We are getting an influx of new players which is great. I just want to warn them that asking people for peds will not win them any friends. We are playing with real money and begging really pisses people off. I understand you may be unable or unwilling to deposit, but it's not up to me to subsidise your play. Yes I just had someone come and ask for peds. Hence this post.
I hadn't thought of begging. I keep burning through all my PEDS by making bad choices and not keeping to the budget I set for myself....but I can make a profession out of begging with little to no investment on my part.....hmmm
Welcome to the new world. Sadly with the massive influx of players that have never researched what EU is about we will suffer many beggars, more scammers, and the worst of the WoW marketiers that think they get by simply under cutting everyone else or worse still don't get the concept of tt value and put items up for sale under tt. It is good that you have posted this to remind players coming to our world in a nice way and not just a flame thread.
It's getting actually worse than that. My ex-disciple asked me for 2 ped worth of ammo, and 1 hr later took me off as a mentor. If the person asking for peds has their nickname starting with a "K" then it's the same one. Pls don't feed the scammers :/.
I had someone ask me for 100 ped. He advised me that he figured out the secret to looting the mobs he kills and said he would return it with 1000 ped. I sure wish there was more pvp areas.. :soangry:
this is very sad to hear.... but as cyborh alrady sed, it will increase becouse 10% is still 10%.... but if 100 ppl come to planet and not 10 ppl then 10% means 10 ppl not 1 ppl just say no each time and i see problem solved
This is not a thread intended for bitching about ped beggers or scammers. I really just want to give a heads up to new players that it's not a smart way to go if you intend to hang around. It's a sure way to alienate experienced players and become ostracized.
Also, the warning goes both ways... don't give out free peds to someone who's begging you. They will say they just started, blah blah blah but they're almost certainly using the same story on many other players. There have been some well-known beggars on Arkadia making the rounds of the planets, and the reason they stay around more than a day is because people give in to them. It's stupid (for the scammer and the enabler) but people do it. If you feel the need to help out a beggar, make him work for ped. If they learn they've got to give something in exchange for ped, maybe they'll get the idea how the game (and real life) works.
I have tried to help some fellow new players out, but it's like feeding a stray dog....they will just continue to ask for more. I agree with Neil, players that don't have or want to deposit should be working for PED's. I may not exactly work hard for my money, but it's still my money!
Remember that the acronym PED can stand for more than one thing before you ask! Soooo, are you SURE you want that PED?
Couple of day ago at Celeste downtown.... X person:``Hello >>>>> uber >>>>>, wow your armor looks great and you are Grand arch master, must be awesome being uber`` Y person:```` X person:``Need just one more ped to buy my first gun, will return when i get the loot, please`` Y person:``Use the sweating machine, you will get free ped, just aim at the mob`` X person:``Give me ped now, or i shoot your uber ass!!!`` Y person:``Ok, here`s 10 ped, just chill, don`t threaten me, don`t shoot, please`` The lesson: Don`t let that happen to you, when someone begs for ped, give them ped, your life might be at stake Oh, wait, i got scammed, how can Y person threaten to shoot me when he/she needs one more ped to buy first gun...
Gimme 1 ped please, or i throw a lysterium ingot through your shop window Now that is a proper way of begging You guys and girls who fought hard to get where you are now, shop owners, high level crafters, hunters, miners, know how much ped and how long it took you to get there, so you respect actual work. Avatar begging and not working on at least sweating mobs is really not worth 1 pec, not to mention ped. Instead of begging to get one ped for nothing, better sweat for 2-3k sweat and haggle for good price. That is far better.
Actually, if you give them free peds, and then take the time to explain how they should cycle it and sell for MU to make profit.... then that's like giving a beggar a fishing rod, instead of giving a bear cub a free meal
