Welcome to Arkadia and our Forum Angela, Celeste Quarry is the busiest place but at the time you posted this thread it's at that time when there is lowest population online no matter what planet.

What you should or shouldn't do is up to you in this game, but for socializing a bit maybe check out if there are any Sweat circles over at Celeste Outpost TP (I can run out there with you if you don't have it, just add me in game from player register or when you see me, same name as here)

no guilds/clans or farms here, but there is Societies. And earning money, depends on what you read into that sentence and how you approach the game.

Don't know much about second life, but from people that know it very well have all said I made the right choice all those years ago...

Enjoy, totally depends on what you personally find entertaining

As a long time Second Life player, I can see where people might think they are similar, but they are really very different aside from giving you so many options on what you can do. I still love playing around in Second Life (where else could I be a Steampunk Twi'lek Green Lantern with a TARDIS?), but it is more of a virtual sandbox chatroom than a game (although there are some combat systems available, but you don't really benefit from them like you would in a traditional game and are just for fun).

Definitely follow Jenny Ferr's suggestions. You may not advance quite so quickly without depositing anything, but it is possible and apparently even somewhat common to play without depositing.

If you like social activities and party, showing off costumes and outfits, etc.... Celeste outpost. Couple of days ago, there was a party, DJ David from atlas.heaven.radio. was playing music, was really fun. Listening to music, chatting and ``sweating`` mobs. Sweating is the main non depositor thing to do. Sweat for 1k sweat and sell it for 2 PED ingame currency, not to trade terminal, but to other players-avatars.

Game is heavily addicted and fun.
For somebody, fun is hunting, for some mining, crafting, hairstylists, tayloring, trading etc... There are so many things to do. You can become a medic, heal hunters on hunt runs. You can be a quad taxi driver, taking people from planet to planet for PED. Or, you can do what i do. Joyriding:) When i had it with sweating for 2-3 hours, i pour in fuel to my beautiful MK-1 jeep, and just drive. The game is beautiful, forests, deserts, snowy hills and mountains...

People are generaly very polite and helpful, just politely ask, don`t beg for ped. Read forum posts, find out as much as you can about the game. If you need to collect some teleports, i am driving around everyday, so feel free to send PM.

Best of luck and welcome to the most addicted game i have ever played... and i played alot of games. Currently having 20+ games on hard drive and only playing this one for over 2 months...

    Welcome Angela.

I'm really partial to my home planet Arkadia but the beauty of the game is that you can go to any other planet via Motheship or Taxi Quad. I've been to Caly once and really didn't like it but then again I was thee on bussiness. I am not much on the social scene, I am more into social hunting and the Celeste Outpost there are many new players sweating while people are shooting at the Nusul. I get a rush from killing things, finding resources and crafting items.

From the time I joined the game I see more people all the time and I play everyday. so find someone that can teach you the ropes. I suggest enjoy yourself and seek what makes you happy.

Since no-one answered you line for line...

I'll see if they missed anything...

    Welcome, Angela!
Asking questions will be a long-term activity here on Arkadia... :)

As folks have mentioned, most of the locations starting with the word "Celeste" are the go-to places for seeing other faces and players.

Celeste Outpost is good for meeting sweaters
Celeste Quarry is good for meeting traders, crafters and the hunters who go there to meet up with them
Celeste Harbour (and it's various directions) is the "home" of Arkadia in a lot of ways - it's where all the people's apartments currently are, and there are loads of other terminals for crafters and so on there too. It's also an excellent stop for browsing people's shops: while there are other shops at places like Sanctuary Cove, Celeste Harbour has a shop on the ground floor of every apartment block, so there's a lot to browse there too.

I believe very firmly you picked the right planet. Arkadia team is I believe the unparalleled best at reading the forums, responding to player concerns, and fixing issues with graphics bugs, game related issues, quest-related fixes and so on.

They have an excellent development rate, a really cool concept and make life wonderful by paying so much attention to the little details which make this planet so beautiful to walk through - as you've already noticed.

The usual firm recommendation here is to find a Mentor for yourself. I'm a registered one, as are many of the other players on this forum. You will find no shortage of people willing to help you, but when pairing up with a mentor it's worth taking the time to ask a few pertinent questions up front if you're wanting to be serious about your EU career.

You should check what time slots the person would usually be available on... Whether they offer other ways like email or Skype or Forum messages or other messengers to ask questions of them through.

You should know yourself a little as well
    - do you learn better by doing research on your own, and just need pointers of where to go, or
    - do you learn better by being shown each thing in person, etc
    - do you want a mentor constantly in game, or constantly available via email, or is your mentor just there as a vehicle for you to achieve graduation and the armour that goes with that?
    - do you need a mentor with extra benefits such as: willing to buy some or all of your sweat or hunting loot? or
    - are you happy to make your own way on the trading and auction-trade route?

Think about what you'd like to have, and then maybe post in one of the sub-forums (there's one for mentors as I recall) saying what time zone you're in, how many hours you expect to be on in a given week, how often you'd like to be seeing your mentor, and what level of "care" you would ideally like.

I can't guarantee you you will be able to find a perfect fit, but that at least will help you find the best match we have available at the moment.

As mentioned before - it's important to know what you mean by "socializing". If you are looking for the equivalent of a WoW RP server (or a SL role play realm) then TBH Entropia is currently not well matched to your interests for that. You will be entirely able to roleplay to your heart's content and there is a rich emotes, hair-styling and fashion system here to help support you in that endeavour, but you will struggle to find people who are willing to immerse with you to start with - most people in EU have limited time to play, and they are trying to advance their avatars most of that time, so people tend to be "busy" and "out and about" quite a lot, so extended periods of time in RP is... very rare.

If by socializing you just want to meet and chat to RL people a fair amount of your time, then you have a couple of options really, but my recommendations would be, in order:
    - see if you can find a decent-sized Society to join (can be completely unrelated to your Mentor) and leverage the Society Chat channel to find out about those Soc members willing to natter with you.
    - use these forums - many, many times one can find out a lot about people and form friendships based on similar interests discovered here in the forums. If things go well, add each other to Friend's list in game and continue the chats there too.
    - spend a lot of time in the more social spots in Entropia (see above notes on Celeste) and chat to people there in the main chat channel to see if they are willing to engage.

Many of the "big" Societies have "Cadet" versions which are obviously noob friendly. However, many of these also have some basic expectations so it's worth checking what their ethics are, before you apply. That said, Socs are easy enough to leave if you're grumpy.

As to earning money directly from Roleplaying, I would have to say that I am unaware of ways to do this at this time.

In my experience, this is not much like Second Life at all.

As noted: it is indeed possible to engage in free activities and enjoy yourself in Entropia even without an income.
It does require you to be patient, disciplined, and understand your limits and options though. I played for almost 2 years that way myself when I started.

If you're not the sort to get frustrated easily though, you can actually grow your in-game wealth slowly and steadily.

The quick list of activities you can perform which can make you money without you spending anything are:
    - sweating (most reliable)
    - gathering fruit, stones, dung (bit random)
    - being hired to perform a service for someone (usually requires you to have some basic skills or equipment)

For ideas in that third bucket though, see a post on these forums somewhere from a man named "Neil Greenleaf Stockton" - he has a waiting list for new miners he is employing... And he will give you all the tools you need to do his job for him.

These opportunities are rare, and should be treated as very precious, so don't abuse any trusts placed in you - your reputation over time will be one of your biggest assets in Entropia.

Welcome aboard, and good luck out there!

Welcome, as others have said celeste quarry is your best bet as it is the place most people hang out here.

There are many societies that are open and friendly towards newer players, many advertise on the forum. If you haven't already done so getting a mentor early on is a great help, I currently have a few slots open and play pretty much at all times if you need one.

As for non depositing, advancing in this game is definitely harder without deposits but not impossible. You can earn some peds by sweating but if this is to boring :) you can always try to provide a service (taxi, healing etc) or if you have the patience for it and have built up some peds you can start trading.

You can look me up in the player registry if you need any advice or want to do some healing ... I pay well :D
