Winds of something.... Problem is direction and the spokesperson of calypso is giving it further bad rep. You will have to pay me handsomely to do anything on calypso now. Just not trustworthy. I hold rocktropia and next island in greater regard than calypso.
Aw, at one time, I thought that a fourth David would appear; to complete the 'David-EU-CEO-Quartet'. But now the second 'D' has left the building. Guess in the end: "There can be only one!" (pardon, if I bungled up that Highlander quote) View attachment 9673 But yeah: hopefully this, and the moving back of Support, from Mexico to Sweden, is a good step > forward. View attachment 9672
Anything is an improvement. As an IT manager of offshore resources.. sometimes it is best to pull it back in house.
Crazy talk here. I think caly devs are doing an interesting job, whereas NI owner was clueless and has abandoned ship.
Sadly it doesn't take much to tempt them back - mention an event and they go weak at the knees and they rush back with open wallets.
No, I think it says that Ark may be hitting the pockets of Caly harder then expected, and therefore Caly is trying to win them back!
Not sure about all this winds of change talk but I know I for one plan on standing upwind of it all. Mindarks track record really stinks and until we / I see real proof of change and not more smoke and mirrors will stay skeptical of any hype. As far as I see into the future its just a name change on a door and desk plaque. I don't see any policy change let alone any real honesty going to happen. Mindark is only doing this out of embarrassment from everyone talking about how the Ateam handles things. They have their agenda and time and time again they have proven that the customers (aka the player base) does not fit into it in any way shape or form. If this new guy is for real he will come in and delete 90% of the crap that Jan Jr did while in charge of Calypso and start to get EU back on track to being a unique gaming experience and not some over priced cut and paste pile of poo from every other failed MMO it has become in the last two years.
I have to agree with Bill on the above comment of his .... I for one have become more unhappy with entropia .. all we see is ark dev team work there nuts off to get good content in game ..and we see Ma and caly team bring something in or run a event to counter act what the ark team are doing ... its as if they want to see planet partners to fail with the stunts and stuff they pull .. i have seen loot returns drop over the last 4 years to the point i have decided not to depo any more money in to the entropia universe ..i feel sorry for the ark team as it must feel like 95% of the time there peein in to the wind and getting it blown back all over them by ma .. and the thing is the player base all see this happening , just my 2p worth as i dont think things will change any with new management
Sorry this will be a wall of text since my work browser/proxy server does not get along with the forum interface. People shouldn't read too much into the CEO change. But the new guy says: "As CEO of MindArk, I will focus on improving our communication with participants and taking advantage of their valuable feedback to make Entropia Universe a more entertaining and engaging universe. A place where Entropians are eager to play, socialize, invest and entertain themselves. Toward that goal, MindArk will also prioritize improving the stability of the Entropia Universe client and platform, and delivering a quality product.” I have to say that improved communications and application stability would both be welcome changes that have no impact on cost to play, loot returns or those other issues that people love to be cyncial about.
They state they have done "Stability" work every VU for the past year. The only thing I have seen be stable in all that was the way money flows to MA and not distributed into the economy in a viable way. As far as communication they are not going to start talking about anything real regarding getting EU back outta the shitter. If they talk at all it will be self back patting and their shiny happy yet very skewed outlook on the actual state of the game. Getting the cost to play back in the stratosphere for the average player needs to be a priority. Not feeding all the high ped cycling gamblers off the raping the avg player has been taking since VU 10 and the change over to cryengine. Making up for all the market manipulation that has been done by the "Loot balancer" in this so called free market economy is also a priority to repair and get back into reality. Finally stopping the momentum of the nerf and patch crap that Jan Jr. has started with all that one upsmanship bullshit over the last two plus years. Other mmos fail because they get in that loop of making bigger and better crap only to nerf it for the next batch of bigger better crap. That's survivable in a game where real money isn't a factor. In here it will be the death knell for the entire universe if someone in power doesn't pull their head from their ass and take a real look around. Unless everyone is somehow excited to see puny mobs costing 200 dollars each to kill down the road that is a serious issue that needs addressing NOW.
I think you maybe haven't been playing much or something because TT returns are decent right now if you play eco. I challenge you to do a proper long term test if you don't believe this. The complaints come when people don't play eco or do very short runs/very big mobs... but that's not MA's fault. As for stability, sure we could use more optimizing and bug fixing but the game is stable, at least on my computers. Only about 50% of my overnight crafting runs complete without a disconnect but internet disruptions aren't really under MA's control. As I see it, the company needs to do a lot more in terms of making its customers happy, and the things the new CEO said are a good goal.
It Tells us that a lot of old school players possibly cant give up there guilty secrets and old habbits, But It also tells us that unique mobs are good to chase and also that players want more events ?. Also unfortunatly every event comes with periods of HOF's & Globals and that's what people love chasing that's half the fun of the game as well Its a real cash economy after all
Cant get much more eco then unamped non gambling known area farming runs. as far as returns.. well Im not the only one disenchanted for a long time now. As far as long term runs I been trackin shit for nearly 8 years now and I can tell you nearly to the minute when things are gonna go south to feed some high ped cycling avatar a present as well as when an event will be starting 24 hours in advance before any knowledge of it existing. I was on my way down to the abyss when that 80k ath went off. I found the guy standing next to the tower with a drill wondering how to extract his claim.... need I say more on THAT aspect of things. I think not. As far as YOUR success in game. Ill sit here quietly as I promised to behave here.
You guys are mistaking if you think that a fundamental change has taken place here. First of all, at MindArk, it's not the CEO who is really in charge, it's the Chairman and primary stock holder Jan Welter Timkrans. He is the guy running the show along with the board of directors, not the CEO. Now obviously the CEO has a voice in things but it's the Chairman who has the final say in things. David Simmonds, the previous CEO, was promoted to Vice Chairman of MindArk, and now has the new role of Calypso CEO. I've interacted with David Simmonds throughout the years on a range of topics, mostly security related, and from what I can tell, he is hands on and very capable. Calypso clearly remains as MindArk's primary avenue of income and I interpret this change as a renewed focus on the core of their company. Nothing more.
