I know, I'm prolly gonna get a few readers very upset by what follows, but I think this subject needs some attention.

At least I hope some of the new players will read this post, even if it's a long one.

To deposit or not? That's the question every new player has to decide and the outcome will definately affect Your gameplay.
I'm only a few weeks old Arkadian, but decided I liked the game enough to spent some RL money on it.

New players usually may want to spent some time sweating, chatting and getting feel to the game first.
But if You should decide to deposit, I suggest You don't deposit just 10USD. Why not?

Since my main profession is mining, I use mining as an example.

New miners can start their profession either:

    - stretching every ped ingame, to make it last as long as possible, but If You get few NRF in a row, You need to do some sweating to make up the losses. Then You would need to sweat some more, to get a few extra peds for repairs and probes etc. Not easy, not fast and not that fun either.

    - or, You could deposit some USD. Usually, first is just a few xxUSD amount and that's easily spent on basic gear and few nrf on a row and You're done. Usually not enough to sustain Your ingame activities.

Why xxxx amount of peds for a noob? Well, You need peds to make peds. Same rules apply as in real life.

    My results:

    -------------------------------------------------------------

10 mining runs of 100 probes Double Drops each, ore+enmatter:

    NRF: 530
Claims: 470 of which 74 were Double Claims.

Total TT costs of probes and tools: 1541.13ped
Mining taxes paid on LA's: 28.72ped
Total TT value of resources found: 1522.38ped

    -------------------------------------------------------------

So nearly braking even on tt-value only, let alone when selling those resources with MU.

What if I had been a sweater, with just few peds to spare on my first mining run?

Let's see my first 5 double drops (ore+enmatter) run:

Run#1 West of Repulse FireBase Academy

    1. nrf
    2. nrf
    3. nrf
    4. 384m 3.50ped Ignisium
    5. nrf

    Revived

That's 7.50ped spent on probes alone, with 3.50ped TT return.
3.50ped tt Ignisium is not big enough stack to place on auc.
It's also quite a small quantity of ore to sell on the streets.

Some might say, why not mining for enmatter only? Peds last longer.
Then You should know already where to mine enmatters with good MU%, right?
That's not usually the case for a new player that has never mined before.

I would've been forced back to sweating to get more peds.
That might've taken quite some time. Then looking for a buyer etc.
Could've easily taken few days or a week before next mining run.
Fun? Not really. I have a job RL and don't need another one ingame.

I didn't post this to piss off anyone. Older players may yawn by now, for this was no news to them.
But there are also some new players reading this, who have asked the same question: To deposit or not?

I hope this made You think this question on both sides. If You make it as a non-depositer, that's an achievement on its own.
If You're thinking depositing and hesitate on how much You should deposit, then remember, You can withdraw peds from this game.
If You deposit just 10USD at the time, You're more likely to loose them. If You deposit xxxUSD it's usually enough to keep it going.

I also decided to stick with one profession only. That way Your ingame funds won't be spread all over Your storage on hunting/crafting/mining loots in too small stacks, that are not worth selling on auc and too troublesome finding a street buyer for each and every one of them.

Not a bad post at all.

But I do think that 10usd (or 96 ped depending on depo method) is enough to get your whistle wet on low level hunting an newb-finder level mining. I've talk to several folks over the years that tried subscription based entertainment and decided after the first week or two that they either liked what they were trying, or didn't.

However, 10USD is probably not going to satisfy the "grinder" or "hardcore achievement" group initially in their test drive. In which case, depositing 30-50usd might be more suitable to give their play style more room to test.

Especially if they use rookie finders that use 1/10 the number of probes. If you can find me in game, I always have a supply of them that I sell at TT price, or maybe slightly more if I'm running short :)

I chose to deposit about 3 days into playing. Best decision I ever made.

However a word of warning to new depositors:
It's really very important to set yourself a weekly or monthly limit and to stick to it. That could be 10 dollars, 50 dollars or more. You know how much you can afford. This game will suck in your cash if you let it. Adhoc, spur of the moment deposits are really dangerous to your real world financial situation. I spent around $200 total in the first 6 months and had a great time. Since then I have ramped up my spending considerably because of the level I am choosing to play at - but it was a conscious decision.

If you get low on peds, have a break, explore the world or at the very least drop down to TT level equipment. If you are regularly running out you are probably playing above your level, or at least above your budget.

It's possible to enjoy this game spending as little or as much money as you wish but if you don't budget you will probably spend more than you wish, ending up pissed off at the game and in possible strife in the real world. Don't let that happen to you.

If you play smart you can make your deposits last a long time. I depo $100+ at a time which sounds like a lot but not when you consider that I haven't deposited anything for 4 months now.... I am also not hunting at a low level either (opalo/pixie) I mostly grind mid/high level mobs trox, huon, ambu, allo, prot, scip, etc. It all comes down to how you play....

If you hunt over your level with very uneco and gear you are far from maxed on you will loose fast... very fast. At a low level with opalo+a101 I can probably make 200-300ped last for an entire year, I dont have the patience do this but I know it can be done. When I first started hunting I worked my way up to over 3k rifle skill just with my opalo+a101... and did a test of how long I could make a $20 depo last. In the end I used the same $20 for about 6months and cycled the peds many many times, the reason I stopped was because I wanted to up my gaming experience and work my way up the sib ladder.

The same can be said for mining, using unamped runs with a maxed finder (100+ drops per run) you can make $20-30 last a very long time. If you however get impatient and want to see swirleys all the time... you can go on amped runs but should be warned that you can burn through peds very quickly.

But no matter how much you decide do deposit never put in more then you can afford and do not expect to just go big and get lucky (been hunting full time for 3 years now and highest loot was 400ped something trox). If you play within your means, meet some great people & not stress too much you will not get burned out and have a good experience in EU.

Good luck and all hail Lootius;)

your pointing out one of the biggest mistakes newcomers make in this game,
which is going out for a run with too few peds to get the buffer full and generate a payout which will make your run go back to usually the 90% normal return.

I strongly suggest that new players read your first topic and ask themselfs if they are ready to start on their profession,
start depositting or how much they want to deposit to get along.
Just note that mining with 10 peds in probes, usually turns out as a loss run.
i wouldn't mine myself if i had less than 100peds in probes.

As a new player, one tend to have small initial deposit, this then causes your loot to become TT food so you can cycle your PED for the next round. However, by doing so also reduces your profit since nothing sold at TT will have a MU. The catch of waiting to have a MU is now you either have to sell to another players in person, or have enough supply to sell it at auctions. The first one is easier if you join a soc have a lot of friends that trades, and the 2nd will require a lot more deposit since you have now have an inventory of "ped" sitting in your storage.

I myself did the TT food method with my first 100-200 ped or so and it cycled a few times. ATM I am trying the MU path with auctions, so I am sitting around with some decent amount of PED in storage. So what these guys said about needing xxx instead of just xx applies if you want your PED to make more PED.

ideal to start gain some profit by MU , cycle about 1k or 2k ped i know much , below this your need sell to friends
    and avoid auction fee ,
In Hunt - most part item 101 120% markup
    In Mining - Depend much
In Craft - well fight against system , but idk much about craft and profitable option or not
    * If your dont have friend to buy , now yoru can sell to Moose better TT , i know he is trader and trader want make profit
**Only need know how to much profit guy want in each deal

I started as a non-despositor nearly seven years ago. Sweating till the sweatcap (for those who don't know, then you couldn't sweat anymore when you had "too many" skills") Taking oil from the oilrig (it wasn't guarded that much by evil creatures then, and nice Ubers for protection). After about four months (March 2005) I made my first desposit, 100 PEDs. Five months later the second, 200 PEDs. Then it went hard in the rollercoaster untill Noverber 2008 when I made my first 100 Euro desposit. I kept at that level for years, always despositing 100 Euro each month.
And in the end, I didn't like it. I was just waiting for the next month when I could desposit again. Do a big hunt, loose it all. Scale down to TT-level and getting bored. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.
Now I'm on Arkadia, trying the game again as a non-despositor (truth be told, I took 100 PEDs with me) and I love it so far.

And it's easier to make peds from mining if you keep meticulous records and mine only high MU resources. Doing that with hunting is impossible.
