I have a couple of questions about mining and upgrading mining tools.

Right now i'm just using the TT terraMaster 1 as my finder, that is maxed out and terraMaster 2 aswell.

But when is it a good practice to go over to a new model? First of all, haven't seen a single terraMaster 2 on the auction during the time I have played, craft more! ^^
Secondly, is it better practice to go over using amps instead of upgrading the tool itself?

Not saying I will do anything of this any time soon, but just some ppl with experience might have a good answer when the time is ripe.

    Cheers!

Amping allows you to have a bigger turnover. Your 'click' costs more and as a result your reward is higher too. But you must have a good knowledge about mining before doing that. You must know where to mine. What resources are you looking for? Otherwise it will only be a faster spending rate with nothing to show for it.

The mean difference with bigger finders is that you search deeper. That means you find different resources (that can have a higher markup). If you don't like limited finders, search for a Finder F-10x. Bigger finders also have a bigger decay. But the difference is not that great as when using Amplifiers.

Look here to see what Mining Tools there are available. Some of these might not be available much on Planet Arkadia though. Due to the resources needed to craft it, but I don't know about that.

I wouldn't call it reward, just that with bigger turnover you play a higher risk game you will still get 90% (tt value) average over a long term period using amps or not.
But ofc when using amps the low periods is usually worse too so you need to have the ped balance to play on that level.

About the finders, try other maxed or close to maxed finders and see if you "like" them if not go back to what you "like".
I personally love my F-104 finder and it's not deep at all, but when my other finders don't "work" for me that's the one I usually go back to lol

Thx for the answers! Yeah about the finders, the market on Arkadia is second to nill, NULL, nothing :p
I will stick to my TT stuff and continue writing down drop% on a piece of paper.

    Thx again :)

One thing perhaps worth considering is to fit depth enhancers to a finder that is tier 1 or above; this gives you lower depths, which may translate to more MU on your finds. The enhancers don't break all that often.

Is enhancers that good to use for low lvl finders? Need to read up on how much % difference there is in depth increase.
It's a science just to put down a probe in the ground ^^

    Hi,

had quite good skill improvements (and mining results) when using a finder that isn't just yet maxed, means whose search depth (for you) is a bit below the max. search depth of it, but already higher then the one of your previous finder.

And I nearly exclusively bought rather worn out (L) finders, they hold for quite long anyways, and are often obtainable quite cheap :) Buying a full TT (L) finder in the "learning phase" rarely makes sense, you'll be ready for the next one before you even have wasted 20% of it's value ...

Amps only make sense IMHO if you have identified an area containing stuff with good MU. Depth enhancer add a certain percentage to your search depth, 7.43% according to entropedia, so you can calculate yourself if it would make sense on a low depth finder. I'd not even think of using them below an average search depth of maybe 500m (finder info) minimum.

Hope I could help, have a good time!

I already did what you first said, with the finder not maxed out yet ^^

Yeah, still working on writing down everything to get an idea on where to mind to have a bigger chance of getting high MU drops. Takes a while tho, tons of fun anyway so not complaining ^^

Also note that minerals are usually server wide. So if you are hitting something like kaz in an area then you change over to another server that one might not have that particular resource. So its always good to keep a small log of what resources are found in certain areas incase you want to target a certain type or m/u of an ore/enmat. GL :)

Yeah I have been doing that for about a week now, works 90% of the time, kaz, veda, lyst and ospra seem to spawn wherever the F it wants to :p

on arkadia bigger depths will mean you find more erionite and iolite, which has a very low markup.

meaning deeper is NOT always better.

your chances of getting a 10k HOF are the same with a TT finder as it is with the most expensive finder in the game.

HAHAH awesome video! :D What I meant is that I have found different places where I mine where I know a certain ore will drop, and 90% was a bit hefty ^^

My two biggest Hofs on Arkadia...The first was with a 105 finder and the second was with a tik 320....both were high MU ores Ospra for the first and Veda on the second...In the whole game, I got my biggest ever hof/ ATH with a tik 120...When a HOF wants to come it will come to you..I suggest using a finder that is in your price range and skill range.
