Ok noob question, are the numbers depicting the min skill points? Or the levels? (Level 1,2,3 etc..) (Skill points 1-1000) Mod note, question came up in this thread: New Herman skill requirements
the numbers in the Herman weapons is for when you can start to use them, Herman LAW-5 Desert (L) as example you can start to use when your profession Laser Sniper (Hit) and Ranged Laser (Dmg) is level5 and maxed the gun at lvl10(11) the skill count you have to be these profession levels don't matter as long as your profession is level 5 or higher, might be you are higher then level 5 in these ones even tho you never touched a gun and only used melee, you would still be able to use it
To clarify, the number indicates the profession lvl at which SIB starts. There are numerous threads on how SIB works. But my recommendation would be to avoid using a weapon till you have it maxed (10/10 hit, ur damage range = the max range possible). The reason is that you then use the weapon at maximum efficiency, reducing your cost to kill. This usually happens about 5 lvls after SIB starts. Look for weapons where it says "SIB: not any more".
Just a slight addition to KikkiJikki's post: It's very unlikely that you will get the hit and damage professions maxed at the same time, or even close to it; the hit profession almost always goes up faster. Personally, I am quite prepared to go along with the damage profession not being maxed (as long as it's in SIB range) as long as the hit profession is. The reason? Well, although damage is not optimal if you haven't got the damage profession maxed - it's a lot worse to miss altogether a lot. If you have the damage profession in SIB, it's quite possible that the reduction in damage will be offset (in money terms) by the greater rate of skill gain. After all, skills have a value - at least potentially.
