Back in 2008 i was a mentor. Back then there were a lot of scammers.
Disciples would sign on, get what they could out of mentors and then abandon them, taking their new gifts with them.
I quit mentoring because of the scope of this at the time.

I am getting back into mentoring now, but it seems it is still going on.

Now i am wiser, new disciples only get a rubio until i am sure of them, although some still run with this lol.

This is a warning to other mentors new and old to beware of this scam.

I would like to start a list of known scammers, but i am not sure if I am allowed to name and shame on the forums?
If a forum mod could clarify this?

I don't think i'd call it a scam, you're giving them stuff so they can do what they want with it once it's theirs. Mentors are there to give knowledge not peds, simply don't give them anything.

Ok point taken, but even so it still happens.

Mentors will always give disciples free stuff to help them learn more of the game and progress.
It's not much fun spending your first few weeks just sweating.

People do take advantage of this, whether it's a scam or not it happens.

I would like to make a list of the people that take advantage of the mentoring system in this way so all mentors know who not to be generous with.

Am i allowed to name these people on the forum?

I wouldn't like to see a list, and I doubt the forum will allow it. A poor mentor can give a small gift then brand the disciple a scammer if they leave him.

There's missions to get small noob weapons and ammo so players can get an idea of how the system works. With the low cost noob mining and weapons you don't need to do a lot of sweating to play the game. There's really no need to give peds to new players with the system as it is now.

Yeah the new rookie stuff is great, wish it was in game back when i started., but it doesn't really last that long.

I still like to help my disciples though and a lot of the other mentors i know feel the same.

Just wanted to put this post out there as a warning to other mentors that this practice is still going on and to be careful.

I can see your reasons why a list wouldn't be such a good idea. I will keep the list of known offenders in our private soc forums only.

    Thanks for the input.

If you're ever in question of something, please refer to the forum rules. There is no naming or shaming on this forum, for reasons like what Slither has mentioned.

    I never give disciples stuff.
Most ill do is lend them gun/ammo for single team hunts with me. But thats only after I know them and thy understand I get it back after the hunt.

This isnt a socialist game and I beleive training disciples with that mindset is not doing them any favors.

ye i dont understand why should u give anything to disciple except ur knowledge.. and yes ive lost disciples because some other mentors have offered some free stuff to them.. and then they keep on asking help from u because their new mentor havent logged in since then which is kinda funny

I denied a Disciple request yesterday, because i know that i suck as mentor.

First PM was like: "I want you to be my mentor, because i like your wings"
Second wa smore like: "Come to Sanctuary Cove, here is a mob i can't kill, can you kill it for me?" (It was Kadra)
Third PM after explaining some stuff: "Can you buy me a weapon and ammo so i can kill it"

Now i answered, that i don't give free stuff to anyone i don't know and even more not to one i know for 5 minutes begging for it.

The answer was a simple "lol" and a kick from friend and mentor list.

So yeah - don't give stuff to anyone unless you can afford a loss.

I acctualy do the same thing as above :p. Most often I ask ppl to find another mentor then add them to FL and act as a mentor for them anyways. I mean finding friends in here is nr 1 prio to succes basicly and helping out newbs are fun. So best thing for the newb usualy is to have me on there FL and at the same time get another mentor. That way they get to have 2 mentors instead of 1 sorta style :p

Also ...usually "mentors" ..should be old time / long time players anyway ..and i think they are well aware what can happen ...and they decide for themself to give stuff ...or even not ...most important thing is knowledge anyway ...my 2pec

Funny thing is, this kadra person was my disciple, i thought. After this was brought to my attention, I noticed they had removed me as a mentor. Advice is always free for my disciples, but everything else must be earned unless I have it to lose. Then I may just gove it to a random noob as much as a disciple.

I feel the same as many others on this post. I earned what I got through sweating and by giving people what they want. I expect my disciples, and any other player, to learn the game the same way I did. Time in. I am removing this av from our society and will speak to him before removing from my FL.

Thank you all for your input.
