What is supposed to happen at the digs ?

I am unclear as to what the digs are for or is that something that will become clear in a later update ?

 

maybe we can do treasure hunting there once we get the option and its not grayed out anymore...
Then again I didn´t even see ruins at the digs to be fair???... I am not sure... maybe they are just creative names for teleporters.

 

The ruins are south of the southwest most digsite in the desert.

 

Sunset at the ruins, fairly quiet there.
