So I was thinking last night when I was getting ready to log off about how much I like using my Emik s60 E.L.M pistol and wondered why Arkadia hasn't introduced some of these. Yes I know there will be the haters of this idea but give it some consideration. First off with a TT value of 1 ped but the enhanced durability on these they become a low cost option for someone just trying to skill thru to a certain skill level. Secondly I am not proposing that they take place of the normal (L) variants but are dropped in limited quantities much as they are on Calypso right now. I know LT are dropping a couple types like the Emik S60 and I believe one of the CalyTrek Soul variants. Personally I love the Piron series guns most of which do tend to have nice durability but often I find myself short on peds to be able to purchase them. I just think maybe Piron PBR-22 E.L.M would be a viable option and of course you can expand from there. Not every weapon needs an extended life version after all but maybe just a few of the popular ones. Anyway just a suggestion for the devs to consider. Discuss away:thumbsup:

Well, L versions of guns were removed from hunting loot so they didn't compete with the weapon crafting profession. We alreay have low cost versions of guns, the Pirons. I think there are already plenty of pirons. So dropping even more L weapons with low TT, designed to drop like rain would, IMO be a bad thing for the economy.

I don't get it. Cost to hunt with those guns is no different than higher TT guns because what you save is decay is lost in increased ammo cost. How is that better for you?

I might be wrong but I don't think there is any more ammo burn on the ELM than the standard ones. Yes the MU is higher but the decay is MUCH less. Exceptional durability compared to good makes a big difference.

I wish we had eco values for these on entropedia

I admit that would help a lot. I have a couple Emik S60 ELM in my storage on Arkadia if you want to try testing it out. I forget how to test decay and DPP/DPS and really don't WANT to do it anyway.

Unfortunately the data for the Emik is incomplete so I checked a couple of other guns.

If I look at the Calytrek soul mark II and compare normal L to ELM the ELM burns more ammo but has less decay. However on cost per shot basis the ELM is still cheaper. Excluding any MU consideration the standard gun costs 8.07 pec per shot (2.842 dpp). The ELM version cost 8.054 pec per shot (2.848 dpp). So it is marginally more eco. Buy the time you have used up the ELM (approx 6.9k shots), you have saved your self 1.06 ped, and done 20 points more damage ( thats a little over 0.01% more damage).

That's really not much of a difference.

The spirt mk III standard costs 0.004 pec per shot more than the ELM version. That's a difference in dpp of 0.001.

Now don't get me wrong. I am not opposed to these guns.

But before MU gets involved, there isn't much difference between them. There are really two aspects. You don't pay your costs up front but rather when you stock up on ammo. That can be attractive for a hunter on a low budget. And obviously MU has less impact on eco - which the market adjusts to. You can expect to pay much higher MU on the ELMS and I exepect smart hunters will be running the math on eco after MU for each weapon so see how much they are prepared to pay.

Personally I think people should take a good hard look at the Pirons. These are great guns. Relatively low TT compared to Hermans. Lower damage per click but high fire rate makes them combo really well with eco amps. As a crafter I am advising you (all) that before you come to my shop to buy a Herman you should check available Pirons and do some math with amps included.

    Regards,
    KikkiJikki

I do like the Pirons and use the pbr-22 with a beast quite frequently. As you stated the ELM weapons are more for someone like myself who is the player on a tight budget. I know i can afford to drop 9-10 ped out of pocket up front rather than the 50-60 ped for the normal L version. Again I'm not suggestion a market saturation of ELM just a few as something of an alternative. Thanks for doing the research for me since i was absolutely too lazy to really do it myself.

One scenario where ELMs could be much better is melee. Although I do recognize that some changes to melee are coming (hopefully to make the weapons reasonable to craft, judging by David's reply to my question in an interview) and a lot of the new melee amps already take over some decay off of the weapon.

I'm pretty sure that the cost per shot on the 1 PED guns (excluding markup) is always exactly the same as the regular versions, and that if Entropedia says different it's down to bad decay testing.

I've added the melee amp attribute to all the manta and mako blades on entropedia. Looking through some of them, the amps do help with eco when MU is up to say 105%, after that the eco goes down below what is feasible. So... if you have a looted blade or can get one off auction for very low MU it works, but <105% is still not enough to be craftable. They would have to use ammo of some type to be craftable and competitive with ranged weapons.

The ark crafted blades do have one thing going for them though, and that is that the materials have very low MU (probably because nobody crafts the blades!).

Agreed, this or making them repairable a set number of times. Otherwise TT return on them would have to be much higher but we know that won't happen. I'll wait and see ;) The ammo scenario seems to work for the ELM melee, if anything they don't break after an hour of hunting.
