Hello everyone. I started out a couple of weeks ago. Only able to play a couple times a week. But I thought I would give a heads up to any newbies just starting out. If you plan on doing the "Archaelogical Society Missing Personel" mission, be very cautious when traveling in your hoverpod. If you are like me, when you find one of the personel you'll do some exploring just to see what you run into. While exploring is good, be aware of the mobs that you will run into. I went into the desert portion (west central part) of Arkadia and found my missing person. I decided to travel east and ran into a large group of Oratan Slashers. I made the mistake of trying to navigate through them and they destroyed my Hoverpod. If you see an Oratan Slasher, go around them, dont even get close. After purchasing a new pod and fuel, I decided to go to the north east portion of the map as I had two persons missing in that area. After finding both, I decided to travel south. Some mobs you will be able to travel through with no problem. But unfortunately I came across a dinosaur looking mob ( I do not remember their name at the moment), and apparently my computer was lagging, as I was able to travel through them for about a minute and then my pod starting taking damage. Not a single creature was around me. I stopped my pod and then I saw a huge group of these dinosaurs chasing me down. I am now waiting on an auction for my second hoverpod. While these do not cost a lot of PED in the grand scheme of things, I figured I would let other newbies know and keep you from losing PED and time. If you are like me and havent started out with much PED to begin with, every little bit of PED helps. Hope this information helps some of you. Travnikoff Molotov Entreri (Newbie) Planet Arkadia
Just a heads up vehicles have 2 types of damage... Structural and TT.. Structural can be repaierd when a vehicle is destroyed. That will degrad the trade terminal value a bit when done but it will still be usable. Invest in an RK 5 vehicle repair tool and some welding wire and you can repair your own vehicles along with gaining some valuable crafting skills in the process. If you cant afford the tool and wire just yet simple spawn the pods in quarry and many are willing to repair them for the skills.
...and in case you havent noticed yet...when you leave it alone when it blows up...it will respawn in your storage after a few minutes ....just take it out...repair it..and go on and explore
Thanks for the info guys. I noticed it back in my storage but it didnt look useable. I'll check and see if it is repairable the next time I get on. Thanks again. Travnikoff Molotov Entreri
Trust me, it IS repairable. Just spawn it at the quarry and ask for someone to repair it for you, if you don't want to get welding wire and an RK-5 and do it yourself. Fortunately, the free hoverpod can't be traded to the TT, otherwise we'd see newbies TTing them without knowing they can repair them. Keep your pod away from the regular Oratan too. They're even harder on vehicles since they can shoot from far away. Also, if you accidentally drive into a mob spawn and know that you can't drive safely out, simply exit your vehicle. The mobs will then ignore the vehicle and attack you instead. This prevents your hoverpod from taking damage. Of course, you'll die, but you can always use the "recall all vehicles" command (or simply wait 10 minutes) and recover your hoverpod at the next storage terminal. I believe all the revival terminals on Arkadia have a storage terminal nearby.
Hi, would like to add some advice not yet given, suiting to the OP's questions: Aggro range and your radar: Every critter has a certain aggro range, means it will start attacking you when you come too close. It is essential to learn about these ranges for the different mobs! There are mobs that you can nearly jump over without getting attacked, and there are mobs that will come running to eat you as soon as you are just in the vicinity. And there are even mobs that get annoyed if there's other hunters in the area shooting them, will get aggravated and will come from far away to chew on your armor. As mentioned, it's essential to learn the behavior of the different mobs. A good way to measure the distance are the rings on your radar. Don't trust your eyes, some mobs are large, others are smaller. The distance to the smaller ones usually is underestimated. Try to connect the mobs in your view with the red dots on your radar! And beware, you can change the resolution of your radar, too, using the little "+" and "-" buttons on it - and this changes the distance of the red dots too! I'd recommend to find a suitable resolution of your radar once, and then not to change it again. My resolution is usually in a way that the first big ring matches the range of a carbine, roughly 50m. "Missing persons:" Some of them are hard to find, and might be in an area where quite dangerous mobs are residing. One of the most important basic rules of EU is "Avoid any unnecessary costs!" - so, use your Hoverpod to reach said area safely and undisturbed, and as soon as there are more red dots on your radar, leave your vehicle and pick it up. Unequip any armor you are using, as long as you are not sure to be able to kill these mobs. Then sneak by, be careful, check the distances on your radar, find the safe path between the red dots. You might die, try again - it doesn't cost, but you're learning this way. Sneaking through a herd of invincible monsters is a basic and most important skill in EU. Should it be impossible for you to reach the missing scientist, retreat to the Quarry. There's usually some bored, seasoned players that will happily use their VTOL's to help you, if you ask nicely. You might even find a new friend this way! Don't shy to ask for help, but make sure to do it in an approbate manner: "need lift to scientist XY now, who will do" doesn't sound well, try "Desperate. Have tried 5 times now to reach scientist XY, can somebody help me please?", this is much better. Social interaction, and asking for help: As mentioned above, you'll be able to receive an astonishing amount of help. Provided you prove worthy. Be very careful when asking for, for instance never ever ask for any gifts! This could destroy your reputation very quickly, and for a long time. Beware! But if you're acting nicely and in a modest way, asking for help can be the key to the entrance to the social living of EU. You might win friends this way, or you might even get invited to a society. It's up to you. Don't play the hermit (as long as you don't plan to stay one). Ask for help, offer help when possible. And always think how you'll be received - behind every one of all these avatars out there is a real person, judging you based of your behavior. Never forget that you'll maybe be playing EU still in 5 years, like many of us. Watch your reputation! Hope this helps, have a good time!
Being carefull of your reputation is very important. Also don't spam local chat, with requests/demands for help, sometimes the seasoned players are afk for busy doing other things in game, and none of us like to look up and seem the same message filling the whole chat box. I personally try to help as much as I can, but I am often semi afk, and trying to run through mobs while not looking at the screen usually ends up in lots of death
I didn't know there were archaeological soc missions! Thanks for this... Now to work out how to sign up
Thanks Cyborg Bill. After reading this, I went to the quarry, spawned my hoverpod, and in 2 secs flat someone was there to repair it. I didn't even have to ask. Great!!!
