Allright, like it or not, new interface is same as windows 8, we can like it or hate it, doesn't matter, it came to stay (I guess). So here's a few stuff I liked on the old interface I would like to keep, so I'm asking the experts if they already found it. -when you reach a new level of some profession, a green star used to poup up on chat botton to alert you about it. I rather have this way than the other, is it possible to enable this feature? -when someone wish to have a private chat you used to have a knocking door sound and a confirmation of it. Now I have a little bit of a problem. Someone whispered me today, I have a pc and a laptop, on my pc, just the sound like the one when you already is on a private chat, but no clue where the message gone. On my laptop, I get a number showing me the new message -and the most wanted feature of all others. Since I'm still a newbie, I kinda get used with the keyset 5, in there I used to have a little progress window showing my overall progress as I go. I was activated everytime when I log in the game by an arrow and now that button is missing (see pic bellow), is there a way to bring it back? View attachment 9167
There is a "Progress" button in the Action Library (page 39) that opens that Progress panel, put in on your desktop in place of that black thing. Or you can open the Progress panel by right clicking on screen > My Avatar > Progress. I always wanted that little non-removable black thing to go because I thought it clutters my screen - if I only knew what a mess of non-removable stuff my screen will become after the last VU
How I have worked that out is to have my whispers appear in a chat channel that I always use. I have two chat windows open... the main on top with system and rookie tabs, and my society tab on the bottom. My soc tab includes whispers, since I always have that tab open, and the whisper message color is very different from the color I have set for soc tab. The key is to set that whisper in a chat that's not crazy busy, like the Rookie channel. Or, as someone said, set a separate whisper tab. It will blink yellow and stay that color if you have a new message, until you go to that tab.
Ty for all help, I solved all issues, since the green star is showing as a message on message center, now they could add more colors to chat names or give us the ability to type hexa values to change manually.
Something that I still haven't figured out: how do you put multiple channels on a single tab? (Not the ones that are available by default btw.) For example: previously, for trades you just looked at the chat window and AH. Now there is a way to separate all chat, and while that makes specialization easier, for the casual trader, or average player it requires a lot more checking. In these few days I've already seen for trading: the standard #Trade, #Traders, #ArkTrade, people spamming sales on #Rookie, on Local chat, (and ofc AH). So how do you merge all those channels into a single channel tab called 'trade'? Or do you really have to have every single channel in a separate tab? That can't be the intention: I presume there is an option somewhere to merge custom channels into one tab? Otherwise my playing screen will get even smaller, and it will take even more time to be able to follow all these tabs. And this is just for trade: I'll probably end up needing multiple channels for each of the other aspects of the game, like Hunting, Mining, Crafting, Space transport, Events, Soc, Teaming, and ofc for each separate Planet. So can anyone share how they manage the cascade of channels?
if you want multiple channels other than defaults you have first to join 'em and then you must open a new tab. Right clicking on new tab and you can see now listed the channels you already joined and just check every channel you like to see in that new tab. You can renamed (as I did) "my channels" or something to join at a new channel the command it is: /join #channel name
Thanks for answering: I think my mistake was not to make a new tab, but expecting they could be added on existing ones. (Tried the /listchannels but getting Error: Invalid arguments to command. Try /help When trying to join several channels with /join #channel name, I get Error: Channel not found.) But I am a bit slow atm: attempting to figure it out with a splitting headache is probably not helping my comprehension skills. I think I'll just wait until the patch: hopefully by then it will be easier to read, so I'll be able to figure this out with a clear head. (Chances are the channels will be tinkered with anyway.)
All the user created channels will be wiped with this next VU, so people will have to remake those channels anyway. I wouldn't stress too much about user created channels atm, May. However, to list channels, you have to give it some input... so /listchannels will give and error, but try /listchannels ark and that will give you a list of channels that contain the letters ARK in that order (there are 5). When that list pops up, and you want to join one of those channels, just right-click the channel name in the chat window and select join.
Why do you think that? No matter how deep changes they'll make, I see no problems in saving and restoring all the channels info. Unless they'll roll back to the old system . And unless you've read something somewhere.
Think of how many channels that have been created just to see how to create a channel. It will probably be a regular occurrence to wipe channels without activity, otherwise the /listchannels will take ages and we'll be getting hundreds of similarly named channels clogging up the system. I wouldn't be surprised to see limits on how many channels a player can create.
Afaik, a channel gets destroyed once the last member leaves it or logs out. Read it "somewhere" too and not in game currently to test. EDIT: tested and confirmed.
Ah, that sounds so logical, it's worthy of a self depreciation facepalm View attachment 9176 (though I experienced that is not advisable if a headache is present). I just was thinking it would become kinda quiet on the local chat if everyone was on custom channels. Especially non profession based channels, like the language ones, I can imagine being populated continuously. So I figured I should join some channels if I didn't wanted to end up talking to myself. But yeah, I'll just leave it until the next patch: by then I should be able to rub two braincells together.
