Hey everyone, I'm going to ask some very noob questions, but first of all I wanted to say.. I haven't ever played any games like Entropia Universe, I played some of Second Life but barely got into it. I'm not sure what are the aims in these types of games, like in normal MMORPG it's about leveling up etc. On Planet Arkadia, can you guys please give me an idea of what I should be doing? Maybe how to make money? What quests to follow for rpg experience? I'm very lost at the moment  Thank you very much if you do give me ideas of how to get into the game!
Hi Karique, Entropria is a sandbox virtual environment with a real cash economy. That means: - do whatever you like. Different players have different goals. - there is a fixed exchange rate between the US dollar and the PED, and you can both deposit and withdraw money While it is possible it play for free or even to profit, the reality is most people who keep playing end up depositing cash. The best rated guide was written by Alice from The Rising Potentials society. It is well worth reading I would suggest: - take the time to read Alice's guide. It will help you understand important concepts as well as the basics of the main professions. - do the new starter missions, you will learn about Arkadia and get some free starter gear. - do some mob sweating until you cant stand it any more. You will gain skills from sweating, including defensive skills. You will meet people - this is a social game - and get to ask them questions. You may be able to sell the sweat for a few peds. A good place to sweat is at Celeste Outpost. - get yourself a mentor. There is a mentor register here in the forum. You will get access to an experienced player who can offer you practical advice. You will get to try the three main professions and get a feel for whether you enjoy one more than the others. At completion you are awarded a very nice set of armour. -consider joining a society. More people to talk with is good from a social point of view and also in terms having access to people with useful knowledge and experience. Skilling up is slow but at the end of the day is heavily dependent on the amount of PEDS you cycle. I am around level 60 in my main combat profession after about 2.5 years of playing but I know many who have played for longer and are not quite at that level yet. Higher lvls give you more options in terms or gear that you can use efficiently (read about "eco"). You can play efficiently at any level. If\when you start depositing, set yourself a budget. It's very easy to spend far too much. People play with all sorts of budgets ranging from no deposit to 15-20 USD per month to 1000s of dollars per month. I hope that's enough to get you started. Please ask questions, read lots. There are guides in this forum and also over at PCF which is the main forum for the biggest planet. In the game there are volunteers called Arkadia Advisors that are recognisable by the vests they wear. There will usually be one at Celeste Quarry, depending on the time of day. And did I mention get yourself a good mentor? Regards, KikkiJikki
Hi Kari, and welcome to EU and Arkadia! Kikki covered most of the important points. It's not that much indifferent than second life, in that it's open-ended. However, to give you something to do, there are linear missions you can accomplish that don't cost you anything (and actually give you a few small assets). I recommend doing all the new arrival missions. What you do really does depend on what aspect of these virtual worlds appeals to you. Entropia offers a facet for every niche. There's plenty to explore (5 planets and space afterall). Plenty of people that will happily socialize with you. Plenty of ways (although tedious) to play for free or slowly make small amounts of currency (PED). A wealth of reference material at Entropedia.info wiki And of course each planet's forums are invaluable sources for guides and ideas So, whatever path you take, there should be ample opportunities to fulfill your desires. Good luck!
Well I think Kikki and Puck covered pretty much all there is on the information level for a beginner. The only thing left to add is: Welcome to the game and most importantly: Have Fun It's easy to loose that aspect of the game since real money is involved, but it is a game after all, so the important thing is to enjoy yourself. Cheers! -Wolf
Thank you very much everyone! The information is very helpful, thanks heaps. Please add me as a friend in-game ^_^ My avatar's name is Kari xXx Lux
A few other random thoughts.... Take some time to explore the world(s). Lots to see. Back in the day (before vehicles) it used to be a challenge to visit all the teleport stations. This days you can usually get a lift but just picking a direction and going for a run can be fun. Dont be afraid to die. You'll just end up at a revive point with all your gear. (except for lootable pvp - there are no lootable pvp zones on Arkadia). The only downside is, if you were part way through killing a mob then it will heal up and you might find you have wasted ammo and weapon decay for no gain. Don't be in a hurry to don armour. You dont need it for the low level mobs and it just adds to your costs.
Thanks! I also found it I get killed by Halix's so easily.. I can never kill one. Is there anyway I can actually manage to finally kill one?
Halix Youngs have 30 hps, thats a lot of hits from the TT weapons. And they do 6 to 12 pts of damage to you per hit. And the higher maturities only get tougher. Suggest you start with hunting carabok. Only 10 hp and only 1.5 to 3 damage per attack makes them much more manageable for a starting player. Another useful resource is Entropedia. It is a player maintained Wiki that includes mob and item stats, useful tools, mission info etc.
I didn't even know that , I guess when you mostly hunt mobs with 1k-3k hp that can hit 100-200 dmg in crits you kinda forget what its like for a new player. A big welcome from me as well feel free to add me ingame (Mordrell Baas WHAT) if you need any advice with hunting and some mining ... if you want crafting advice I cant help you much
Hi Karique. When you start, your profession levels are at zero. Profession levels determine how well you do certain things in game like use a weapon or evade a mob's attacks. As KikkiJikki said, focus on the carabok or the gallard for now. But as you play, you will gain skills which will raise your profession levels. Before you know it, you'll be at level 5 and will have "maxed" your TT (trade terminal) weapon. You'll find that the weapon will work much better (faster and more damage per shot) allowing you to dispatch halix young with ease. As your evader level increases, the mob will hit you less often, also making things easier for you. You could get around that natural skilling process by buying armor or buying a big, inefficient gun or by chipping in skills. But that is not a good idea for new players. Slow and steady is the best (and cheapest) way to move up in EU.
I can't think of anything to add to what they've already said, but welcome to the planet. There are usually very helpful people around in game, too. Most of us hang out around Celeste Quarry when we're not doing anything else. The Arkadia Advisers are definitely knowledgeable and helpful, but there are others who are just as helpful and know a lot. When I was new, I was able to find a lot of people all around the game willing to help. I feel this planet has the most helpful community. Don't be afraid to ask around for help when you need it any time.
Thank you everyone, you guys seem like such a nice community! Too many MMORPG have a bad community full of trolls I really appreciate all of your advice!
I've noticed that about most games. There are plenty of rude trolls and the like in this game as well, but it's easier to find the ones that are helpful around here.
you are very smart to ask questions on this forum and get great answers from helpful players, always watch for scammers that want to take advantage of new players. Arkadia is imo the best planet for many reasons including helpful ppl. my suggestion is to add ppl u trust on your friends list, and if a stranger wants to help u or offer a great deal, PM a friend before going ahead. kinda a bummer thing to mention, but like in real life there are crappy ppl out there and real cash economy attracts some ppl like that. i spoke to one new player just 2 days ago at the quarry, totally new and made her first $30 deposit, she asked for help to get to Caly(it was very quiet that timezone so only a few ppl at the quarry), anyhow a helpful player said he would buy her a spaceship if she gave him her 300 PED, she did not know anything of auction, taxi, mothership, TT, spaceflight, nothing. Of course the helpful person took her 300 PED and left. She could not remember his name except that he sounded polish, otherwise i would hunt this turd down, but i explained it was a very harsh lesson, and 99% of ppl are helpful, and if she happened on a good person or was refered to this or any Entropia forum, she would have learned many survival skills. i appoligized for her bad experience but she took it as a learning experience. sry for the long winded post but i think u are very smart to ask for advice, and after a week u will recognize the many good ppl, including those posted above, at the quarry who will help u out glady. good luck in all your adventures and welcome to Arkadia
