Presently I am doing the Daily Orotan Prospector Mission ( actually every 20 hours)

I am finding that there is a steady drain of peds to purchase ammo & repair equipment - as I do not have a inexhaustible supply of peds, it puts me in the zone of counting out every one of them grudgingly.
So what do I do while waiting for the next Prospector mission to roll around?

    Choices are a bit stark
I can log one only for the mission.
I can sweat - there is only so much of that I can do before my brain starts rotting :(
I can harvest trees/explore/look for fruit - outside The Quarry & N of IFN Supply Depot, there are not that many, so its tramping over Ark for miles & miles - can be interesting to boring.

I thought I would look for Oil at the Rig.
I could not find anything on Oil here, so thought it may help if I put my experiences down, conventions, traps etc.

To get there, go to the Scrapyard TP - then wp the middle of the PvP zone & fly there. Believe me that is the most convenient. You can walk but not only are there are high level ill intentioned Orotans & big Triceratops type mobs - but also can be aggressive PvPers (rare but sudden death).

Set your Graphics to low (be careful- you may not be able to change them back, there is a bug that I don't know iof has been fixed yet. Change the Graphics "Draw Distance" to as high as it will go (enables oil & cuttable trees to be seen at max dist, but not fruits). Crank up the volume (will explaine later)

Fly there & there is the Rig, you cannot miss the monsterous structure. Before you land, fly over the top of it & check because sometimes barrels of oil spawn there - land & grab them, its a gift.

Around the rig are Orotans L6 up they are generally not overly aggressive. They pick on you, spawn a flyer, hop in & move.

One time I got there - there was nobody else, I ran around & picked up 5 barrels (they contain approx. 40l oil). But that was a very rare occurrence - usually there are other players there - a little community in fact.

You need to take care - biggest threat/problem is not the obvious one.

_ I have to go 2 work - so will continue later, and I don't want to create a boring text wall :(

Back: Why am I posting this! - I see players arrive who have never been at the Rig before & have no idea about where the oil is & what to expect.
    This may help them :)
One thing - open Action Library, go to item "Pick Up Item" go to edit & drag that button on to the desktop - I have mine in middle, sort of low, appearing roughly below my avatar if viewed 3rd person. If you see an oil barrel, click on it as you run towards it, click on button & it will automatically pick up oil (but only if you are not equipped with anything ie weapon.)
    -------------
As I mentioned you will see avs running around the rig, standing on rocks, or just chilling. A lot of them are players who regularly hang out there and look at it from their point of view, supply of oil is not that great - the more people who share in it - maybe the less everybody gets.

So, don't ask noob questions - like "where is the oil" just courteously give a greeting. Pleasant & friendly is the way to go :)
My opinion, don't wear armour & carry a weapon - esp top of range wanker armour & plasma rifle - like pvp arseholes carry. I used to appear in my inoffensive yellow colonist jump suit :)

You will see players carrying a large type of flaming axe - holding this gives an increase in acceleration. If you have a ring that gives acceleration, wear it for you will need it.

The oil usually appears in an area between the large cactus type plants - however can appear anywhere. The rig will spout oil from time to time - you hear a "whump" and if you are lucky enough to face the right way, you will see a puff of dust where it lands - sprint towards it afap - like everybody else does. If you are lucky you will get there first & grab the oil.
Now, check who you beat there - and if you just beat another, graciously offer them 1/2 (just drop it on the ground near them).
Some players are fantastic - they will happily share & give advice, others wont - just like any group.
If somebody offers you oils - naturally you graciously thank them. In the end it all comes down to cooperation.

There are some high level players there - ubers maybe who are doing other stuff, socialising etc - be nice to them, don't piss them off for they can be helpful & protective - they sort out pvp wankers when they appear.
This category can shoot people, because they are bored & don't like to pick on people their own level - or they can just intimidate- lets "share" the oil and if YOU don't share with THEM you get shot. That's where a guardian uber comes in very handy :)

Of course me being me, I said something like "rack off you total loser" and got shot for my trouble - when a more sensible approach would have beem "why sure master" and either gutlessly gave up half your oil - or just did not tell the pvper you found any.

Anyway - that's my take on things :)
