Is it true that the amount of skills you get depends on the number of bullets you shoot?

So if I say switch from same level gun, that shoots 100 ammo at once to one that shoots 200 ammo, my skill gain doubles?

As far as i've noticed, the more decay you have the faster you skill.
Shooting extra ammo could be counted as decay but i'm not sure. Putting on an Amplifier Does increase skill gain.
Same as a scope and laser sights.

    What Stagger said.
And I wouldn't say it doubles if you double the decay/ammo.

Yes, you can skill faster with using higher weapons.
But the skill gain is NOT equal to the higher decay (means: 10x decay is NOT 10x skill gain!).

The quickes way to skill is using weapons with a high use/minute, was each use giuves a small chance for a skill gain.

Quickest way to skill imo is to use rockets and grenade launchers, but they are also for a beginner the most expesnive choice. Reason why you skill quick: you can grab a lot small HP mobs and shoot at all at the same time. Each hit = a skill gain chance, plus each kill another skill gain chance. If you grab many of them you don't risk to overkill too...

But, as I said: for a beginner very hard and very expensive.

Actually, there's a little more known about skills if you're interested.

First, it's important to understand the difference between the ways people measure 'skills'. What EU shows you is the skill Points. The best way to measure, and discuss, skill value is the the skills' TT value. The TT value is what you get for chippin out/in. Each skill point is worth a higher TT value.

As a simple rule of thumb, you get ~1% of your offensive decay (ammo + weapon decay) returned as an increase in TT skill value. Some people think there is a 'kill bonus', so killing small mobs would give a little better gain/ped. It also may be possible that some mobs (i.e. Merps) give back a higher % as skill. (I haven't personally tested either theory.)

The number of 'green lines' you get has no relation to your skill gain since 5 lines worth 5pec each would be worth more than 20 at 1pec each.

Here is a website with a nice table showing the how the TT per point changes.

There is also a great Skill Scanner tool that can help keep track of your gain rate.

    Good luck out there. :)

I think it is a lot more complicated, probably due to poor coding and changes over the years.
You will not get large gains using big weapons on small mobs or small weapons on big mobs (if any at all).
You need to match the weapon to the mob(maturity).
I also believe your armour plays a role.

The most important item that I follow is Profession Dmg. If you hover over the Dmg item progession bar you are interested in you will see a pop-up that shows the % needed to advance to the next level. I keep track of this from run to run.
It shows me the efficiency my setup.

I am not a hunter but a crafter. I noticed some changes in how skill is gained from when I started crafting in 2006. One thing I noticed is different items crafted give bigger or smaller skill gain per green line depending on cost of crafting. But I also noticed that 200 peds on a low cost ton of click items will give me more total skill gain points than a 200 peds on a high cost not many clicks items even though the skill gain amount is more per green line.

I wonder if it is similar in hunting.

Want more skillgains increase decay, using bigger weapons and strapping the biggest amps, sights and scopes on you can increases skillgains. If you want to play eco buy opalo+a101 and hunt small mobs forever... If you want to skill all the time (me) go as big as you can as hard as you can always.

I've done some testing using my law-101 (with and without A101) and the law-101 arctic (with and without A103) and at my skill level 14 hit 11 dmg, the arctic with amp is significantly more eco (dmg/pec) than the other three setups, even with a 120% MU on the gun. Only at a 200% MU would the two setups (law-101 with A101 and law-101 arctic with A103) be equal eco. I was surprised... I'd thought the tt weapon would be the most efficient.

My experience is that you get 2 skill experiences on average per a mob. No matter what the mob's level. So it's more eco to kill the simplest mobs. That's why I prefer to kill punies. It costs almost nothing. I still get my 2 skill experiences. Even though I don't have SIB on my low level guns any more.

    Hi,

Might have misunderstood, but this looks like a fool-proof recipe to "lose-a-lot" to me ...

    Have a good time!

The tests I personally did show that you get most of the skills per PED from the low level mobs, the less health they have the better because there is a kill bonus.

If you shoot the same amount of PEDs into a mob but don't do a killing shot and leave them alive, you get much less skills.

The higher above your level a mob is, the less skills you get from it per PED shot into it.

Also, an interesting fact about Carabok - at first they were L2 and gave little hunting skills. Then the only parameter was changed, their movement speed, nothing else, they jumped from L2 to L10 because of that and started giving way more hunting skills per PED than before.

So if you ask me, a mob's level shows how many hunting skills it gives, but Carabok is the only mob in EU that is L10 and has only 10 health, which because of killing bonus makes it number one in EU for skilling in terms of skill TT / PED

I agree on endy's observations about the caraboks.. Ive done nothing but shooting caraboks for a few days, and even at lvl 45 laser pistoleer (hit) using an M2100 TT pistol from Calypso, i get quite a lot of skills from those caraboks.. Its really cheap skilling.. :)

Well, let's see how long this freebee will last... I've been hunting Caraboks since day one, about 1.5k PED cycled thru, all hunts (about 150) are recorded, I'll probably be the first one to know

That is exactly what I am doing. I use an Opalo SGA / M2100 and CB5 (ul) / S30 combination. More skill per ped on these so far but I haven't done too much with Halix yet. They may have similar skill rates...

As part of my Decipleship. I looked at how quick each thing moves my % up. I spent 150ped mining and went up about 2%, this included kill mobs Bokol,Zadul. I have for 3 days swunted Carabok using TT laser pistol and not only do i have almost 3k of sweat my % is now at over 8% and i havnt spent more than 20ped in ammo so far. Started with 50ped ammo. So when the 50ped is up it will be interesting to see what my % Decipleship is :)

Also, I noticed that there is some sort of weight multipliers set assigned to hunting skills, that changes over time, plus maybe when you log in or something else.

Sometimes during a hunt I get only one or two agility gains, sometimes dozens of them. So if you are after agility for example, you can wait out for a favorable agi multiplier and then do a few hour hunt. If your agility is 50-ish it might give you 0.5 - 1 agility gain in a couple of hours of Carabok hunt.

This sounds reasonable actually. Are there drops for any rockets or grenades on Arkadia i didn't think we had any here. Be nice for them to put it in though. I've got some Explosive Ammo piling up in storage and nothing to use with it.
