Hello everybody! I started playing Entropia a couple of days ago and enjoying it! Been reading up on some guides and what not about upgrading your weapon. I got 10 hit and 10 crit now and it's time to go on. The thing I'm wondering about is a stat on the information on weapons. "Damage burn: 10" What exactly is damage burn? Thanks in advance.
burn is a damage type, 10 is the amount of damage it does. Weapons (and creatures) can have different damage types: -Stab -Cut -Impact -Penetration -Shrapnel -Brun -Cold -Acid -Electricity Different kinds of armors protect against different types of armor.
You probably have more than one damage type from your weapon. Firearms typically do burn and penetration damage.
I recommend looking at Sasha's SIB chart over at PCF. http://www.ageofenlightenment.eu/SIB.php You also want to look at your dmg interval / max range. Once you get to the maximum for that, move up to the next SIB weapon so you can say "in the purple" range. Edit: ^^ This advice wastes a lot of ammo and gives you a slightly faster skill gain.
Ah okey cool =) But what about the required level for using the weapon efficently? I have 6/5 now in laser sniper(hit)/ranged laser(dmg). My weapon(herman LAW-101 desert) is at 6/6 in skill. It will be 10/10 before I hit 15 in my skills. Should I just stay using that weapon til' I have met the required level?
My recommendation is that you avoid using a new weapon until you have it (the new weapon) nearly maxed. By this I mean you have hit at or close to 10/10 and ur damage interval at or close to the max interval. At a hit rate of 0/10 you are hitting 80% of the time. At a hit rate of 10/10 you are hitting 90% of the time. So if you arent using a maxed weapon you are hitting less often which is costing you decay and ammo for no benefit. Similarly if you arent maxed on damage, then you are doing less damage per hit = bigger cost per dead mob. You can see I am recommending an approach a little different to the one Niel is suggesting. He is saying, stay in the SIB range to get maximum skilling benefit. My view is that the skill benefit is difficult to measure and I go for more efficiency in the long term. But really it is a choice for you. Skill a bit faster but at a lower level of cost efficiency vs skill a little slower but minimise your costs. There is no right answer. Regards, KikkiJikki
+1 I would also suggest you max out the next weapon before using it. That is if you want to be cheap like me =D. I did the SIB thing all the way to lvl 30 and it cost me an arm and a leg.
Yeah, I actually do the same as you KJ, and I'm not sure why I recommended staying in the SIB range in my post above, other than that is what "most" people seem to recommend for faster skilling, and I thought that was what the OP was asking about (didn't read the post carefully enough). I started using the SIB ladder but then realized I was wasting half of my ammo on a barely perceptible skill bonus. SIB does seem to be overrated in my experience, maybe it makes a difference when you get to higher skill levels, I don't know... In any case, Oakvalley, if you're interested in playing economically, then you don't move up to the next weapon until it's maxed or nearly maxed like the previous posters said, and ignore what I said in my first post. In other words, keep using your TT law-101 until you've got lvl 9 in both professions and the law-101 arctic info window says hit: 10/10 and dmg: 12.5-25 / 12.5-25 or close to it. The SIB charts are still very useful tho.
Well I see the main benefit from using a SIB weapon is you can max them at a reasonble level, compared to a non sib weapon. I don't think I'll be using any non-sib weapon till I make lvl 70 Regards, KikkiJikki
Good point. I should have said "Using a weapon during its SIB period is overrated". It's great that they max so quickly.
i agree with sam it most aspects... wait till iuts maxxed then use it. im almost lvl 30 blp sniper and i still use the cb19 (lvl 14 gun) most of the time. The only time i ever buy a bigger SIB gun is when i go on big soc hunts on spiders/hogglo/prot. thats because i need the bigger gun to keep up with everyone elses damage. on a side note: in mining you go with the finder you can go deeper with
wait, whaaat! "Do not use a new wep before it's maxed or almost maxed".. This is confusing, does the skill scale on the new weapon without me using it?
Yes. Try it out. Look at a law-101 a/d/j in auction (or whichever model has you in the "SIB" range) and record your hit & dmg efficiencies. Then go hunt with your TT law-101 for a while and come back. You'll see that your efficiency with the law-101 a/d/j has gone up. Any time you use a weapon you will see the green skill gains go by in your chat window. A particular weapon becomes maxed when your profession levels for that weapon reach the top level of the SIB range (the very top of each bar on the SIB chart). As skills increase, your profession level increases. When you use a weapon, you're not just learning how to use that particular weapon, but the entire family that weapon belongs to. So... you can max out a law-505 by never touching anything bigger than a law-101. You will burn through many law-101s (and never be able to hunt anything very big), but you will max the 505 eventually.
Continue doing your research as that is ALWAYS a good thing. A word of advice though and many may dispute it but in my experience just because MA says in the stats you can now use something most certainly does NOT mean you can use it effectively. some things have a harsher curve in this regards then other things and that is learned by experience but it pretty much holds true that "Use" level and "Effective" levels are not close by any means.
