So my alienware vehicle I got in the newbie mission has taken a bucket load of damage courtesy of some cliffs and Orantuns. It is a limited item so I can't repair it. But that brings me to my first question. I believe there is a difference between damage (which has one status bar) and wear and tear (which has a different status bar) . I vaguely remember reading somewhere that damage could be repaired on L items. Is that true, and how the heck would I do that?

My second question is what makes a good vehicle to buy for a newbie with limited funds. I bought a stupid Spear Mk. III seeing that they were much cheaper than other vehicles and now I'm thinking they were cheap for a reason. The dang thing can't go over anything except smooth water without taking damage and sometimes even flipping, even in a nice smooth desert! That can be pretty annoying when you are in the middle of a heard of Teradons or whatever those things are that do over 100 damage in a single stomp by the way! I'm thinking about TTing it and eating the 3PED loss (a cheap lesson if you ask me), but I'd like to hear what you all have to say first.

First question, you need a vehicle repair tool such as the RK-5 and welding wire (loads in auction) and bare in mine that when you use these you will gain some valuable skills for very little cost. The 'pod will last you for quite a while if you are careful with it and repair it before blowing it up. Blowing it up effects the TT value of it over time, but if you keep its SI (structural integrity) repaired then it will last a lot longer.

Second question, get a crafted hoverpod if you can, a Mk1 is the cheapest and closest to your Alienware pod. They are by far the best starter vehicles in the universe (though i might be a little biased there).

answer to your first question is: yes, you can repair vehicles which were damaged. you can repair the S.I.(structual integrity) with a repair tool, called rk-5 afaik. it is "powered" with welding wires which you need to buy too. with this you can repair your vehicles if it takes damage from not so insightful driving ;) or thru falling and glitch damage.

the TT value is decreasing when you are hit by mobs or in pvp. they work like armor and decay like it. this can not be repaired as most vehicles are limited.

second question is easy. get a flying vehicle such as a sleipnir. you then can easiely escape mobs cuz they dont attack flying rides :D

Do you know anything about the Spear Mk. III?

Is it a piece of junk, am I just using it wrong, or do I need a particular skill to fly it right?

I haven't got a Mk.III but I do have a Mk.I and they are pretty much the same vehicle apart from some stats. TBH I find the collision detection on them to be pretty poor as even the slightest bump can make you flip. The Arkadian Hoverpod had similar issues till the devs tweaked them and now its fine, so IMO the Spear's need tweaking by the Cyrene guys. Not a difficult job I suspect but given all the work they are likely doing, maybe a bit low on the priority list for them. Might be worth posting about it on the Cyrene forum, they are a very decent bunch of chaps and chapettes over there and they will likely be able to tell you what is what more accurately then we can here.

I love the spear but yeah, it can be aggravating when it flips too much. If you're fast, you can stay upright by hitting the reverse key the instant you start to flip.

As has been noted above, the SI (structural integrity) of your vehicle, or any vehicle, can be restored by repairing with an RK-5 and enough welding wire. And, has been noted, you get valuable repair and engineering skills when you repair your own, or another's, vehicle. But if you don't have the ped yet, or don't want to spend the ped, take your vehicle to Celeste Harbor/Quarry/Outpost, or anyplace else you can find people, and just ask if someone will repair it for you. You'll be surprised how readily other folks will repair your vehicle for free in order to get the resulting repair/engineering skills or just because most people are helpful and nice.

I tried to buy one but got outbid. Speaking of which I noticed that the professional prereqs say that you need to be a vehicle structural engineer. Does that mean that even if I bought it I could not use it? If so, how do I work up to the professional requirements?

I can sell you an RK-5 or a low-TT value RK-5 if you like. Contact me in game if you want to do that. Since you haven't used one before, you won't have many skills in the vehicle structural engineering profession. That's ok, you'll learn them as you go. You can use the tool from level 0 and once you reach a certain level (I think level 5 for the RK-5) you'll have the tool maxed and it will work more efficiently.

How do I contact you in game? I requested you as a friend and you were obviously on line since you accepted. But I don't know what to do with it. I look on my friend list and no one shows, including my mentor.

You need to relog in order for new contacts to appear in your friendlist.

Aha! Infeliece was shown as 'Appointed'. I thought that was something else, not a character's name. But since 'Greenleaf' now shows up too and looks the same I got it figured out! Bot are on!!!

Yer the friends list is still bugged after nearly 12 months or more, it's just another of those annoying little bugs that have yet to be eradicated.

Yes, those are the two annoying friend list bugs that have not been fixed. It adds the middle name to the friend list. You can find out the full avatar name (when they are offline) by sending a message to them, it will print out their full avatar name in chat.
