Had this idea havn't totally thought it through but thought i'd put it out there. What if you only really payed for ammo and to kill stuff in instances and there was way way way more instances and you could only loot items in instances and space. So hunting outside of instances was free or at a very very very low cost. Or maybe switch it around where some instances where free to play with lower costs kind of like how the fort events use less ammo... Thoughts?
how would companies like mindark or arkadia studious pay the bills + salaries with a free to play model? I think a big part of this game is the "gambling" aspect of it. Though there are a very large playerbase who barely pay any money, the truth is that we need big depositers so the lights stay on. Now... "cheaper" to play would be nice lol. So you COULD play for 20 dollars a month and be ok. just my 2 pecs also .. fort events were a huge bust. no one does them. its too expensive to host an event. - Perhaps an instance where u get 0 loot, and 0 skills. in turn you do not decay. That is the only way i could see it work.
the same way DC Universe, Firefall, StarWars The Old Republic MORE PLAYERS which you would gain right now all we are getting is gamblers and those gambers are realizing that they can have more fun at a casino. Many people would play for fun not just for the chance at making money.
all those games also have subscriptions.. which you get better options in your gameplay when you pay. EU would have to change drastically to meet the same f2p model. Also to be competitive in any of those games, you cannot indeed go F2P. But you can def trade and fannagle your way in EU to a true f2p model (ie star). I love the way eu is right now. I think its insanly hard. I personally have lost a crapton of money in this game, but that is what captures me. Figuring out how to get it back! I just don't think a f2p model is possible here on EU. You could always sweat to get some starter peds. In bangladesh the income in a walmart factory is as low as 21 cents an hour. On arkadia its 25 cents an hour ... lol Just saying option is available to sweat for some gameplay here. Least you make more then an entry level walmart factory worker in bangladesh! And you don't have to sow any shoes. An option which i take all the time.
there is another way that everyone (MA and the players) can get more money/peds .. it is called "advertisement" ...if the MA invite some big (or small) companies to advertise in the game, we all can get more money/peds ... the advertisement is everywhere, on tv, magazins, papers ... so why not we all get benefits from the "advertisement" ... put some advertisement boards and sell them to some big (or small) companies, or some textures for clothes and vehicles with logos .... and if it make it right ... money/peds for all (I mean more money for MA and maybe better loot for players or more free events with good rewards)... and when more and more new players come the "advertisement" in the game will become more and more "desirable" ... and I think in this way everyone will WIN! p.s.:don't know if this is done it befor in this game, but maybe it is good to try ... more players, more money/peds, everyone is happy ... and I think that is better to watch some "advertisement" in the game that you really like to play and get some benefits from it, than to watch the same thing on TV on every 20 - 30 min and get ... nothing With best regards OLD NICK
The biggest draw to EU is the "Chance" to make money in it. Anyone who says different is full of shit and needs to see a doctor for gambling issues or lack of oxygen to the brain. What keeps people here once they get into EU is either they have wasted far too much money to walk away OR they have too many relation ships they have built over time. Personally I stay because other games are a mindless grind and too easy..EU is not easy by any means but with the missions now where you kill a bajillion mobs while autoclicker fires a gun while you watch a movie , read a book, clean house..check in for a NL or fag mints every once in a while and repeat. There are many many other games with far better game play.. more efficiantly programmed and optimised, and as we ALL know FARRRRR ans a away less buggy. The problem is that they are all pretty much the same.. too easy to level up.. too many kiddiots destroying most every thing you strive to do... and the fact at some point you HAVE to do massive raids relying on others not to act a fool and waste six or more hours of your life by being stupid or intentionally messing up the raids. MA is falling into that trap now that the PP's are advertising the game trying to draw players and with that the kiddiots are migrating here asking for every fad uner the sun from all the other games, crying its too had and too slow to skill, and now running hacks n mods because they suck at games and it is the standard to HAVE to use them in other games just to compete. They ONLY thing that will dig EU out of the downward spiral is to STOP putting all this bullshit in game then forgetting about it the next week to add the next unfinished fad. Get the cost to play back with in the atmosphere at the very least. Weed out upper management and whatever moron is advising them that all this crap they are randomly throwing in game will save it and or make them money. Stop wasting programmer time and salaries doing all this crap and get back to making EU original and NOT like other games. The F2P part is still here its still available and it is STILL a choice.
Personally I accept that I will loose out in tt on the long run, beating the system and profiting despite that is what makes this game fun for me. Also I like the fact that skills take either a lot of sweat/blood/time or a helluva lot of money, otherwise we would be like any other mmo where everyone has maxed gear and maxed skills. The fact that these are so expensive or hard to get make them 100000 times more special. Advertising has been tried before ingame, you used to have the option to enable adds ingame and then have a chance of getting that revenue in your loot. The problem I think is that EU's population is just too low for there to be any real appeal for the advertising companies. If EU was 100% f2p tomorrow, in the sense that they remove the real cash economy... I would prob quit on the spot and never look back.
If it really goes f2p it will be closed few days later. There are other games outside with better gameplay than EU. If the RCE part is gone, nobody will stand in front of a mob, press autoshoot, watching TV same time and will feel some fun while doing so. No reason to play something designed like EU anymore. My only wish is to have a better balance inside, the way it was 1 or 2 years ago, when depo lasts much longer than nowadays. And stopp to add more BS until bugs are fixed. Stopping to add more unasked stuff and make a complete code review for half a year and hire some really good coders.
i love how people dont even read things. I NEVER SAID get rid of the RCE element. I said basically to just make it possible to actually have fun for free like you can in the many other games out there. It's no different then how we have free missions when we start we just need more of that. Make some instances free to do or at least cheaper. Fact is there are games out there now that are free to play with micro transaction and hybrid subscription options and people rather invest in those then a game that cost a lot and is not fun.
I understand what you mean, but I doubt it will work. Let's take Fort Events at 10% costs as example. In the beginning there was a big rush on it, now it is nearly dead. That means, we would need always new free content to keep ppl attracted with the free part of the game. The experiences of last VUs dont make me want to have more and more VUs. I fear the code will not get better when there is a need to bring in new stuff more frequently. Thats only my point of view, everyone is free to have another opinion in this. I really would prefer to fix all bugs in first line. After this job is done in the best possible way, there is room and time to bring something new, maybe some f2p parts to. But this f2p stuff must be *really* good. The normal MMORPG player -outside of EU- will always compare it with what is offered from other games to them for free. And at the current state of the universe, I don't think that EU can compete with the f2p content of those games.
all this is some kind of ... dilemma and balancing between - have a small population (mature players ... or rich), but "unique" (RCE, hard leveling and so on) and "expensive" (1 000 or 10 000 real dollars for a weapon or ... teleport on your land) gameplay ... OR ... have a big population (a lot of kiddiots), but "ordinary" (some RCE, easy leveling and so on) and "almost free" (1 or 10 real dollars for 1 month playing or loots with big tt) gameplay .... and everything dependents on what MA want ... and of course MA want more profit (it is normal) ... but there is only one thing that can make a big profit everytime and everyday ... it is the HOPE (or selling hope) ... the hope that, no matter how hard or expensive is the gamplay, one day you will have the opportunity to buy some of the best weapons, armors and why not a MS ... and to be honest MA doing all this very good, just the "scale" is to high (of course 1 000 or 10 000 real dollars are nothing for someone, but I think that for the average mature player 10 000 or 300 000 is to much)... I hope one day to be wrong, but I will never give 10 000 real dollars for a weapon or armor or ... and if I have 300 000 real dollars I definitely will not put them (or invest) in an onlinegame (only if I am maybe a millioner or developing my own game) ... so in the end ... the game is really great and have so much opportunities for development (new planet every year, more space stations, more vehicles (and ships) and can give chance to all players to have a place to call home (like small houses or apartments) and so on and so on) and can become The Best Game Ever, but it must give just a little bit of more "hope" to the players ... and it is a simple formula: more "hope" -> more players -> more money !!! With best regards OLD NICK p.s.:why "hope" - when you first read for this game you get a "big hope" that you can go and play and make a lot of money, and after 1 or 2 months (or sooner ... or later) you understand that to make money in this game you must be either a very rich and invest a lot of money, or have a really really big luck and be very very clever and sooner or later you will start to lose this "big hope" and in the end you will just quit from the game. ... of course there is another (some kind) point of view, that ... if you are very very clever and have a really really big luck you will get rich in the real life and will play the game for fun ... or ... you will get rich in the game and will live your life for FUN !!!
Interesting idea. So outside of instances would have no loot as well. I don't know...it just may work..
Well a lot of people want to have a very high turnover (bigger guns, bigger mining amps, condition crafting), so i don't think that would work. Maybe one or two instances without loot/costs could be fun to get more of a feel for the game, but on the other hand most planets already have missions that are free to play that occupy newcomers for a few hours.
Does this game play on tablets, smart phones? That's the future! It seems like a ton of new devices can't even load the game.. ?
Its run on the crysis engine bud. Can you play Crysis on your smart phone? To be flat out honest.. you RELLY do NOT want to play thiis game at all on something with low or bare minimum resouces running it. That surely would be a disaster as you would be simply throwing money into a lag pit. Its hard enough tp play with server lag using a decent machine. then add in slower ping times around the world and you compound the disaster of playing with low resources.
