Watch This Planet Arkadia Update 2012.1 (31st Jan 2012)

Never hurts to mention it again, just in case. Just saying in case someone else feels the compulsion to post it.

 

Very nice update for beginners. I was quite impressed and enjoyed the new scenery. Job well done!

 

I must say having started in EU about 5 years ago with nothing but orange jumpsuit, i'm really impressed by these beginner missions. They really give a nice headstart for new people as well as a nice introduction to basic systems.

I remember having to sweat for days to just try out mining/hunting, and here you can do all that for free, and still have some cash left. And ontop of that your personal vehicle with fuel, it's just beyond awesome.

Next time somebody asks about which planet to start on, i will definitely recommend Arkadia!

the new items for the new players is an excellent idea to get them excited about the planet & should be done on all planets from now on.

Love the Pod : ) was able to do roll overs in it which was so funny for me & others to see

Was also grate to see Dave & the other advisors at the bar sitting around chattin with peeps & answering any questions thrown there way
Looks like ARKADIA'S on its way back to being the cool place to be with all the grate new looking areas & buildings too

Tryed the starter mission out yesterday and IMO it's great. I started 2006 and nothing similar to this was available. Good integration with information about how stuff works and storyline. Maybe a bit to much freebees IMO, do we need players that expect everything for free or the ones who can grind their way forward in life? Nothing about sweating so far, I stoped at the mining part so I'm not sure what comes after that though.
Anyway, a big THUMBS UP for this.

 

Great setup for new player experience into EU and Arkadia. References storyline, instructs on how to use items and attachments etc. Great job guys.

Couple things I noticed, well as mentioned textures on hoverpod but still nice vehicle to drive in be great flying through caves once you can look through window in first person. Also I actually found Stones and Fruits flying it around, I have done it before in the Jeep but much easier to spot with the hover pods. So keep and eye out when driving it around. Other then that the Mako Trainer is a Level 100 sword to max out may want to fix that I am 0.7/10 for hit ability and I have been playing for over a year ugg. I do like the trainer guns and that you hand out ammo to try out the hunting great job there. Missions were awesome flowed very well and smoothly. Was sad to see the old 8 Coins HQ destroyed I liked the canyon town, actually was my first option to get apartment there when they became active. Hope the new cities get build up nicely but sure will miss the canyon town. One other thing you should have mentioned I think in the missions is sweating and the benefits of doing it. Most new players see it as just a way to get PED and it is so slow and deters them from the game. Sweating when you start is a key development for a new avatar IMHO, mainly to gain Evade fast. I would not suggest a new player to even attempt an Oro unless their evade is around 400 points, absolutely un-eco to do so and death rate is to high and makes it annoying to hunt the Oro. But that is just my opinion, I instruct my disciples with this knowledge however. Also send a Gardner out to Watchtower 3, need to spray for weeds there starting to get overgrown

I like the look of the new cloths, the helmet is a little Elroy Jetson, bit comical but I like it, It is my new flight helmet when I fly through space. Maybe could add special IFN missions that if you have it equipped you get transmissions from the C-c-commander

But I give the new player experience 9 out of 10 only because of the hoverpod texture issue else it would have been a 10 out of 10 release for the A-Team. GREAT JOB GUYS you are amazing there.

 

Just wanted to ask to be 100% sure: Are the new missions and free items limited time offers for existing players (like the Calypso Gateway open house), or is the content available to complete at any time?

 

Anyone can complete the missions at anytime. They are here to stay as an introductory for any new player that arrives on Arkadia.

Update rocks, ran the full mission for pod, helmet, pants, boots, trainer gun and sword and mining gear. Great way to get beginners up and going with a good start great way to give them a taste of how systems work. Only draw back I saw was the distance a beginner would have to travel for the mining portion if they don't have TPs in that region. Over all was great mission and a lot of work seemed to be put into developing the new buildings and terrain.

 

Since I already had the tps, I can't say for sure, but it seemed like those tps would be added as needed. Once you talked to C. Harvir, that is..

 

When new players did the find the lost surveyor mission it added the necessary tp automatically so probably does the same thing as well.

 

I cant believe there is no mention about this on the forums just a sneaky pick in the Update notes.

This is the first actual moving NPC I have seen in game and something I hoped for some time ago
