One more thing I noticed. Tab completion, at least when I try to Tab complete an avatar name for whisper, only works when I'm in cursor mode. When I'm in aim mode, the list only flashes briefly and disappears

Currently there is no notification that the avatar you whisper to is set to afk, invisible, offline, or set to do not disturb. We need a message for that so you know if your message was seen or not (don't just put it in system, it needs to be seen wherever you are even if it's just a transient pop up).

I also recommend altering the PM window title like this: remove "(private chat)" because it's not necessary and put a status icon (online, offline, afk, do not disturb) on the left side of the avatar's name (again, just in the title of the PM window).

At the same time as that(good idea btw), change [Whisper] to [Private chat], [Private Message] or simply [PM] as to me that [whisper] don't make it clear it's private

    edit:
Yeap Neil, [PM] would be best short and informative is whats needed

I agree, but I would recommend [PM] since it's shorter.

I'd like to see the contacts list show up on top of other windows when you hit "J".

I agree, but I would recommend [PM] since it's shorter.

Also you could show the status icon when you hover the mouse over a name in chat.

probably because each one was designed by a different person over the years. We've still got the same loot window from who knows which vu, although at this point I think there would be a protest if they changed it.

EU certainly needs cleaning up and many designs simplifying to make the information stand out more as it is the most important part.

It's been 20 years since I did software ergonomics and it was all dos based software but you still need a consistent interface otherwise it overwhelms the users and leads to frustration if they don't work in the way they user expects such as the undeletable tutorial messages.

The two buttons that are now on the sides of the screen that maximise and minimise the two interfaces, everything else can be repositioned why not these as well. Why aren't they buttons on the chat window? Why have them at all as many of the other dialogs in EU can only be viewed with a key stroke.

Just realized an important one... I didn't notice it yet because it was also a problem in the old system and I didn't realize it could be different now :)

The System channel needs to be broken up into a few different channels:

    1) friends joined/left the universe messages (a great deal of spam)
    2) hunting/mining/crafting messages (damage, fail, evade, miss, item breaking, skillups... things you'd completely disable if you're doing an activity but want to chat)
    3) crtitical system messages (movement blocked, trade successful, errors, system going down, etc, i.e. important messages you almost always need to see)

#1 needs to be disabled in most tabs when you have a large FL, but #3 I would enable in most chats and during most activities, since I need those critical messages. I noticed how inadequate it is to have these messages all lumped together when I was trading. Because I have so many friends, I have to disable the system messages in all tabs, but then when I'm trading, I have my normal chat open but it's critical that I also see if the trade was successful or not.

Wouldn't it be an idea to change the default when you log in, from Rookie to:
    - A planet specific chat channel for each planet separately. Default set on the planet you spawn on.
    - And for new players/accounts up until a certain time (or until discipleship is finished), default set on the rookie channel.

If there is a big demand for an universal chat (which I'm still not convinced is following the EU premise), have it available in the options, but not set as default.

Changing the default setting like that, may prevent the biggest abuse/misuse (in particular for the real 'rookies').
And the unique EU environment might not start to feel like so many other MMO's?

I agree, putting newbies into a universal general chat channel is bad. It breaks the immersion of the game and I think promotes the understanding that it's a juvenile game and it's OK to act that way... the universal channels are dead useful but a general universal channel should not be the first thing a player sees, IMO.

Another issue I saw mentioned elsewhere... when opening a trade, please make the PM window open beside the trade window, not over top of it.

If you are going to change the UI in 2014, please please please make it skinable! Other MMO's have had skinable UIs for years.

with a skinable UI, players can make UI look like they want/are comfortable with. The oldies can have a "traditional look" if they like, the noobs can have "ultra modern" or whatever.

Graphically talented players (we have loads) can then create multiple skins people can download. Vetted ones could be checked and supplied on MA website. PPs could supply ones that fit the theme of their planets, etc.

if we are stuck with the current one, however, then i need cut n paste to work for shop sales in the message centre (currently you cannot cut n paste to a spreadsheet which i'd guess a lot of shop owners would want? I know i do, and could do in old system).

size/font/colour adjustment of the various windows would be useful for the different types of people (age/eyesight/colourblindness/etc)

please remove the FL and MC buttons (or at least make them moveable) as they muck up peoples current layouts and/or hide loot list.

if you are going to make a rookie channel globally available, then you MUST monitor and control it to stop arseholes turning away all your new customers...no business in their right mind would put someone with tourettes syndrome at their reception desk - and uncontrolled rookie channel is very similar in effect.

The chat UI looks and feels much better after the VU-patch. They did a good job and I get the feeling of that they listened to the feed-back from the community. WELL DONE MA!
(No, I was not paid to say that. I like giving fair feed-back.)

The UI is definitely a lot more useable now. I still prefer the cleanliness of the old UI, but MA did do a good job on improving this one. Albeit, there are still a few issues:

    - Friends list and message center often open scrolled all the way down;
    - Their tabs are still not moveable;
    - Message center tab doesn't always show notifications of new entries; and
    - HoF Ticker Filtering resets to 'None' after every login.

One thing that is annoying me to no end is the constant sound when a PM is sent or received. PLEASE remove this sound except for INCOMING PMs that are not ALREADY open in a private chat window. Anything sent from me should NOT make a sound, anything in a private chat window should NOT make a sound. Or I will go insane.

Also, custom channels are severely bugged... usually I do not have OP status on the channels I have created, so cannot invite anyone. Then periodically I'll get OP access for a short while before it goes back to bugged.

I agree with some of the things in here.
*It would be nice if Tutorial messages can be deleted.
*Since Globals and HOFs have their own message system (left hand side) we don't need the banner above chat. It's distracting.
*Friends list is always scrolled down.

I would like to see some sort of log of how many ammo is spent each session and/or the amount of ammo given from loot (not the value, it's almost always 0.00 PED for newbies like me). I have an Excel sheet that I have been tweaking since I started playing and recently realized that the only way to figure out how much ammo I spend and how much I get from loot is to keep track of how many shots I do each session and then do a crazy mathematical calculation to extract the data I need. Needless to say it takes away the fun of killing mobs.

You can figure out how many shots you do from the decay of your weapon/amp. For example, if you're using an SI scorpion to hunt carabok, you know that a fully repaired scorpion will last for 2015 shots or 167245 weapon cells (16.72 ped of ammo). Finding the exact decay on a melee weapon is easy since it all comes from the weapon TT and ammo is not a factor.
