How practical is stone/fruit walking?

There are two aspects to this question. One is whether it's worth actually trying to collect this stuff at all, given that taming isn't back yet (so fruit is effectively worthless) and there are no managed LAs on Arkadia yet (so dung is worthless ATM and growth molecules are TT food). This leaves natural stones, and AFAIK there are very few dedicated texturers and/or texture crafters on Arkadia yet.

The second point is how often this stuff drops on Arkadia. Does anyone here make a habit of resource walking on Arkadia? There are plenty of places where it's easily doable (no mobs) but how does the drop rate compare to Calypso?

Drop rate is about the same, the only thing I noticed is that the pile's you find is usually of a smaller size then on Calypso.
Largest I found here is 135fruit in one pile, on Calypso it's 450+ but ofc thats a rare find even on Caly, but normal Caly finds seems to be 30-70 while so far on Ark 10-30.

Could also be I haven't found a good spot yet either, it's still a whole new planet

Well, with today's announcement of textures coming on the 27th, I'm sure texturizing will become more popular.

Well, presumably the people who were already making stone textures could have come to Arkadia? Admittedly, it's going to be a lot more useful for a prospective texturer to be on Arkadia once those textures are out - all the mob hide BPs but also perhaps some of the metal ones. (A yulerium texture might be interesting.)

Of course, Arkadia clothes aren't out yet either, and textures are lootable if you get caught with them in space - but I can see people bringing across finished, uncustomised Calypso clothes and then texturing them using Arkadian textures, while on Arkadia. An oro-leather basic shirt, for example, might be quite a premium item elsewhere.

Maybe the Ostelok will start dropping their hides..... :p

But yeah, stones can go for a pretty good MU... Fruit might once pets come back...

What I have found is that because of lower amount of ppl on Ark I have found more stones/fruit & dung lol the past month then I have found on Cally the past year. And I have not been walking to find them just randomly picking them up when i see them while hunting.

I've often thought it was a bit odd they never bothered to make fruit textures. A fair amount of work, I guess, but more BPs in the book for people to skill with, another extractor type to loot, another use for something that likely ends up rotting in storage plus a haimoros master + rancher combo could look pretty sweet.

I know of at least one person that has made a nice little pile of peds by picking up stones. It's always good to explore the world and gather stuff as you go.

Not sure how dumb I might sound, but before Arkadia was introduced I spent around 8 mounths doing all my hunting, mining and etc in walk mode. This was on caly and I slowed down because my ped issues dictated it. I thought there was no hurry to just dump all my ped in a fast run to see if I might get lucky because frankly I am very unlucky.....LOL....
I found that I would average a find of all these items about every 20-30 minutes. Then something started to change that did not suprise me.
I would spend hours in a day when I had the time to in game and the finds started to slow up quite obviosly to about a find an hour. At this time I knew that MA was still drulling at the idea of becomming a bank and still is. Then they took and broke the shots for our weapons into 100th of a pec when at one time it only took one pec to shoot the most basic weapon. These also dropped with the mobs that I would hunt. So if I got one bullet I could shoot it. Now I get 40, 60 ,79 bullets and still can not shoot the same weapon. bumber........ It was micro manged to MA's proffet margen.
I at this time started getting fewwer and fewwer finds. then they did the same thing with minning not so long ago and I cant recover even a small amount of those while either minning or hunting. I now costs more to do either and walking just for the small finds even out hear have not been worthy of my shortend abillity of time to play.
It may be changing for the moment but MA controlls every plannet and as long as they want to keep micro managing like bankers and oil companies do than Im not sure that the development of the game is from gammers like us that play but people that are going to take as much as they can from us.
At the moment I went back to cally but am most concern to make the trip back (though I will most likely soon) because I got jacked with stackables in space trying to ship goods to Ark...

Guess just to play for fun right now is the only option.

    Luck to us all

here's how i see it. If you got time WALK to each tp you should be unlocking all of them anyways. Gives you a chance to find some. I wouldn't sell your fruit at ALL right now i've been stock piling all that i've found for the last 2 years (which is much but still...) wait for taming it may be very profitable then or you may just want to use it yourself (which will probably be my case).

I wish they would allow us to make fruit into textures. Then we could have a use for them regardless of the taming timetable. I want:
    a caroot suit
    bombardo boots
    papplon pants
    a haimoros hat

I do a lot of mining on Arkadia and most all the time I walk while doing it. I am not in much of a rush when I go mining, I figure walking collecting stones and fruits while mining is good way to gather these types of resources. Walking is also a great way to see the land for was it really is, I still sometimes find spaces that I never knew were there, little waterfalls, small holes, etc Even found a place where someone made a picture under a bunch of trees with paint cans :) would have never seen that flying and was in a niche were driving would have been hard.

About quantity, I have found stack from 11 to 175 of these resources, stacks of 13 seem to be most common. I usually spot a stack randomly walking around every 1/2 - 1 1/2 hours. Sometimes find some one right after the other. Not real sure how Supreme Being Lootius works when blessing you with free stuff on the ground, I have not seen much of a pattern really.

Keep eye open while hunting also sometimes when you stop to shoot some pop up at your feet. I don't think it is a profitable substitute to sweating to get PED faster but while your out and about mining and hunting it is a good way to get a small bonus. Also if you are out walking just for the fun of it from TP to TP you can speed the process up by run walking, every couple seconds you switch from run to walk then back to run. Halves the walking time and you still can see the resources pop up.

    hope this helps

I haven't tried it yet but maybe you could load yourself up with weight so that your speed is somewhere between walking and running.

We used to do that in the army with full gear, 3 minutes run and 3 minutes walking.
    We called that "speed mars"

I never saw fruit pop up though, only enemy if you where unlucky :D

You can toggle between walking and running by pressing Q (at least in my config) and then set it to auto with R (again my config). Saves the tips of your fingers ;)
