I moved to Arkadia from Calypso a while back and went on a one to two year hiatus. I'm back playing regularly now and I was wondering what armor I should buy? I'm still considered a newbie, and my mentor hasn't exactly been around since I first met him. (Simply told me to hunt carabok then headed off to another planet, and I've never spoken to him since.)

I know you get an armor set when you finish the mentorship, but mentorship aside, what would you recommend? Is the TT set any good?

The starter pack armour set is pretty decent as starter armour, plus there's the bonus of increased run speed when the full set (only for the gold pack) is equipped as well.

    Welcome to Ark. :)
I agree with Lightz but armor can kinda depend on what your hunting.
And there is a great list to help with that. (Thanks to Lizzy ;).)

And for puny mobs, no armor can be more desirable for many reasons.

Anyways there's a link to Ark mob stats/info in another thread at:

Hope you join us ingame chats /join #arkadia and for buying/selling #arktrade

Imo the best mentors are chatting and asking how your doing, answering any questions, etc. etc.
So I'm curious how long was it since the last time you chatted/messaged with mentor???
Are you both in the same timezone? (Or are they online when you are a lot/little/never?)
And if you don't mind me asking how far along (%) is your discipleship?

Thanks for the replies, guys! And that list is an awesome reference, I'll check it out now!

Just another question: is the Musca set any good or should I save my PED?

To answer your question on my mentor, they haven't replied to the PM I sent them a few days ago, and they haven't really told me much else than what I told you in my first post. Also, it seems like I'm the first person they have mentored? Or at least, they haven't gotten a rating or graduated anyone yet.

As for how far along I am, I'm going to go with "not far at all".

The best beginner armor is no armor.

Sure, armor lets you hunt bigger mobs, but doing so before acquiring at least some defensive skills easily leaves you with a huge repair bill.

In that case, perhaps you might be interested in looking for another mentor instead? There are a lot of friendly and experienced players based here on Arkadia. In fact, if you ask on #arkadia chat, I'm sure you'd get a bunch of replies from players willing to take you as a disciple. :)

Looking back, I wish I would have gotten this advice when it came to hunting: Get a mentor, hunt punies with no armor and TT weapons. Once your mentorship is finished, the armor you get will be more than sufficient for the near future.

I probably did receive that advice from my mentor but just didn't listen.

hmm I had a very different mentoring experience, where questions were answered (sometimes twice :p) and was given excellent guidance.
Good mentors will give advice from their experiences playing EU. (re: the replies above. ;))

Just adding to what Lightz wrote, some mentors advertise their availability on another thread too
    http://arkadiaforum.com/categories/mentoring-services.131/

But I'd advise chatting with & getting to know several potential mentors for maybe approximately a week.
Also chatting with other players on your friends list can help in the mentor hunt.
Hopefully you'll find one with similar interests, and is online around same time as you.

Thank you for the advice and tips, guys! I found an AWESOME mentor that fits me very well, and I kicked my old one. My new mentor is informative, mature and helpful, and definitely what I've been looking for. I will also be holding off on buying armor for now as well.

Thank you everyone for the help!

Glad to hear you found a mentor that, well, mentor.
Good luck in your adventures. See you out there.
