Me and a friend are both new. Him more-so than I. I have a few PEDs but not enough to pay for a ride. I am on Calypso and he is on Arkadia, We would like to know which planet is better for us to be on and if someone can give one of us a ride to the other planet?
Hi Chris, I think entropiatransport is doing slow flights that you can get a seat on for free or for some little donation so you can come to your friend here at Arkadia
Arkadia has a really good learning environment for new players and I like think the average person you encounter here is more friendly than on Caly but Caly does have a couple of things going for it also. Firstly the economy is much stronger so its easier to dispose of your loot for MU. I know it can be an issue to find someone to sell here at times. Secondly the last VU added a mission there to get 10k puny bones to trade in for an attribute point. I don't know the details but some of my soc mates are farming the punies to sell bones to higher level players. So its a good way for new players to generate some income.
add me Rowdoc Rowdoc Donner to your friends list from Player Register ... & shout if you a free ride around Arkadia
Well, I've been to both and each planet has its own virtues and vices. Caly has a more robust economy and far more people then Arkadia for the most part. This is both boon and bane however and I will tell you why. There are alot of people with alot of opinions on the "best" way to work the game. And for the most part, every single one of them is different to varying degrees. On Ark, there are few players, thus a smaller economy but, I have found there is a general consensus on the "best" style of play with minor variables. On Caly, there are A LOT more missions. Again, its a double edged sword. The Ark missions are fewer but, most all have a decent reward (as rewards go) and there are alot on Caly that simply don't HAVE a reward and thus, its pure PED loss for nothing gained. On the TT, Ark is better to me for starting gear. The ranged weapons cost slightly less for the same bang (for the most part) and the other gear is pretty much the same with two, very glaring differences..... 1) Ark has a low cost scanner for mining that is repairable. It costs 1 PED and takes 2 probes a drop. Very good starting miner gear. Sadly the only thing comparable on Caly is a .06 PED scanner in the beginner miner tab that is (L) and wears out in about 10-15 drops. The next scanner up on both takes 20 probes a drop. To give you some idea about the difference, the 2 probe drop costs .1 PED (EU dime) and the 20 probe drop costs a full 1 PED (EU Dollar) or 10x the cost for the same one drop. That is a HUGE difference to a starting player. 2) Ark has NO MELEE WEAPONS on its TT. Caly has 3 (though they are costly). So if you plan on having a melee weapon, Caly is the better place to start or be. Melee weapons have a HIGH decay rate but give strength and HP when you use them...so the choice is yours. Hunting is another area where the two planets are different. Ark has just a fewer 'puny' or low level things to hunt then Caly. There is only one critter (carabok puny) that is not an L0 (that I found anyway) that is easy to kill for a starting player. And I have only found 3-4 places to hunt them. Caly has at least 3 kinds of 'puny' and they are L2 and 2-3 other L2 and L3 critters that are relatively easy to hunt. So, you can hunt a wider variety of creatures and there are naturally a wider number of spots you can hunt on Caly. Not there are two schools of thought on that....some say stick to one critter to improve stack building (getting a large number of the same item to sell on auction or player to player) and some say having a wider range of items means you can find a buyer quicker (player to player buying smaller stacks). Both of these schools are correct and both are wrong to me. Its nicer to have a bigger stack and then you can use the auction (and be prepared to pay the fee for using it of 5% or .50 PED whichever is greater) but at the same time you get your money back faster and get the benefit of having social interaction by selling player to player, however you have to stand around hawking your things and find someone to buy. Again, your choice. Oh, bit of advice. DO NOT TT ANYTHING IF YOU DON'T HAVE TO (or find out its worthless otherwise). {EDIT (Snape): Deleted under Rule 2i - Advertising/Solicitation} Last note I can think of is this....size.... Caly seems ALOT bigger and the mobs are much, much MUCH bigger in powerful sizes from what I have seen. The biggest critter I have seen on Ark is L70(ish) to L80(ish). On Caly I have seen a robot L244 with alot more in the same area L85-L188. And its really easy to find L15+ all over the place. Now, again, this is a 2 edged situation. Ark is easier for the starting player because of this because the critters are not going to eat you as often or as quick when you do get crossways on them. Also, ROBOTS SHOOT YOU AT RANGE quite often!!! That and I have found 2 things on Caly that seem to aggro from across the freaking planet...Atrox (may the raptor that got humped by a T-Rex spawn be BLEEPITY BLEEP BLEEPED) and a small, pinkish, 4 legged (I think) pig squealing L5 road runner from Looney Tunes is slow and in reverse fast things in the desert area that shoot out of nowhere to eat you in packs things..... And no, I am no exaggerating. I have had a Atrox charge me from the very edge of my rader screen when I have it set to max range and those little pig squealing pink things I have had head toward me from OUT of the radar range and get to me before I have completely my 180 degrees, HARD ABOUT and run....the Atrox will smack you hard but miss some. Those little pig squealers don't miss but don't hit as hard. But there is no way you can outrun them on foot. Hell I couldn't out run them in a Val or Alienware Hovercar...lol. Hope this helps.
Couple comments.... Ark TT does have melee weapons in it, but there's no powerfist (yet). Melee weapons give about the same overall eco as guns, but since they don't use ammo, all the cost comes directly from weapon decay. Also, Ark has 3 beginner mobs, the Carabok, Gallard, and the Nusul Puny. They can all be found west of the quarry (nusul are northwest). Caly is bigger, more oriented toward older players. Arkadia is more newb-friendly, with wide open areas for mining, easy terrain, and clean mob areas with low agro.
