Yep, he was talked about minimum deposit size to qualify on "Free GC Offer".
Price in TT (when I pusrhased my in 2005-2006) was 200 PED for both GC and reader (not sure about current price on site).

The Price is the same! 200 PED for GC and reader, 100 PED only for reader and 150 for faster shiping

Yeah, the free one was offered after you'd depo'd at least $500 USD from your first log in with your associated ID

    one thing
There is automatic e-mail system at MA.
As soon new avatar get more then 1000 peds on pedcard (no need to be from deposit) avatar account owner get automatic e-mail with invitation to obtain gold card.
    So
    - if ava dont have at least 1000 peds on pedcard - i supose is not worth hacking,
    - if ava gave fake e-mail addres - well f..k him - must be future wanabe scamer,
    - if avatar/ account owner did read MA message and did nothing - moron deserve to be hacked and after that sued by MA for bad reputation.

Well, Isn't this just lovely... ya'll finally convinced me to go ahead and activate the bloody damn gold card that's been sitting here (got it like 6 months ago) and the very FIRST time I try to use it, I get "Error 72" and now I can't log into the friggin' game. GRRRR...

    Support case submitted to MA.

I got error 12. But then I took out the card, logged in and THEN inserted the card to have it work just fine.

Ma mentioned that one of causes is also batery - ie if reader was not used frequently.
I get error 72 sometimes too, youst reinsert card, few times if need and it will work.

I got my gold card the second month I played. It doesn't always read the card first time but you get the quirks of them figured out fast. Mine lasted over 7 years before I had to change the battery. Its a common one so no problems finding them. I logged in twice and got rejected for wrong code. The 3rd time it resynced and have never had a problem NOT being able to get in game in the 8 years I have had it.

Two-step verification systems like this are highly recommended and they are in place for many sites / games (blizzard, wargaming, gmail, facebook, outlook, skype, etc); they tremendously increase your security by requesting at every login something you know (password) and something you own (the time limited code) - this way even if someone hacks your password or steals your code generator they can still not login - they just need them both.

However, what I don't understand is why they go with this gold card (sounds just like a low attempt to take more money from us) and not just do what any other company out there does it - use a mobile phone application for generating codes or just text message you a code. I think I have like over 10 services / sites where I use two-step verification, but none of them forced me to buy a gadget to benefit of it.

this system is old and MA is slow. 10 years ago there were no apps on *cough* mobile phones the size of a brick.

You are not forced to buy a GC and if you depo enough you get one for free. I know that's a bummer for any non-depositor but hey, life sucks.

I'm very happy having a GC and reader rather than having yet another bit of kack on my phone tyvm. Three cheers for the luddites :mooning:

    Look how Blizzard handled this:
    - they have the physical authenticator (which was also the original one) for those that want a separate gadget
    - they also offer the mobile version (which is free and instant) for those who prefer it
    - [bonus] also, in case of broken gadget, they just let you unlock your account and remove the authenticator (either physical or mobile one) with just password and SMS text messge on your mobile phone

So... not saying to replace GG card reader... just that it would be nice to also have a mobile version which would be free, instant (no mailing times) and more convenient for many of us.

Yeah, having even GG only is better than nothing, but having both options would be way more cooler. :D

I really hope MA will never add such "bonus" or at least it will be disabled by default, since that is a _huge_ security hole, which makes two-factor authentication useless (not talking about the fact, that mobile application way less secure than standalone non-connected device).

Is Blizzard's one really working that way?

[updated] Looks like it's not that bad, as you described, if "SMS Protect" disabled - Remove Battle.net Authenticator (Lost or Broken Authenticator).

Yeah, it really works like this. And in this case you still have two-factor authenticator - your password (which you know) and your mobile phone where you get the SMS (which you own) - you can't disable the authenticator with only one of them (only the password or only the mobile phone).

Now I am not a security expert :) But if it really works for Blizzard, for Google, for Microsoft or for Facebook, I really think that it would work for EU too. :) And it is, at least in my humble opinion, much more convenient - no need to wait for mailing, no need to pay for, no need to carry an extra device after you if you log from different locations, no need to send your scanned documents if the devices gets broken, etc.

And, remember, that is *just an option*. I never suggested replacing the current GG; whoever is more happy with this system, could and should stick with it (like many people stick with their physical Blizzard Autheniticator).
