    Hi all

I voted yes for the forum mods .. it wouldn't make me post any more than i do now just to get a few extra points .but would be just good to allow them to mount up over time .. and allow me to have a nice forum name or achievement pic on my profile ..

with the good people of the forum and general quality of this forum i don't think we would see the system abused by most of the ark forum users..
I am one of them that reads a lot and only posts if i have something to say.

plus im sure if it was seen that people were abusing any point system that was incorporated snape and the other mods would be soon swinging the hammer

in all fairness we don't suffer from trolls on the ark forum so i do think it could work .. remember guys this is the ark forum not pcf we have very good quality here and that's why i like it .

    regards

I want to like the idea and earn points and get interest and do all the fun stuff, but Smoerble's point stands.

Rick had an interesting thought too, about the forum being more mature and so perhaps it wouldn't be as much of a problem as it might be on other forums.

That got me thinking though: what if the forum is more mature at least partly BECAUSE we don't have a points system?

Overall, it sounds like we might be better off without a points system, or if one is introduced, to somehow make it have nothing to do with posting or repping. Lol.

My post was aimed at all players Smoerble ..Not just a select few .. I was just saying that I personally would allow mine to accumulate over time and that it wouldn't make me post more just to get them faster..

hope this clears that bit up :)

    regards

I voted yes, even with all the issues posted that it encourages spam or leads to unwanted rep'ing etc. it could all be handled with counter actions that are required in order to get points so it would make it worthless to just spam or rep everything. Example if you rep someone it has to have a comment and if that person reps back then and only then would you gain a point. Posts need to acquire a thumbs up form people with high ratings on the forum in order to get points etc. This would mean spam and blasting pointless reputation around gets nothing.

I would love to see the helpful and willing people get points only and for their work and dedication on making a clean and helpful forum they get some extra credit that lets them stand apart. But I do agree if points do get implemented it needs to be done in a way that malicious people out to abuse the point system do not get anything.

I voted I'm a walrus as I didnt know what to say at the time.. I'll say it like this.. If done properly so this wont end up like a forum for 13-y-o WoW players, then yes..

Lets see what Van can come up with.. He could implement it, then give it 2 weeks, and then make another thread where we can voice our thoughts on how its working.. Cause honestly - It's hard to just say "hell no" when we havent seen how it works for us.. Cause we cannot ignore the fact that PAF is a special forum with special ppl.. Who knows.. Van might actually come up with a kick ass solution that fits us perfect - Lets try and see.. If it goes totally teenager-like, he can always turn it back off..

    my 5 pec..

I can only agree with what zume says lets try it and see what Van can come up with altho i do feel 2 weeks may not be enough to test pilot a new system introduction i would say a month ...

would give us all a better picture on how things are working and for Van and the other forum mods to see how things are coming along..

to see how things are working... (reminds me of all the "test" things rl that never ever goes away)

Remember this system should probably be here when Ark forum is larger then PCF and what happens then...

Jenny.. Try something new.. Be positive.. I am 100% sure that if it was done as I proposed (maybe with a month's trial like Mel suggested), and a poll then showed it was crappy for the forum, Van would turn it off without hesitating.. Van wants whats best for the forum.. ;)

It would be way too much work to implement stuff like this just for one or two months. With the same effort he could definately do more important/cool things that are permanent.

It's quite easy to turn a mod off if it's no good... it's the setting up and tweaking that takes a little bit of time.

From the poll results so far it looks like we're tied for a yes and a no... so i'm going to leave it for a little while and look at some options.

Thanks everyone for your awesome input.

I agree lets try it out.

True it takes time and effort to make something and just see it tossed away but heck that happens to 80% of the stuff any corporation invents, only about 20% of a companys product inventions ever hit commercial use.

I have wrote so much software that will never be used, it is so frustrating because some of it I worked so dang hard on and it is pretty cool stuff. But company's I work with just don't see that final tweaking, legal costs ect would not justify sales so it was all canned and put on the shelf.

Every once in awhile I see some other team pull my project out of the catacombs and work on it for a bit just to see it shelved again and them get frustrated because they want to see it out there also. But thats the way the world works, build it, test it , review it, weight it's impact, and if it makes money produce it if not toss it in hole and forget about it for a few years, dig it back up look at it again if still not worthy, toss it back in the hole.

    Hi,

another walrus here. I can't decide.

While I have a lot of trust in Vantastic and while I'm sure he'd do it well, Smoerble has an undeniable point.

    Have a good time!
