Looking for a partner for a tentative little "project" of mine. At this stage is not really sure this would be interested; more like testing the waters to see if I would find an interested partner and generally gather feedback from everyone else. :)

What I'm looking for is a guy (must be male :p), 30+ years old, serious/scientific type, with a system able to record his game session and also webcam/microphone to record himself at the same time.

What I try to do is a series of YouTube videos, recorded as a duo, with a bit of chatting and playing certain roles. More exactly I will be the cute, innocent, clumsy, noob, dumb blonde girl (which kinda suits me anyway - hahaha) and you have to be the smart, strong, white-knight always saving the damsel in distress and teach her the proper ways of playing the game (an example of some "script" at bottom of post).

Once done, I have a friend (well, not friend, just a guy I know from other game) with whom I talked already, which is a "professional youtuber" (yeah, I laugh myself on this "title" :p) with other 1,000,000 subscribers and which agreed to do the editing of our recordings and to publish them on this channel as a 10-12 episodes "learn to play" series (15 to 30 minues long each).

    What's NOT in for us:
    - no copyrights; he will own all copyrights over the recordings
    - no benefits; any profits he will make from youtube ads and stuff are his

    Why still do it then?
    - helping the game - while indeed his followers may not be the exact right audience for EU (and that's said being nice - hahaha), still putting our videos in front of more than 1,000,000 people (and all his videos also having easily over 100,000 visitors) can only help
    - personal branding for ourselves and possibility to promote anything in our videos (for example you may promote your society or offer to take disciples as a mentor :p For myself I have noting to promote - hahaha :p)

Interested? Send me a PM with some things about yourself and we can start a discussion from there; if we discover we make a good team, will also put you in contact with the youtube guy to talk with him directly and make sure that I'm in the same boat with you and I don't have a hidden profit or something. :)

And yeah, promised an example of "script" we should play (that will be the "style" of the series):

Me seeing a level 50 "dinosaur" like mob - run straight to him making a happy face to the camera and saying "Aww... he's so cute... can I tame it?"
You take your big gun, shoot it down, saving my a$$ and explaining: "Look, all mobs have a number next to them, that L52 for example - that means that is a level 52 mob and is not advised to approach him till you don't have at least 52 evade"
Me: "Buuuuuuut... I have already 120 evade points!"
You (laughing): "Evade skill, not evade points, you silly..."
Me: "Oh? and where I can see those?"
You: "Well, press (key) and there you can see them."
Me: "Aaaah... I got it... smart thing... good to know..."
while at the same time run right away to next level 52 mob
You, while taking the gun away again and *facepalm*: "Oh, no, not again!"

I'd love to help, but with my schedule I wouldn't have a hope of being available.

The world will be a much better place when we get rid of this increasingly prevalent culture of people working for free for so-called "exposure".

The only thing that will be exposed by this is your naivety.

Don't be exploited by people who are making a profit from your efforts without you having any share in that profit.

Having an EU 'how to play' on an established YT game channel could be a great way to get more publicity. :biggrin2:

As for feedback: I wonder about the 'scripting' instead of just letting the 'professional' YouTuber himself do the play through.
The format of 'cute dumb blond' vs. 'smart superior male' might work well for certain demographics, but I like to think that EU players are a bit more mature than that.
Maybe that's coloured by my (female) point of view that the 'helpless, stupid' girl who can't manage without the help of a man, is an outdated, undesirable image.

Sure, it's only a game video, but I don't think that arcane gender role playing is vital or even necessary to promote EU in an entertaining way.
Aren't the most popular YouTubers the ones who are themselves, and act naturally?
(Or on the opposite end of the scale: the totally overacting ones on comedy channels.)
If going with acted characters, then why not be more original? And flip the script to make it stand out of the crowd, in a humorous way.

Anyway, never mind me: just my POV.
GL with your endeavor, hopefully it'll be worth your while, and it'll be successful in giving positive exposure to EU.

    Ps. is this a typo?
"What's NOT in for us: - no benefits; any profits he will make from youtube ads and stuff are yours"

I'm sorry, but I stopped reading after the third paragraph. The whole 'damsel in distress' part is highly outdated and I would think (hope) that the new way of doing things is to apply equality. Even turning it to a superior woman and daft guy feels old (although entertaining if done right ).

But by all means create entertaining and informative videos for the masses. I remember there was someone a while back asking for ideas for tutorial videos and he got tons of replies on what to do and not to do, but I cannot seem to find it (may have been posted before the forum change (it ate old posts)). If anyone else remembers this thread and know where it is feel free to share. :)

Something about all this just doesn't make any sense really. I would have to say from reading it you just want to try and meet some 'male' online in hopes to maybe get married one day. The idea is good..but how you want to play it out just wouldn't make the game look good overall. Also I'm not sure your friend would even post these since most likely he only posts his own videos and to add a third party again wouldn't suit his title well.

Also this would piss more people off then do good since you are wanting to create a 'dumb blond woman'

Anyway, GL and hope you find your sole mate.

As a female irl I find it hard to believe that you are actually female and want to promote Ark or EU in such a way.

I have met a few over the top, girly avatars that act all cutesy and silly and have always thought they were trying too hard to come across as female and they did in fact turn out to be male players.

I don't have a problem with men that have female avatars at all but I do have a problem with anyone who wants to promote the "dumb blond" stereotype. One of the things I love about EU is that it is hard to tell if a female avatar is or not in real life because ability to play this game has nothing to do with gender.

Promotion is a fine idea but please don't do it in a way that makes female players out to be dumb and in need of rescuing because that is not what this game is about.

    Regarding the feminist responses

I didn't mean it as a generalization... as in if I choose to play the dumb role, that means that all other girls, or even the real me, are like that... is just a script, a role... is not like Jennifer Aniston is as dumb as Rachel from Friends or that Matt LeBlanc is as dumb as Joey Tribbiani from the same show... I don't know if any of you saw "The Guild" series - it was a hugely successful series that was successful just because of that - it hyperbolized some gamer stereotypes... everyone knew that this is not real, but it was just fun to watch (at least for a lot of people). Should I go further and take as an example another really successful TV series from real life like "The Big-Bang Theory" which goes with the very same approach of hyeperbolizing some stereotypes, and yes, it includes the pretty, yet dumb blonde girl one. :p

Now you see the things from your perspective of an adult gamer - and I can understand it. But, as I said, this guy's audience is far from the typical EU player target. His videos are mostly focused on Minecraft, so the audience of his demographics probably consists in 90% of male teenagers (probably in the 12-18 years interval); and on this audience, the approach could work really well. Actually, he was the one that suggested me the approach when I asked him if we could work some Let's Play video.

    Regarding anything else

If finding the right option (in script and partner) then it getting live is no problem. As I said, I already discussed with the guy and he agreed with it - of course he would do his editing, he would make his intro and his ending, maybe introduce his own comments here and there, but mostly it will be just our recordings, with each of us webcams recording on bottom corners of the screen.

About not making a profit out of it - well, I don't think that everything in live is about money. Personally I would love to know that I did something that put the name of the game I love in front of more people. And yeah, between the options of publishing it ourselves on a new youtube channel and make a few cents out of the very few random visitors that would see it, I prefer to make no money, but to know that it is visualized by tons of people.

About the comment if I am actually a girl or not IRL... I can only laugh at... if I would actually be a guy, how the hell could I record my part of shooting? :p Wearing a wig? Hahaha

    TL; DR / Conclusions

I really don't understand why some people really love to shoot down an idea. I had an idea and I was willing to work my a$$ off for it without any personal benefit, just being my way of trying to help the game. And is not like I expected gratitude, appreciation or flowers :p but I really didn't envisioned people throwing tomatoes and rotten eggs at me either. Is not like it will be an official video or like it can be only one Let's Play video out there and I waste the spot with my (dumb) idea... it was just an idea for one more. If you think this is dumb, nobody stops you also recording a better, different one; from my point of view, the more exposure for the game and for our beloved planet, the better.

Remember that any publicity is good publicity and the famous quote: "I don't care what the newspapers say about me as long as they spell my name right."

Skip the whole gender & age stereotyping. One of the strongest avatars is a smart, strong, independant female who dances on the corpses of her hapless victimes and who is played by an intelligent, fat man making money by playing.

What might work better is when another newbie* joins you and you two start a discussion. Then a more experiences player comes to explain things. The idea in itself is good and when done properly it could be very educatorial for newbie* and noob* players (and older alike). Plus, if your friend coöperated it might even attract a few new players to join our universe.

    * I don't like to use the term 'noob' or 'newbie' much myself. For me a newbie is someone who has only resently joined the game. For him/ her everything is new, exciting and he/ she is prone to make many mistakes. I think a 'noob' is someone who has no (or little) knowledge of (a certain aspect of) the game. This because he/ she either never tried that part or is too stubborn and ignorant to learn from others. For example, one who has never opened a crafting-terminal can be considered a crafting-noob. One who is a lvl 50+ hunter and keeps getting overall returns of ~70% can be considered a hunting-noob.

    Theres a few issues here:
    A. Why are you targeting 12-18 year old's with a very much adult game? Heck section one of the TOU is age requirement.
    B. Yes, the hurr durr style gets the younger viewers, but you cant apply that style to everything, it lends itself best to things that are inherently not serious.
    C. Quite frankly the whole dumb blond thing wouldn't even work in Minecraft, its outdated, straight out of a old sitcom, and highly offensive if the viewers are even old enough to get it.

I'm sorry if it seams like I'm ripping on you too much here, I do certainly want to see more Entropia videos put out, but as someone who has been in Entropia since PE, and is very active in the YouTube Minecraft community, this topic bothers me to no end.

If you want to see a video style that lends itself well to Entropia I suggest looking up Super Game Time 2000, they have been doing great work.

Age requirement is 13+ with parental agreement. :)

And I target this audience because to this audience I have access to via this guy... I don't know any other big youtuber with better demographics and I don't have neither the skills or the knowledge to do it all by myself.

I know is not the ideal target, but is not really about what I wish for, but about what I can aim for... my aim was just to try to find a way to help the game and ourplanet get more free visibility...

Ok, just to set this out there right at the start, some of you are gonna be pissed about my comments. Oh well, it happens...
    BUT, having said that...
I'll be honest and say I agree, yet disagree with most of the negative replies.
Yes, the "dumb blonde" angle is old, and tired. As an intelligent Redhead, I tend to agree there.
But that's no reason to shred both her idea completely, or to make insinuations that SHE is actually a dumb blonde. As she stated, it's a role. an act... and considering some of the crap that's on television around the world, that use the same tired idea (as she mentioned a couple) Not THAT bad an idea, since it DOES seem to work, and not just with the 12 - 18 demographic, but with the 18 - 25 group, which actually IS the target demo for MA.

And since we don't seem to have a single youtuber that's getting that huge following, like the friend she mentioned, Maybe one of OUR youtubeing members should have come up with a better idea instead. Or have been willing to offer to help her to refine her idea into something that is more in keeping with the general ideas behind MA and Arkadia's gaming systems.

As for the profit vs altruism angle.... Sheesh... She's trying to help drive the GAME's profits, not her own. I think that's awesome, and if it worked, it would actually BE a thing that could drive her OWN game profit up. Not ALL things are about an immediate ROI. This sounds more like a long term investment in the stability of our universe, than some scheme to make a few bucks to play with.

Last thing... the "feminist view"... That's as tired as the friggin dumb blonde part. We don't burn our bra's anymore... we take the jerks to court now for being stupid beyond the norm. Personally, I proved I'm a better male than most of my detractors back when I was in the US Military, and the guys around me were struck dumb by my skills and abilities. I've nothing left to prove to anyone except myself, which is all ANY of us should be trying to do. If a man wants to be a misogynistic SOB, he's gonna be, no matter what anyone says... If a woman wants to be a man-hating, bra burning feminist, she will be no matter what anyone thinks.
Our society is ever changing and evolving, even those things are changing and evolving constantly. We may not always like where they seem to be at any one point, but time will change that. Getting upset by something that WILL change, due to the nature of life, is actually pretty silly. Personally, I enjoy a bit of gentlemanly behaviour now. Maybe it's because I'm over 50 and getting a little tired of the bullcrap, but hey, that's me... Live your lives your way. But try NOT to rub the shine off of a newly minted treasure without looking at how tarnished we have all become by being older and jaded.

    *gets off my soapbox*

Based on the received feedback and after one more discussion with the youtube guy, I decided to drop this.

So please close this; thank you.
