Yeah, I tried entropia out years ago and I decided to take another look. But, all the forums seem abandoned and I haven't seen one in game person. Is there even a reason to keep this game installed?...
This forum focuses on Arkadia. http://www.planetcalypsoforum.com is the forum for Calypso, the most active planet - though I prefer Arkadia. I see lots of people & have an active contact list. There's lots of missions on the planets. Relatively new are mining missions, if that's your preferred occupation. Caly seems to have constant events. Arkadia has just finished one. Planet Cyrene is still young but an interesting place to visit. Next Island is dead. Rocktropia is in trouble. Monria is a very new moon with a Cthulu them. Planet Toulon is due to launch er sometime soonish we hope. So I guess the question is how would you like to spend your time?
I would mostly like to spend my time trying my hand at mining and sweat gathering. I don't know if mining is a valid choice at the beginning since probes do cost money and you might not always find enough to even continue the mining process. Is there a good planet to start on for a decent sweat gathering place as well as mining? Also, is there anyway for a new player to switch planets, or do I just have to make a new account or something? I'd be fine on Arkadia since it says it's more focused on treasure hunting, but solo sweat gathering is hard I hear, and I don't know where to do it...
You can get a lift from planet to planet on a spaceship. You might have to pay a little but some people will fly new players for free. On Caly I think sweat rings tend to be at Nea's Place but there might be something going on up around Cape Corinth as that has been repurposed as a new player area. On Arkadia, sweat groups tackle the Nusul at Celeste Outpost. If you are interested in mining then perhaps start with a rookie finder. Probe requirements are significantly lower. On Arkadia, Neil Stockton hires\bankrolls miners and if he has a vacancy that's a good way to skill up and learn where to find good MU resources. Also you can get mining missions at Celeste Quarry. Someone their can direct you to the broker. Treasure hunting is an expensive form of mining. Possibly not for people on low budgets. Regards, KikkiJikki
Arkadia is very much alive. If you want to sweat solo, try the carabok (more difficult, more skills) or the gallard (easier, less skills), you can find carabok west of Celeste Quarry (31189,9527) and gallard at Celeste Outpost (27269,10919). If you haven't seen many players in game, I'll assume you don't have these TPs. Mining on Arkadia is not bad for new players, but you should have a significant ped balance in order to do it right. I run Greenleaf Mining Company, which lowers the required investment to 200 peds and provides training, which you might be interested in. As for traveling between planets, you can find a free (donation-based) service, entropiatransport.com that has a ship between arkadia and calypso every day (there are other pilot services available as well). However, I would recommend you explore Arkadia first, it's a great place to start.
Well, I'm interested in anything that will get me started on mining. As far as sweating goes, I suppose I'll just try solo at those areas. If I remember correctly, I'm suppose to do it naked so armor doesn't get damaged. Something like that. Sweating guides, here I come. But yeah, if there's a way to break into mining easier than going at it alone, I'd be up for it...
It might seem less busy because the universe got bigger. Be aware that mining has probably changed a good bit since you did it last. You can wear armor when mining, just don't do it around mobs if you don't want to pay for decay. There are areas where you can focus on mining that have few/no mobs.
If solo sweating is your thing... Medusa Head on Planet Calypso is probably the place to go as the chripies there don't attack you. They just run to a corner on the wall where you can 'trap' them against the wall with your avatar. Yes, trapping isn't really a good thing to do, but they created that place like that solely for this activity I believe, so it's not such a bad thing. You won't get evade skills much, but you will get sweat a while. Don't do this non-stop for hours on end though since the chirpie population is not very large spawn... if you do swunt them by killing them after sweating them dry, it's not so bad since they'll respawn, but if you just sweat them dry and don't kill them, that's a bit of a problem since it leaves all these birds hanging against a wall. Loot on chirpies is not that great, but for very low damage weapon skilling it's not that bad of a location. Not sure if there's any place like that on Arkadia, where there's lots of chirpies but maybe there is and I'm just not aware of it yet. I'm still waiting for Arkadia to install some mobs similar to the Rocktropian's and trolls on RT, which have fewer than 10 hp each for nice low damage weapon skilling... would be really great if they came with a special little bp like the RT ones do where the bp just requires one ingredient and it's one that these little guys drop (rocktropian records for the creative juice bp). Maybe since I am making this suggestion, and constantly buying up more and more akadian underground deeds they can throw these new little guys in by the starter tp down there. Also, if you haven't done the starter mission on Arkadia yet, do it. Near the end you get a frew freebie probes to drop. As far as advanced mining goes, be prepared to deposit big as bigger bankrolls will help you for a while possibly.
Most people solo sweat carabok or gallard. Lower hp mobs will give you huge amounts of overkill, and carabok at 10 hp do great for weapon skilling, I don't really see why you would need smaller mobs.
try hunting with a viper whip sometime. It does 2-3 damage most of the time and 4 or 5 on critical. However, THE reason for hunting small stuff is to skill with low damage weapons and make more kills as more kills = more (s)kill bonus so your skills go up a lot faster in some ways... and it makes it seem like you are accomplishing more, even if you are not really since you are able to kill a lot more mobs than you otherwise would... lower costs per hour = good thing for folks on a budget.
More and more now group sweating of Nusuls is happening at Celeste Outpost. That is also an alternative when gathering the most sweat you can get for the time spent is more of a priority than a particular skilling regime. A philanthropic group of EU enthusiasts has recently begun holding "sweat events" a few times per week as well, where they have been providing free healing for sweaters and purchasing sweat from players (for 2 ped/k i believe it is) to give new players a chance to easily sell a K of sweat while they figure out other avenues. PFC is also sponsoring free hunts on Arkadia now which is an awesome introduction to team hunting for many new players and since they provide free guns, a bit of ammo and a lot of fun it can actually be a ped or two boost for new players on a budget. check out pfc-hunt.webs.com for more information.
Uhm, since these are intended to be tips for starters: rookie and TT weapons are most likely the only ones available to them. Non-overkill weapons like a Viper Whip are not really accessible to them? So adding lower than 10 hp mobs at the starter TP, doesn't seem very beneficial to them, but mainly to established players? Looking at the lowest TT weapons; I agree with other posts, that Caraboks and Gallards are the best practical options for solo sweating/swunting. In terms of combined sweat and skill gain. (Seeing that the OP is on Ark.) And I've seen quite a few mentors send their disciples to Arkadia, because it turns out to be a very optimized place to skill for graduation. In other words: no Chirpies here, but better alternatives (spawn/skillgain/loot wise). Useful links collected for convenience: Entropedia - Wikipedia for EU.
