Warp Mines In order to stop vessels traveling in warp speed warp mines can be dropped. Warp mines can be dropped from smaller vessels and will be active for a limited amount of time only. The success rate of bringing a ship out of warp speed depends on: Placement of the Warp Mine. The level of the Warp Mine. Warp drive level of the target vessel. Captain skills on target vessel. The idea, I'm gathering, is that this is a pirate tool. You drop the warp mine and camp the location, waiting for a warping ship to get stuck in its "net" and materialize right in front of you, unprepared for battle. Then you proceed to shoot the ship while space is loading up for the gunners and the escorts have no time to mobilize, and you loot the passengers. What makes it strange is that MA billed the mine as "countermeasures" against piracy... I can't fathom how anyone other than pirates will use mines, if this is indeed how they're used. Once pirates start flitting around in MSs... possibly... but even then, you're more likely to catch a non-pirate ship in your net, and why would you try to loot a pirate mothership anyway? On the off-chance they're hoarding stacks of lootables? I guess we'll have to see whether this new tool means anything more than another pain in the neck for MS pilots.
what i understood was it is an anti pirate tool, meaning that even tho MS and Privateers are the only ones warp capable right now, smaller ships might be warp capable in the future. clicking on warp speed in my VTOL in space merly returns "No Warp Device attached" is the answer i get (or something very like that, cant remember) so as anti pirate device as you are running from a pirate, drop one in his path to slow him down and get away from him this is what i think imo will be sometime in the future. another thought occurs to me. the quad outriders can drop these mines as the ship (ms, or Privateer) is preparing for warp (30 sec lead time if i remember correctly) and slow any pirates zeroing in on the ship
