Something i'd like to see more of is areas to have fun with vehicles. I really like the concept of having the race track like they don on FOMA and NI but i know they dont fit in here. I did have some ideas though that could work. What about an illegal sort of race track. I was thinking we could have a "Death Valley" It would not be something contructed but it would be a sort of natural area that the young colonist discovered was perfect for some dangerous illegal racing. Could even be made to have missions where you had to get from one point to another. This Death valley i picture kind of like a sloping down canyon. The slope would help provide high speeds and walls on either side making it sort of a gautlet. Then you could have like little sort of land area jumps and even a part maybe like a halfpipe or even a fullpipe tunnel. ( i wonder if you had enough speed you could do a like corkscrew with a valky. Just would add to some part of the community we could have like a car night where ppl brought there vehicles to race and do stunts and stuff like that. I think you could make a really neat "stunt track" but have it totally naturally formed from earth and stone. Also i was wondering could it be possible to make something like a snowboard using the vehicle system? Because we've got quite the snow covered mountains around and like my "Death Valley" i mentioned above you could make a very cool track into a mountain all kind of natural and be the same kinda concept just for snow. I think you could really make a neat market out of having vehicles and giving people reasons to break them. If you make the run long enough you could kind of make it have mobs too like think of oratan like the sand people shooting at anakin in star wars durring the race. The pod races in star wars are kind of a good example of what i'm talking about for a natural made raceway.
Some very good ideas. I've been wondering a few things in regard to this kind of thing... 1) what's the max speed a valkyrie or arctic truck can attain downhill (it's > 120) 2) and can you build landscape down below 0 and have it not be underwater? Also, in regard to a racing area, it might be a good idea to disallow TP chips in the area and make sure revive terminals are properly spaced to prevent any kind of cheating during races.
I do like the idea's but I doubt it will work. All planets had such discussions and race tracks where build. But lets be honest, the tracks are never used by anyone. Now they are only polluting the land doing nothing. And that I find a waste to be honest. Regards, Ion
I've been on track at NI and it's just not exciting. The terrain is flat and requires no skill to drive on it. There are quite a few areas on Arkadia that are fun to drive on, I don't see why it can't be made better by designing a track with terrain and jumps and obstacles.
I have already proposed the idea to Cyrus and the ball is already rolling. But of course, as with everything else, all these "extras" totally depends on how much time the Dev team can squeeze into their normal development tasks, such as treasure hunting. If we are lucky and get the full go ahead, we may have multiple tracks; a simple half-pipe track in the near feature, then a more complex BMX Bike X-Game style park. But unlike other tracks, the proposed tracks will work best with our own state-of-the-ark Arkadian Hoverpod. Simple snowboard halfpike (video) 2011 BMX X-Game park (video) jc
All sounds good for fun maybe in future, but yeah, bottom of the priority list I hope, Apts/Shops, Treasure, and even first Clothes for tailoring at the top (to me anyway, we all want different things but it is as Dave has said a small but dedicated team, they can only do so much so fast )
No, you can't. CryEngine 2 is built like that, in fact even if you have no water in sight a massive volume of water is always rendered under the surface, it's really a piss poor concept but it's like that...dam you crytek...
Cool ideas but too rigid and fixed... I like the fact that players can create their own circuit wherever they are, just like people do in real life they might say things like left at the hill, down the path, right at Peter who will be standing there dancing like an idiot...
The only thing is if you have some stuff that really makes it fun then not just the creative and inventive people will do it. We need things to drive the economy and the general fun level of players. And stuff that keeps people playing even when they've run out of PED so that they dont just quit.
a few of my friends, do tp races, teaches you to read the map and pick the best route, thats way more fun then a set up track. Bug
We don't need a Race Track Rex, we have the best planet that we can drive almost all over Beanie and I and a few others have had many races, we actually have TP races with new members of SOC. That way they are getting TP's also. Much fun to be had, just getting from one TP to the next most times...LOL
Yeah, was about to say the same. One can easily set up TP races, especially now that anyone can get a pod for free. After all, we do have 50+ TP points on Ark, so there are plenty of "tracks". jc
I think it's about 125 but I know I've managed to max a valk down a hill but it loses the speed really quickly when it flattens out. I was trying to jump a hangar on Calypso (I was bored) and found a really big hill next to one but I'd lost all the speed by the time I had reached the hangar, plus the tiny ridge around them stops you dead While I was still on Calypso I was looking for the big cliffs to drive off and there were serveral in the NE with water at the bottom which was quite handy as I'd gathered quite a few AOA at the time. I did find one steep hill on Ark in the SW with a small bump just after it flattens out at the bottom, i.e. typical stunt ramp, which you can get some decent air in a valk Sadly the speed also drops off in the air just as fast as it does on the ground so no Evil Kenevil style canyon jumps althought I found this video which seems to contradict what I found but I was also going up a slight hill as well so maybe thats why I lost so much distance and speed.
now how is that for service!! i posted this in Febuary and less then 4 months later we get a race track.
