Hey fellows. I don't know if this is a good place to start but I just want to discuss the role of media in a society. As you can see how with the help of media people of Egypt, and Libya revolted, not only that how frequent and consciously people are discussing about the current political situations in many countries along with USA. By this way they can also be helpful to improve the education sector specially the public education sector. Do you guys think the same, would like to check out your opinion.
All media serves two basic purposes. 1) To give the mob the information you want them to have. 2) To distract the mob from the information you DON'T want them to have. All you have to do is look at the current state of the media in the US (or any country really) to see this. We have 5-8 major political scandals that simply are no longer news worthy. They haven't been dealt with, but due to the lack of mob attention, nothing is being done about them...they aren't in the public eye anymore. Instead we get fluff pop culture stuff...shootings and other things that are more "train wreck attention getting" and the like which serve to DISTRACT the mob FROM those investigations and scandals. We get flooded with the Syrian conflict and the Egyptian one gets pushed down farther and farther until it will fall off the news. Iraq and Afghanistan already have and the war in the Southern Philippines and SE Asia that is spreading gets 0 news and thus, most ppl not near by these wars simply don't know anything about it. In Ancient Rome, it was told to the emperors that "control the mob and you rule Rome. Lose the mob and lose your head." Its been centuries and nothing has changed. Media is simply more widespread now and ppl still believe everything they read at face value for the most part without doing much investigation on their own despite the internet being widely available. An example recently of this was the report that Jackie Chan fell 12 stories to his death. It swept the internet and media by storm...it went viral...until Jackie Chan himself stood with a newpaper with a day to show he wasn't dead the next day and even THAT only slowed it down...its still getting circulated even being MONTHS old. So it boils down to the 2 points I listen above...and that goes for individual person with a cause, or governmental person(s) with an agenda.
As according to my understanding, the role of media in our society is to bring awareness to our society. The media wields great power but it should be noted, with great power comes great responsibility. The media is a very important instrument of change provided it behaves in a responsible and objective manner.
As according to the current stats Search algorithm changes on a regular basis and it is generally hard to sustain. Though, you should always keep in mind that a link is classed as a vote in search engine's eyes, and it appears that it's changing that way for social media as well. Every time somebody tweets your post, share or likes it, in significance they are appreciating your content and telling people to realize it. In this way Social media act as the most recent trend within the search engine optimization space. Have a look to this link.
The Media stopped being relevant when corporations took over. The only things you get to hear about are things that are dictated to those corporations. Social Media on the other hand is full of information but usually not worth the time and effort it takes to sort out who's baby farted or who's grandmother got new chewin teeth. We don't have to discuss the privacy issues that are infiltrating that now days.
