I saw this banner ad while checking a video of a different game, and I'm not sure how I feel about it other than being somewhat negative towards it. Is it aimed towards guys implying there's "hot chicks" in game? Is it aimed towards gals implying cool chicks play the game (too)? Knowing the game and what it's about I feel this is not a representative ad. If I didn't know the game I certainly wouldn't click it to investigate what kind of game EU is because, to me, it seems to aim towards triggering physical "happy reactions" rather than exploring/hunting/mining and such. It did make me react though, so I guess it had some sort of impact. Thoughts?!
I think the banner is very good, advertising itself is a profession.. and i see plenty of adds for games using hentai or pretty women to gain extra clicks. I will let you decide for yourself which banner get more clicks
That looks like something that Neverdie would do. The message on game loader on RT clearly states "For Mature Audiences"
I stumbled upon this post on PCF just now. I guess this answers the "hot chicks" comment from @Spawn. So I guess we can just skip this thread since it's being "discussed" on the side of why EU is the way it is. IMO, it's a poor campaign and will draw in all the wrong types of gamers.
As I've gotten older (slightly into my 40's now and approaching 10years in EU) I've found that this sort of ad would probably turn me away as it has a similar styling to a scamming ad or very low quality game. In general I've come to the conclusion that the sexier the ad the worse the game content actually is. Besides, I don't think MA have any clue what sort of gamer they're trying to attract except one that will spend lots of money. Ad's that do work are usually under stated and include wit and intelligence to hook you in - atm there are a series of ad for a mobile / tablet game on TV that are just a well known actor talking about the game yet it works infinitely better than this. (desperately trying not to get this edited for mentioning another game but I'm obviously talking about the Clash of Clans ad's). The only other time I've seen something similar was on TV. In the UK ITV tried to market 'Supernatural' to women by implying two sexy guys hunting monsters with a montage of clips.
I think the "drawing power" of advertisements in general is vastly overestimated. All they can do is create awareness of a brand name. To actually trigger a purchase an ad is not enough (if it is for someone, they should seriously examine their financial habits). Poor taste or not, who has the right to determine that for anyone other than oneself? Live and let live. This world will be a better one when we throw political correctness out and in the garbage where it belongs.
Ahh but the one on pcf shows cleavage.. It also doesnt say mature, but Hardcore. I understand better now.
