not a valid solution, it cant even be arsed to only target things in front of you.
I'm not sure I understand "can't even be arsed", but Select Next Target will target the closest mob as long as they are not behind something. In the dark, or the light, in the day, and in the night. I use it all the time....
They don't have to be in front of you, and they don't even have to be in range either. Combine it with Auto Fire and even if you are using a melee weapon, you will run right at them.
Thats the problem, if a mob is behind you how do you know what you are targeting? If you need to hunt a particular maturity or a mob in a mix you are screwed.
If hunting at night I just use select next target - no need to be able to see them But I spend most of my time when on planet mining and its a real pain trying to mine at night in a forested area because I can't see a thing and keep running into trees and other obstacles or falling off cliffs. So if its night, I go and mine in the desert or arctic where the light levels are OK
Use select next target and and don't use auto fire. Then you can identify the target before you fire.
Next next, oh, behind me, gotta turn cam, next, oh, behind me again, gotta turn cam. I also enjoy video games where you can actually... see video? Other games have had nights that are too dark, and they fixed it next patch, dark nights in Entropia have gone on too long.
You are very right here, but not sure when but some VUs ago they changed the next target selection around and now using it is kind not worth it since it randomly select anything and no longer select the closest mob to you. But yes to get around this you just need to remember to click the ground next to you before using it...but still.
Update: As I sit and wait to hunt in the day time (very high graphics mode) I came up with this great idea for the A-Team!! When Arkadia nights start, turn off all your lights and work in the dark until Arkadaia mornings. You may get the idea that yes it's great to have it dark here, but well..darkness = less ped spent.
Two years later and Cyrene have improved their night and day settings (haven't checked it out personally but so they say), while Arkadia hasn't done anything at all, and certain areas at certain times remain literally unplayable. If you need an example, Oratan Prospectors at Cobra Digsite.
