New thread being maintained by May, can be found here:
    Ostelok

    *****

    Description:

The Ostelok is a ground dwelling bird species that lives in large groups. Whilst not overtly aggressive, they can be dangerous when provoked.

Little is known about its diet; however it seems willing to eat anything.
Its heavy beak combined with extremely strong neck muscles makes its downward thrusting strikes especially dangerous.

The Osteloks' long powerful legs give it the ability to run for hours on end without tiring.

    Creature Type:
    Animal

    Damage Type:
    Impact 50%
    Stab 50%

    Statistical data:

Add that to Entropedia or wiki's please, as loots will be much better managed there

Jenny does a lot of updating on Entropedia I believe, of course we can all help by adding info on all of them if there are open areas :) We have an official Bestiary behind the scenes, including the pictures, but hard working Jenny beat us to the punch in getting it published, so when we are ready it will link to these threads Jenny has done in the Creatures section of the forum as the community discussion threads. Well done Jenny :)

Got bored with grinding so thought I would make a start with determining damage types.

Using Settler and BodyGuard it appears that Ostelok do Impact and Stab. They do not do any of:
    Cut
    Penetration
    Burn

Can provide more detail on the tests if required.

I'm reluctant to put this data into the wiki's as I dont know the relative % of each dam type and I havent worked out how I can determine that.

Will contact you in game Kikki for some info, but good job so far

I will start to test out the damage % on several mobs shortly, so good to have another tester to verify and help :)

Was thinking more on this. If I try pixie against a young, should be a good chance of getting the % worked out. Will review after I have got some sleep.

Have completed testing with pixie against youngs to confirm 50% of damage is Impact
That leaves the other 50% for stab unless I have missed a damage type.

Pixie test shows 50% impact. You could argue that as stated in my first post, there are some types not tested for (acid, cold, elec, shrap). So some chance they share the other 50% with stab.

Yeah, could use further tests to rule out acid, cold and electric (I wouldn't worry about Shrapnel, it's notoriously difficult to test and no mob has ever been shown to do Shrapnel). Also Impact+Burn with no Stab is still a possibility, so a 6a test would be good to check that.

Yes could be doing burn instead of stab. Will followup with the plates test. Once that is done I will see what I have for the other damage types.

Am I using too much common sense when checking for damage types from a bird with a stabby beak? (not really seeing how ostelok is going to generate burn damage).

So I did some followup tests with:
    . Pixie 6a - no burn
    . Bodyguard 6b - no electrical
. BodyGuard 5d - no help as min decay taken.
    . Kobold - no cold.

So it's still looking good for 50/50 stab/impact.

A lot of the Calypso damages don't make a lot of sense so I wouldn't asssume anything. Arkadia mobs might be more logical though, who knows :)

Yep, if you can rule out acid too then that would be confirmed (notwithstanding the silly Shrapnel issue).

Acid already ruled out by the test with Musca, shown in my initial test results:
    Musca .... 7.............Impact,stab,cut yes
    .............................Acid no

You mean 5, not 7, with no Cut, right?

If so then it's case closed, good job :)
