    Hello,

i today got the idea for mining and treasure hunting which might be nice:

I thought of metal poles and rubber bands to mark you mining / treasure hunting ground.

There are alot looted components atm which have no real use on arkadia and are hard to sell right now.

Imagine you be out in the woods and have to possibility to put a metal pole in the ground and in some meters distance you put the next. between the poles you could put a red rubber band to mark the area you are in. you can build up a square like that.

that could give more activity to economy and help miners to get a visual impression of the area they already carpeted with probes.

after the run is finished you can take the poles out of earth and the rubber band aswell. or let it stick in the ground and just make another square next to it to search the next areas.

i thought about that when i sometimes mine some hours and forget where i all dropped probes when i got killed etc.

i know that specially archeologist do that type of things cause they dig up very carefully and is important to mark an area where people are not allowed to step in without takeing much care to the ground.

    How about that?

Sounds like too much effort, to me. If you die, you just put in /l /pos during the countdown and you can get a waypoint for exactly where you died. And if you're keeping track of claims, you already have coordinates for your last claim. But to drop a pole, run 55 m to drop another, then run to drop the other poles and the "rubber bands" then run back to the center, drop, run around picking them back up... No. I, for one, wouldn't bother with it. Good idea, just too much work.

My only concern is the opportunity for abuse by pranksters as per the dropping of decoys in an area to create noise and lag.
If anyone can pick up a dropped pole/rubber band, then people can nick or mess with your arrangement. If others can't pick them up then they can be misused to screw with other people.

OP has an interesting idea, but I think it can be simplified.

I would enjoy the ability to view waypoints placed on the mini-map as "physical" markers on the landscape. Something like the glowing green pylon you get when you double-click on a distant surface.
Visible exclusively to the avatar that placed them, and without any rubberband linking them.
However it should be fairly easy to cordon off an area on the mini-map and then stay within it. Cleaning up afterward would be breezy.

Of course there wouldn't be any crafting of new items involved. I feel the waypoint system should operate on the map, and on the landscape to begin with.

    Now that's a good idea, Fiasco. :)
