Hello Arkadians. I got myself a Rookie Terramaster and I wanted to test its potential. I went out with 600ped in probes, 2000 triple drops. I quickly changed my mind and lowered it to 150ped in probes making it a run of 500 triple drops. After 380 drops I gave up though as mining isn’t my thing, yet I am still going to post my results here. I started out with all mining skills on 1 point too. I used no amps, entered no taxed lands or PVP and used the TT excavator. The results were all from planet side mining only. All drops made were made 100m apart from each other, even though the finder got a 54m range so I could have increased it to 108m. The reason I did this was mostly out of ‘scientific’ curiosity. How are the returns? Any SOOTO as there were in the past? Are the skill gains any good? Result run in PED and TT values: TT Returns per resource: Claim sizes: Most claim sizes were size 1 and 2 as expected. The following claim sizes were from the unexpected variant; SOOTO: None, zero, zip, nada, nutting! Does that mean you can’t find SOOTO with the Rookie Terramaster? Probably, but I wouldn’t get my hopes up for it. Since I rather hunt than mine, I can also not determine how rare a SOOTO actually is, let alone on this finder. Skill gains: Completed Missions: Aarkan Stage 1 Verdict: It is totally worth it to go mining with the Rookie Terramaster if the globals continue to come as they did, and it not just a ‘welcome to the game’ fluke. The skill gains were not that great, but considering the costs and returns of this run it was fine. Despite seeing so much of Arkadia I did not even once found any fruit, stones or dung. Will I mine more? Probably, but no runs of this size anymore, takes too much time. And when it comes to the missions, I got about 6 points in most of them for stage 1 and it will take a long, long time to complete any of those missions with the finder if I don’t get the right globals.
Don’t follow my advice… …but at about 70 drops left of my 250 drop run, I started dropping bombs per 54m to get it over with quicker. Result, well, it seems I got about the same hitrate as dropping bombs per 100m. I got claims I should have gotten the bomb before according to mining knowledge, not keeping track if they were from the same kind of resource. Needs more testing! Returns in PED: Note: I lost one claim because it was on a server line. Minimal (I) Crude oil, so like 0,20ped tt. TT Returns per resource: Claim sizes: Most claim sizes were size 1 and 2 as expected. I only got one or two at size 3. No globals or anything. SOOTO: Nuttin’! I did find 48 Bukite though!
3rd run done, was baaad, hitrate was low. I lost 28,80 on the 75ped run. Will post results later after next run. In other news, I got small stacks of random treasure resources, I wonder if there was any interest in it from crafters. The bulk I have now I'm willing to let go for about 104%, it around 86ped tt and it will only grow the more I go out mining.
Run 3 and 4 As said, run 3 was bad. I was testing the 54m drop thing but that was just horrible in the long run. For run 4 I went back to the route I took where I got my first global and hit a XI Cumbriz and an XII Telfium. That resulted in TT profit after dropping only 50 of my 250 drops. Later on I even hit an IX Crude Oil too, and nearly at the end of the run a VI Part of Fossil Tooth, making this a very good run! Returns in PED: Claim sizes: SOOTO: I GOT MY FIRST SOOTO... but it wasn't that special. I got a Treasure Map 5.
I do my mining a bit different and try to cover the max area, I use Little Big Mining Log to keep track of the drops and the pattern resembles the below. hope it helps.
Thank you Dove. So far I have just used mining as an excuse to find teleporters I haven't found yet. Carpet bombing isn't on my list yet as I haven't recorded the area's with the good MU resources. I always have been a hunter, so my knowledge of mining on Arkadia is far behind that of hunting. However, if returns stay as they do I will certainly get more serious about mining with the shrapnel I collect. However, for anyone that sees this, Little Big Mining Log (LBML) is a great tool for those who are a bit more serious about mining than I am, you should check out their website for more information.
So, after 612ped of mining, a total of 2040 drops, I'm calling it. Partly because I messed up my stacks so I can't tell the exact results, and partly because I soon need the universal ammo to hunt Arkadian Hornets. In the end, I estimate my returns to be +184,44. 129,05%. This result is purely because of the two globals I got at the beginning that would make me bask in profits for a while. In some distant future I will certainly do some mining again, but then with something bigger than the Rookie Terramaster, as the size 1 and 2 drops are extremely tedious.
