24 Hours Mêlée all the Way!

Celebration of Ardorjies 10th Anniversary, Mêlée Style!

Hello dear Arkadians,

I would like to invite you all to join me in my 10th 'spawnday' celebration-event "24 Hours Mêlée all the Way!" at saturday january 10. First off, my life as an Entropedian:

End of december it will be ten years ago that I signed up for "Project Entropia" and found myself als 'Ardorj-Njarr' spawned in Twin Peaks, Calypso. Long story short: I wasn't looking for a Sci-fi game or even a MMPORG, but a friend of me mentioned it to me, it being a 'free game where you can travel all around'. So I learned to sweat, found friends, bought a sword and Settler-armour and set out as a brave hunter. Only to be killed by the first creature I saw, a Cornundacauda. Leap of events and years: I got more friends, lost friends, got an Opalo, got more swords, visited CND (now FOMA) and CP, joined Supremacy Reign, got even more swords, unlocked Markmanship and Ranged Damage Assesment too. Migrated to Arkadia, lost and found new friends, sold all my BP's, reached the milestone of 100 Mêlée weapons in my collection, started playing around with MindForce, unlocked Medicine and Power Catalyst. Looted the awesome Piron PBP-10 and GYRO Combat FAP-60 Smuggler, unlocked Coolness as a Swordsman.

You can conclude two mayor thing for my story above:
1) When I say 'short story', I mean 'less then 10.000 words'.
2) Mêlée weapons, and swords in particular, has been with me for all these 10 years.
Another thing about me that friends would of propably know is that I can do crazy things 'for science' or 'because it's the way it has to be'. If you don't, look up my Halix and Hadraada logs.

Therefore I would like to celebrate my 10th 'spawnday' in style, my own crazy mêlée style! And will go like this (it's still somewhere in the planning stage in my head):
1) Hunt for 24 hours straight on, only using mêlée, ie. not even a tagging weapon.
2) Hunt on Planet Arkadia and the Underground.
3) Make a team "24 Hours Mêlée all the Way!" where everyone who wants to can join me. As long as one uses a mêlée weapons that's fine by me, ie. it's a public 'event'.
4) Hunt and global on as many creatures as possible.
5) If I can get it working, stream the entire 24 hours.

It would be fantastic if I can hunt all 24 hours in a team. In other words, that all along the way there's at least one other person in the team. The team-rules are very simple:
1) Every-one is invited. Have fun and invite your friends to share the fun.
2) Only use mêlée weapons, shooting is a capital offense!
3) Your skills don't matter, it's cool wether you use a MAKO FAL-1 from the TT, or an über weapon, tier 8.x with enhancers and stuff.
4) Team-rules will be set to 'Damage, stack share' and the sharing of good items is encouraged.
5) It will last till a) I am flat broke, b) I've fallen asleep, c) the dawn of doomsday, d) 24 hours are over.
6) To try to get globals from as many Arkadian creatures as possible.
7) It starts on saturday 10th of january 2015 in the morning after I've woken up and had my breakfast. Will be most likely between 09:00 and 10:00 Europe-time.
8) When there's no-body to hunt with me I'll open the doors of Sal'dresh Vaults.

Oh ... and things are subject to change ... it will come however! Might be another day.

yep sounds good to me count me in will even book the monday off work as well as lets go for this ;P and knowing you it will be Melee and Scanning all the way ;D

 

Sound good to me, sadly i take the plane the 9 to go to see my family, and i don't think the 10 i will be able to come with you, i ill do my best to join anyway And happy birthday

 

I like the idea of that, I will keep it in mind. Not 100% sure if I will come but it sure sounds like fun

 

If I am home by then (and I hope to be) I will stop by and give some support for this.
Now to go see which melee weapons to break out...

 

A 24hr melee hunt is something I've wanted to do for years-since seeing Strykers Mil ammo and 24hr hunts all those years ago-so this may just be the catalyst to finally do it.

and since the gold rush is kind of out of my league I might as well join you for a bit of stabby stab!!

Ahhh ... Stryker ... that one was epic and I can't deny that my 24 hours Mêlée has been influenced by him.
Perhaps I'll make it an annual event, but not sure about that yet. I mean, Calypso has her WOF and that started simply with a team hunting big mobs with Marbers.

There are some questions that people ask me:
Q: Can you give me a weapon to hunt with?
A: No, this is not a sponsored event.

Q: Can I win anything?
A: No, this is not an event with a winner.

Q: I have no skills in melee, can I still join?
A: Yes, simple buy a sword or two from the TT.

Q: Can I shoot that mob with a tagger?
A: NO! Ranged is absolutely verboten!

I hope to get a team packed with mêlée-enthousiasts the clock round.

Is that still the same now with the Gold Rush Hunting Event?
I mean: still doing Vaults only if you're alone, or are you now perhaps also thinking of doing some Vaults with the team?
That would be doing two events at the same time!
Maybe fun to do for a bit?

 

One does not exclude the other! If the teams wants to do a Sal'dresh or Aakas, sure we'll do one. Might be fun to go inside one of the bigger Keys, and if it helps some with the Gold Rush, so much the better!
I merely said that I will do a Sal'dresh when I'm alone to leave the team open en continue hunting (ie. I'll not get a solo-global those 24 hours). I posted that before the change in the Keys that made all the creatures inside shared loot, but doesn't change a thing of course for this event.

Today, tuesday 30th december 2014, is my real 10th 'spawnday'!

Haven't been able to run a stream yet. I get an error with Twitch.tv, anyone knows a good alternative or how to run Twitch?
Less then a week to go, sharper your swords! (and daggers, whips, clubs, powerfists, axes, claws)

 

I just gave twitch a test run and my net upload is just too slow for it.

I've only just started looking at it so my knowledge is limited and you may know all this stuff already but....

Have you downloaded a streaming App?
If you dont know what that is ( I didnt till a couple hours ago) click on your name at the top of the twitch page and that will expand a menu,from that select 'Dashboard'.
Near the top of that page you should see a line that says 'First time broadcasting? Check out the streaming apps.'
Click on that and you should be able to go from there with a few options Twitch suggests though I'm sure there is more out there.


From what I understand so far Twitch is just a viewer and you still need an app to capture and upload the stream.


other than that if you know all this already then perhaps try a different app.

 

I'm a noob, I just can't get it to work. I got one of the streaming Apps (XSplit), first time I was totally ignorant that I would need anything like that ...
I tried "Steaming" and "Recording". The record showed a file being created, but when I stopped the XSplit froze to unresponding. After that I had no record-file. Tried streaming again this morning and looking at it from another computer, screen was all black (showing LIVE though).
Going to try a different app, maybe that works.

And consider this a bump

 

Downloaded a different app: OBS. I can see my screen in the preview, but when I actually try to stream I get this error:

 

So this is kicking off today?

ardorj they say you can keep tryuing for NEW keys for it to work cause yea some of them dont work when i stream it took me 5 times to find a stream key that worked good luck i stream all the time the quality depends on your computer power and internet speed

 

Look me up ingame I'd like to make a couple run with the team in those 24 hours
