I frankly don't want to keep shelling out money for things that I need. What are the subscription options? Is there only one option to pay for PED and use them as needed? Can I survive in this game without paying for PED? Assuming that purchasing PEDs are almost necessary, how much is the average player buying each money and thus spending in real US dollars on the average? I am trying to figure out a budget for the game.

There isn't really a subscription system. You can deposit at any time to buy any amount of peds you want. Or you can choose not to deposit at all. You set your own budget from 0 to far far too much, depending on what you want to do.

If you don't want to deposit, you can collect vibrant sweat to sell or stones and fruit. You can perform services for other people. Here on Arkadia, one player employs new players to mine for him, supplying equipment and sharing the profit. But it can be tough and boring to play without depositing. Sweating can be very tedious and it can take a long time to accumulate enough to sell for just a few peds.

If you decide to deposit then I believe, that initially at least, you can do just fine on the same amount you would be paying to a subscription game like WOW. Low level weapons don't cost much, decay much, use much ammo. Mining without amps is relatively cheap. You dont need armour to start with.
STAY AWAY FROM CRAFTING UNTIL LATER!!!!! - it will eat your peds.

However, you can still reasonably expect to lose money in the long term. Apart from random big loots that you cant depend on, free play or even profit comes from your interaction with other players, selling items for MU, offering a service that has value.

The danger is that you start hunting above your level, using equipment that you can't use efficiently. Then you will find you are burning thru peds very quickly. This is a temptation we all have to face and deal with (or succumb to). So set your budget and stick to it.

Strongly advise you get yourself a good mentor who can teach you how to avoid wasting money. There are also societies that are dedicated to helping new players so joining one of those can be beneficial.

The nice thing about this game is it has no subscriptions. You can put as much or as little into the game as you want and feel comfortable doing, you are not forced to ever put anything in the game, but your playing will probably a bit slower also.

Before you start to just dump money into the game regularly I would suggest figureing out the mechanics of the game. And asking a ton of questions so you can make smartest choices towards your goals based on whatever your deposits goals maybe. 10 USD could last days or minutes depending on how you use it.

I know players that deposit each month x amount and treat it as a subscription play that PED down to nothing and then come back the next month rinse and repeat. I know others that put some larger amount in play for months before doing so again. The thing to remember just because your PED card may not always have PED on it does not mean you don't have anything to show from a deposit, skills can be sold, you'll have a collection of gear that could be worth most of your depost, etc.... Big trick is how to balance everything you have with how much you intend to have as a balance on your PED card available to hunting, mining, crafting or whatever else.

I have known a few players that deposited and deposited felt they just kept loosing it all but really they had a ton of gear worth more then they had deposited and they felt broke and hated the game because of it. They eventually started selling out and realized this and then started playing again. So just advanced word of advise don't get discouraged that your deposits keep disappearing and your not getting anywhere, it may be that most of it is tied up in stuff your not normally using and is just in storage.

Obtain an empty skill implant (esi) and attach it to a chip implanter (can buy implanter from the TT)
Equip the implanter and use it. A dialog window will appear asking you which skill you want to extract and how much. You will end up with a skill implant containing those skills and you many also still have an esi of reduced TT value (see below).

You can't extract more skills than you have.
Skills have a TT value and the esi has a TT value also. Extracting x peds of skills using an esi with TT value y peds, then the esi final value will be y-x peds. So:
    - you cant extract more skills than the esi can hold based on TT value
    - if the final TT value of the esi is less than 10 ped, the resudual value will be converted to peds and
    - if the final TT value of the esi is more than 10 ped then you will still have the esi

10% of the TT value of the extracted skills is lost during the process.
