Remind me to never go back up in to the loft for a while ;P been the sort of person I am I like to keep things to the fact that I still have an 8086 computer 512mb of ram - soundblaster 16 - vga card and duel speed cdrom and it still works ;P it even has MS dos 6 on it and windows 3 - in monochrome !

But Along side this relic I have just found a whole heep of CDRom's with some rather classic pc games on them so I was wondering what Classic PC games people remember from back in the day.

Titles that are memorable and cool

    Z

This game by the Bitmap Brothers was really fun - especialy networked together and the cut sceanes and stroy line were great. - when they promoted this they even changed the rocket fuel to Carlsberg Special Brew ( a very alcoholic lager ) in the uk.

Command and Conqure - Red Alert

A Very similar style but there wer emore game sin the series than Z - also a different studio but still a good game - I actually got this on day of release at midnight and was working in the internet cafe we lanched it in as well !

    Quake - The Origenal

Well we can probably remember wolfenstien 3d but then - quake cam through with a new game engine and at the time blistering great graphic's

I am sure i can dig out some more but would be interesting to see what others can remember of games around these times ( 95 - 00's ) or other memorable PC Favorites ! ! !

Old games, sure, heres a few:

Dune 2, the first RTS, ofc made by Westwood, based on the wonderfull book Dune. :)

Wolfenstein 3d, old school fps, got headaches as a kid when I switched from a bw monitor to a color one.

Prehistorik 2, a nice platformer game with a hungry cave man. :)

And, Prince of Persia, original :)

The Elder Scrolls 2: Dagerfall, the ancestor of Morrowind and Skyrim, think its still the largest world generated in any video game.

Those are the few old ones I can pick out from my head.
    :)

Homeworld on the PC (the original version)
It had an excellent storyline, great soundtrack, and again lots of mystery because it didn't explain everything, the ability to command a fleet or even individual ships was well balanced and the true 3D navigation system was intuitive & simple. Note: the remastered version does have a slightly different feel to the game and the graphics are vastly different when compared.
(I searched the internet for many hours for this particular pre-youtube video without success, but thankfully found it saved on an old hard drive from a PC that died in 2004.)

Here's a clip of Homeworld 2, it shows how game plays at least:

Beyond Good and Evil on PC
It had an excellent storyline, good soundtrack, and it didn't explain everything leaving some mystery.
The game interaction changed a lot throughout with photography, stealth, combat, racing, puzzle solving, air/space combat.
This reviewer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E_Vx7FlMGKA says it better then I can. But enjoy the trailer below this too.

Star Control 2 on the 3DO, the introduction on this version is the best one (IMHO).
It had a great storyline, good game play, interesting soundtrack & was often hillarious (thanks Pkunk), didn't explain everything leaving a lot of mystery's, had player vs player mode, could change ships whenever (after got access to them).
Yes the Graphics may look bad to you now... But in 1992 most people only played Super Mario Bros, so SC2 had fantastic graphics then.

The Runner Ups are: Thief The Dark Project & The Metal Age, and System Shock I & II (thankfully previously mentioned)

But here's a quick list of games I considered before settling on my top 3, each were memorable or revolutionary in their day.
PET/Vic20/C64: Chipwits, Battle Chess, Spy vs Spy.
Intellivision II: Astrosmash, Star Strike, Sub Hunt, Utopia.
    Sega Master System: Phantasy Star.
TurboGraphics16/TurboExpress: Bomberman, Military Madness, Moto Roader, Splatterhouse, Ys I & II, Bonk.
SNES: Super Black Bass Fishing, Rock-n-Roll Racing, Utopia, Secret of Mana, Tecmo Secret of the Stars.
TTI Duo: Dragon Slayer"The Legend of Heroes" I & II, Sim Earth The Living Planet.
3DO: Lost Eden, Shockwave I & II, The Horde.
On PC: Carmageddon, Doom/Hexen, Solar Wind, Total Annihilation (all of them), Mechwarrior 3 & 4-Vengeance, Sid Meier's Pirates, Outforce, Submarine Titans, Descent/Freespace I & II, StarCraft, Medal of Honour, Robot Arena, Dawn of War Dark Crusade, Scrapland American McGee, Glean (hope that all took you on a journey down memory lane ha ha ha)

Sorry for the long post above, just wanted to mention on HW & Thief forums I went by Akillius or GarDarkPro. For HW I did the Super Salvager code mod in HW, but then ppl learned how to do new 3d models & thankfully they all blew me away. ;D

Hey (HW) ZapAtaxes you still out there??? Hope you didn't kick any more monitors since we last talked so many years ago. :)
zapat kicked his monitor at ending credits when dancing & jumping after finishing HW & I saw this credits vid in my search earlier today & thought wow so many years but IDK. Hopefully he sees this post and joins EU if not on already. :D

Warning the original low-graphics ending credits here... (and Yes the band did the ending song)

Oh yes thats certainly brought back some memories - I started of with a zx spectrum origenally then moved up to the 8086 and dos 3 -6

So California Games & Outrun were in the collection then.

then went 286 / 386 / 486 sx and then dx then pentium 75 - never really owned a console but have fond memories of laser disk and 3d0

Chuck yeagers flight sim - also stealth fighter f19 or something and a word war 2 based flight sim can remember the names and the usual wollfenstin 3d - doom - quake - mech warrier and prince of persia .

I used to work at both a computer games shop and an Internet Cafe as both part time jobs in a time when the internet cafe had 128k duel isdn lines - when everyone else had a 33,6 modem if they were lucky. and windows 95 - 98 was the norm ! yes the plus pack with the inside your computer background and then the swirlie glass screen saver too. ( i used to do about 50 - 60 hour weeks )

So yes we got to test all the titles as well and so was really good for the new release weeks - we even had demo machines on in the shop and so this was mainly the play station but we were all pretty good at crash badicoot and then network games night at the internet cafe meant lots of practice ! .

I am having fond memories of cutsceanes and music - especially after the hours and hours of listening to a looping video advertising stuff that we had to play. Keep them coming - I will return to my box and see what other gems are there too ;) Although nostalgia is good its amazing to think where things have come in 20 years ! makes you wonder whats comming in the next ones !

I've probably played four times fourscore different games, starting with River Raid on Atari, but the one I often remember while playing EU is Sid Meyer's Alpha Centauri. It has something in common with EU - guess what it is. ;)

If anyone does not know, there is a page where you can download old games that are not under any digital rights anymore.

Ah, the nineties? During that time I was playing on all the consoles, and not (yet) on the PC. [IMG]
    Many, many great games... [IMG]
The ones that stick out as favorites from that period for me, are the classic RPGs:
    - Secret of Mana - 1993
    - Earthbound - 1995
    - Chrono Trigger - 1995
    - Alundra - 1997
    - And ofc all the (canon) Zelda games from ALttP on (with OoT on top).

The first PC exclusive game that I played was also one of the funniest: a freeware called Dink Smallwood - 1999.

Maybe first game I ever played on my first home computer. And maybe game I most enjoyed at that time.
Still remember configuration: 133 MHz processor, 16 MB RAM and 2 MB graphic card :)

After that I would mention Alien Trilogy, Panzer General, Lost Vikings, Worms, Warhammer: Shadow od the Horned Rat.
