    Hello all,

New player here, sorta confused. not so much to game mechanics, but to what I really need to be doing. I started following a questline taking ore somewhere. I rushed through this to determine if I may like the game. I really like the detailed and realistic aspects. I will recreate my character (start over) so i can put the attention to detail I should have from the start. Once I am on my way, do I just follow this quest line or what? The quest seemed to get myself armor, a weapon, etc. I am hoping this game is like a "hobby" My goal is to play for fun, have fun and feel like my character has meaning in the universe. I have no intentions to use this as a social chat box. I want to kill stuff, and explore. Is it possible to survive without dumping real life money into this game constantly? Are their sandbox things to do to feel "alive?" as an example, maybe someone hires you to fly them to another planet, or go get a resource, or help them kill something, stand guard, etc.

I could use some good starter tips too. I really like rifles, is this viable to use/ what type or is it all preference? any recommended societies out there for casual players? I can't let this game consume me either. gaming is a hobby I particiapte in during my free time (wife + 4 kids = not much free time)..........so any advice from the PROs is appreciated, and I look forward to getting in there. One more thing, does it cost an arm and a leg to travel between planets?

    Thanks

    Welcome Warleader.

Like anything else, the more time/money you invest the quicker you will advance. you can play without the need to socialize and do things at your own pace. I personally feel we are social creatures that want to be in some sort of wolf pack. and I really think this game can be played by the entire family.

Players do hire others for all sort of jobs just gotta hunt them down. with the right contacts you can forge great working relations.

If I was to start over I would spend most of the time sweating carabook building up skills and follow the quests. buy me an Arkadian Blue Print book or two and take it slow. before you know it there will be few ped in materials and crafted items.

    Howdy Warleader,

First off, welcome to Planet Arkadia and EU! What you "need" to do is really up to you. Even though there are missions that help you become familiar with the controls and basic aspects of the economy, the story of You is yours to write. It's a sandbox MMO for sure.

You can explore Arkadia, space, and the other planets for days w/o seeing it all. You say you prefer a casual atmosphere with sporadic log times, which EU caters to perfectly. I've been in EU for almost 10 years and got by those first few years with casual play on very little depositing (at most $10 / month). Now, I'm efficent enough to rarely (if ever) need to depo.

There ARE many societies (aka Socs) out there that will fit your style of play. I recommend searching this Forum's societies threads and even those over at Planet Calypso's forums (you can be in any SOC no matter what planet you're on).

Keep in mind, especially with casual play, you should expect to progress slowly in skills and professional ranks. This can limit your solo hunting choices. To see with mobs fit your level, visit the EU Wiki, Entropedia (http://www.entropedia.info). The wiki will also give you a decent indicator of all the weaponry that's available.

And despite your preference for a less social scene, I highly recommend either questioning those in your soc for advice and / or chatting those up you meet in game with any questions you have.

Thanks for the responses. Let me clarify what I meant as far as social goes. I mean the "internet date" type of relationship forming thingy. To me, this is silly. I watched youtube videos of this game and there are several that depict it being like a virtual chat room. Now, playing in groups, chatting about the game and game topics, or general life type of stuff is just fine for me. Also, I can see 10 dollars a month investment, thats not too bad.

At this point, the game seems overwhelming as far as how to get started, but I can figure it out. Thanks. all.

This is not allowed, you are allowed one Avatar and that's who you build up your reputation around.

Other then that, previous replies seems to cover most

well, I did not know how the naming convention works. so I chose my nickname as my last name. then when I had to determine my first and last name, I used the last name as my nickname which created a first name and 2 x last names, which is stupid.

I know exactly what you mean because it wasn't my intention to have my avatar carry my actual name. I wanted something galactic sounding but instead I now look like some sort of Bandit. they should allow us a one time name change within a certain period of time.

Anyways, look up Rising Potentials if you wish to join I laid back Society. I'm a disciple myself at 85% training completion.

Well you could ask MindArk in a support request to delete your account (log in at the entropiauniverse.com website to do that). Not sure if they will though. You might also be able to convince them to rename your avatar, but again no idea if they will.

Using 2 accounts could get you banned IF Mindark finds out and being banned means losing all of the stuff in the accounts, real money or not and you mentioning making another account here, might give them a clue ;).

There is a way in game to choose which names to show when people click on you, so you can choose that to be just one of the 3 names you chose, or 2 of them or all 3, so that might help a bit as well.

The people calling EU a virtual chat room have clearly no idea about the game. Recently someone was mentioning sex chats as well, not sure where people get these ideas, but it seems to me people are trying to down talk EU for some reason, sure that's nothing new, but sex chat, com'on ;)

Anyway, welcome to EU and Arkadia. If you see a yellow Ninja in game, give me a shout ;)

If you file a support case requesting that your avatar be removed, and then start a new avatar with a new email address, it is my understanding you have done everything you can do to it properly, and its up to MA to remove the old account when they get around to it.

I would say you can do that pretty guilt and risk free.

Yep, as Narfi said, run everything past MA support and you'll be fine.

well, I don't want to start a mass influx of peeps doing this, but what the heck. They told me they would cancel the account as mentioned previously in this thread. i had to agree upon never activated the account and register a new account. any money I had prior would be lost, items, etc. This was no big deal, since I just started playing. all is good now.

Im glad MA was able to help you. One further bit of knowledge. In game crafters have the ability to help change your avatar appearance. Different hairstyles, make up and even plastic surgery I believe to change physique. So If you get further down the road and want a change without losing what you've gained there are options.
