Okay, this will be a "New player impression" for new players. Please feel free to comment and add to the thread but understand, I am a new player still (even though many seem to think I have been here 10+ years) heh.

    ***

So this is Entropia Universe. Nice...now what do I do Sim?

First thing...DO THE NEW PLAYER MISSIONS on the planet you start on. Follow them and do them. They will get you some familiarity with the gear, a decent vehicle with a little fuel for it (and if you don't bash the thing up it will last) and some idea whether you want to hang around in the sandbox or not.

DO NOT think of EU as "just another MMO"...it...is...NOT...

You are not going to shoot up the ladder to the top quickly, you are not going to see mountains of peds flowing to you card..ever...unless you put a ton of real life money into the game and then you will learn how to make a small fortune...

Out of a big one....hint hint...(I mean you will go broke fast folks)

Second thing...TALK and LISTEN to the older players...learn the ins and outs...DO NOT START CRAFTING right away..its a ped sink to start learning to craft and what you can make is going to be junk more or less because it is, after all, something everyone can craft.

Third thing....ped earning....ped runs the game...you need ped to do just about anything...here is the "Fat Dwarf"'s opinion on how to make ped...

Point 1: Entropia Partners site - (PM me for link, won't post due to forum rules)

This is a nice site that really does give you some ped for little effort. I run in windowed mode and do the videos and the 1 min timer game and earn about 15 ped a month while playing. You will NOT get rich doing it but it gives you a little ped to play with you otherwise won't have. They also will buy up to 4k sweat at 2ped per 1k if you can catch one of them on if you are on CALY (ONLY) as of this posting.

    Point 2: Sweating -

Sweating is going to be hands down the "best" way to make ped starting out. You need to either sweat a small critter (Puny for instance) or find a sweat group at one of the "sweat group TPs" on your planet. For the most part, this is going to be Nea's or OLA42 on Caly or the Celeste Outpost on Ark.

Sweat Groups also are a good way to get to know other players, especially that are around your capabilities. Learn to do the group right, meaning you stand in a circle around a large mob, with no armor on, and sweat it with others so the mob doesn't just hit one of you and kill you quickly. This allows you to be disrupted less, get more sweat and if you die, you are near the revival terminal close to the mob and can head back quickly and lose nothing.

FAIR PRICE ON SWEAT is from a low of 1.5ped per 1000 to a high of 2.5ped per 1000 at the time of this posting.

The higher the price you want, the longer you are going to stand around waiting for a buyer and the less you are going to be able to sweat. Sweating gives you one very useful skill...evade...as well as a few others. Don't discount this at all.

Point 3: Oil Rigs and other spawns

From time to time, plants, rocks and dung can spawn near you...its a planet freebie normally worth 0 TT but, keep enough of them and you might be able to sell it for something and after all, its 100% free.

Oil Rigs however are a whole other animal.

Oil rigs spit out crude oil in various quantities. The one on Arkadia is not working (yet) at time of this posting but all such rigs are in PvP territory (meaning you can and probably will get killed there) but will spit out a decent amount of ped.

For my example I will use the small rig just north of Camp Icarus on Caly.

it spits out .40-.60 Ped in crude oil every 2-20 min. Sounds great right? Well, don't get too happy. There is normally a "line" that forms and each person waits their turn to get their free ped. And as I mentioned, people do kill you there from time to time. Good news is that at this rig, its not a LOOTABLE PvP..meaning they can't loot anything off you, just send you away till you can get back.

This is NOT the case for ALL RIGS!!!!

Check and see if you are in a LOOTABLE PVP area and if so...understand all your hard work may profit someone else as OIL and CRUDE OIL are lootable.
    "FAT DWARF TIP"

If you have your Newbie vehicle...carry a refiner with you to refine the crude and put it in your car. It can always be extracted later to sell and if its in the car...it can't be looted!!!

    Point 4: Trading

You can, once you get a little ped under your belt, try your hand at trading. I personally LOVE trading. Its what I do and I do it well. I RARELY use the Auction house for much because the Auction CHARGES A FEE that you pay UP FRONT whether you sell the item or not. The MINIMUM FEE is .50 ped (half a ped)...meaning if you have an item you can sell for 1 ped that has a TT value of .50 ped and you list it for 1 ped on the auction to sell it...you just lost .50 ped.

    How?

You will have to pay .50 ped just to list it. Now, even if you sell it for 1ped like expected, you paid the entire "profit" to the auction house. You could have sold it to the Trade Terminal for .50 ped after all and you paid .50 ped to put it on the Auction. You could have simply sold it directly to a player for the 1ped and pocketed the .50 ped.

This of course will take time to find a buyer.

NEVER SELL TO THE TRADE TERMINAL UNLESS YOU REALLY NEED THE PED!!!

TT is the absolute MINIMUM you can get. Most things you can sell eventually for 101% MU (Mark Up) but realistically, if its got a mark up of 105% or less..you will see little demand on it and have to wait a LONG time to sell it. So if you have to TT stuff..start with the 101s and move up.

And one thing I see alot of....don't EVER put up an auction for a 100% TT value. Meaning if the item is worth 50 ped TT value...don't put it up for 50 ped first bid. You are losing money because of the fee. And if someone is going to bid on it, they will bid for a 1 ped markup or you really shouldn't be listing the thing(s) on the auction in the first place.

Now that you have some ped in your pocket...let's talk about what to do with those precious little pecs....

    Hunting

Oh boy, time to go kill things! Let's go Sim!

Ah..whoa there buckaroo...let's set some ground rules and tell you some hard realities...

Hunting requires a weapon that will decay and ammo if you use a ranged weapon. Melee does NOT require ammo but decays faster.

Hunts normally return skills + 50% on up on the amount of ped you burn. You may turn a profit but more then likely, you are going to have roughly a 10% loss in the ped department. I have had a 45% loss and I have cleared a fat 120% profit once..but I have had far more losses to gains I assure you. This is BY DESIGN...

So how to get the best bang for the ped then?

Hunt just one type of critter. Use a very economical weapon (can be found at Entropia Info again, PM me for link). Set a budget and don't go beyond that budget no matter how much fun you are having even if you are really getting a nice profit. Remember, that "just one more critter" can turn that nice profit into a nasty loss because we all know its not "just one more" it is normally "Whaa..the sun is coming up..oh crap!" heh

Keep track of your losses and gains too on a notepad file and remember that you can sell BLP/Weapon Cells at TT value and convert them to the kind of ammo you use. Explosive rounds are a 101% MU for large quantities so, if you want to save them you can but, at the same time you can convert them to useful ammo if you are not using them.

The TT weapons are DECENT weapons to use. Get one with an SIB also. These are not the "best weapons" by any means but they are decent to start with.

A (L) item will eventually wear out and be junk...can't be repaired. A non (L) weapon can. However, the (L) weapons have a MUCH HIGHER DURABILITY and decay MUCH SLOWER and they Tier up for free so over the very long haul, they are better to use. But, you have to find a replacement for sale of them where as all you need to do to repair a non (L) weapon is fine a repair terminal.

There are certain weapons I recommend because they are very eco and do not "overkill" a critter much. Overkill is when a critter has little life left and the weapon uses a full shot of ammo to kill it.

Example: You have a puny with 1 hp left and you shoot it for 12 damage...you "overkilled" it by 11 damage and all the ammo it took to generate that damage. When you could have used a far less costly shot to do the 1 damage needed.

Might not seem important but it does come out to save you alot of ped in the long run believe me.

    The "Fat Dwarf"'s recommended list:

Rubio (L) (laser rifle), Azuro (L) (laser rifle), SI Scorpion (laser pistol), SI HK110 (laser rifle), ASI TT R (blp pistol), Herman ARK TT R (blp rifle).

There are a few others that are decent also that come from Trade Terminals on Caly and Ark or loots in the game. But these are good, solid eco guns.

    For Melee I recommend:

SI Combat Knife, SI Psy-Blade, SI Psy-Sword

Please remember that melee will decay faster then the ranged weapons but, you gain strength and HP using them and you won't with ranged weapons. So there is a valid reason to use them.

Focus on ONE TYPE of ranged weapon and ONE Melee weapon (if you want to do melee at all) and stick with it.

    Mining

Learn the ores and ematters you have on your planet. Where they are and how deep you need to go to find them. Then use the most eco scanner/extractor/refiner you can.

My personal recommendation (and the Rookie Miner kit I use myself) is:

Rookie Terramaster, Rookie Extractor, PT Refiner

All are found on ARKADIA TRADE TERMINAL for about 4 ped TT value.

Pay attention to the scanner you are using as the number of probes it eats up can really break you fast. This one used the minimum of 2 probes. And I search for ORE and EMATTER every drop so it will eat more then the 2 probes.

Remember that REFINED ingots and oil sell for more normally then unrefined but, your refiner will decay. Take that into account.

    Manufacturing

I would NOT recommend manufacturing in the beginning. Its a ped sink hole at the start because it takes alot to skill up to things that are useful to other people. However, don't lose heart...the Fat Dwarf has learned a little secret and will pass it along to you....

The most economical way to "skill" your Manufacturing skills is....

    To repair on a starship.

Yeah..that is right....grab your RK-5 and 50k-51k Welding wire and hit a starship. Then repair the repair points and gain skill in all the wonderful crafting skills as well as your Vehicle repair skills.

Now, first note...NEVER PAY TO REPAIR ON A SHIP....some ship owners will want to charge you for the "priviledge" of repairing their ship....ahuh...pass....

Its a waste of your ped you can otherwise use to skill.

Instead, come to a ship like my own Starfinder XIV where you can repair for free provided you follow a few simple rules.

Its also nice if you buy the RK-5 and 50k welding wire from the ship (runs 20ped or so give or take a ped or two) as a "thank you" for them letting you repair for free rather then charging you.

An RK-5 is an (L) item and welding wire is consumed on use. They run about 20-22 ped for a set and 50k-51k of wire is a full TT RK-5.

You can repair for hours on a starship and never have to leave the safety of the Space Station. Just understand 2 important things.

    1) You are going to get NOTHING BACK BUT SKILL when you do this. The ped you put in is gone with 0% return other then the skills you gain.

    2) You are on a starship. At a Space Station. That you have NO CONTROL OVER. Space..its LOOTABLE PVP...Space Station Space is NOT.

If the owner or a authorized pilot decides to take the starship out into lootable space and you are on it...you are now in lootable PvP. So make VERY SURE about the reputation of the starship you decide to go on to skill.

AND NEVER TAKE LOOTABLES INTO SPACE!!!

Lootables are anything on the MATERIAL or RESOURCE tabs.

    Last note....HAVE FUN!

This is a SOCIAL GAME....talk to people...learn, ask advice..but be polite and civil...accept you are learning and will keep learning for a very long time. Just the other day I had a player friend of mine that just "learned something" that has been in the game for over 10 REAL YEARS....

Now think about that...10 real years...a decade..of playing this game...and something new was just found.

THAT is what you are here for people....

And for the record...the absolute best way to get ped?

    Really...you want to know?

    You suuuure?

    Ready?

Get a real life job and deposit...sorry, but it is the best.

Not a problem, I left out the "get a mentor" unfortunately but its a HUGE boon to get a good mentor. The best ones (like mine, Neil) seem to stay full up with disciples.

I'm looking forward to my 6th month passing so I can start accepting disciples myself..heh.
