With all these talks about PvP in space ... has MA officially published anything about the Rules of Engagement (RoE) in space? How are the PvP attack/defense values calculated among the different ships? What are the effects of armor, weapon, crew, skill, etc. What about the loot? (No loot = players can ONLY lose their PED and no gain for ANY form of PvP) Can ships fleet up? If none of these info exist, then PvP in space atm will be a pure money tree for MA, with nothing for the players. If MA is trying to be like EVE Online, then we need to have clear and balanced RoE enforced. jc
Unless I've missed something today no, they haven't told us much detail at all yet about how it's all going to work. Moving this over to Entropia Universe section
Ofc there is something for the players, if there is nothing for the players noone would go there and there would be nothing for MA to gain. There is always something for some players, there is nothing that will please all players (anywhere, anytime)
Yes but everything in the game is a money tree? why would space be any different (or are we saying the same here now? )
With EVE Online, the players involved in PvP will get loot, just like they would killing mobs in PvE. Since EVE Online is about space, the loot here would be portion of the cargo and ship mods. MA needs to do something similar in order to have players venture into space and be welling to do the PvP. Currently we have no information on how any of these PvP will take place other then "you can PvP in space". IME/HO just offer the ability for players to be the transportation between planets will not be enough lure to get players into space and take the chance of losing their ships/cargo. And as another issue related to this, what will happen to the avatar if the ship they are in gets blown up in space? Do they end up back at the planet they are from? This introduces yet another risk for a player to lose their PED w/o getting what they paid for. If this space thing plays out in the correct way, EU will have a few more "professions" such as freight/passenger carriers as well as space pirates/escorts. Otherwise it will be a very costly "experiment" by MA for the players. jc
I do hope there will be new professions like that, just a few more days and we will know for sure. To get back onto topic, Motherships have big guns, those big guns will be for big spacemonsters. Atleast that's what i can remember from my little conversation with 08 when we went up in space. So don't be completely convinced but word is that the new space will hold big spacecreatures to slaughter! Then about the ships and their stats, i suppose it's about the same as vehicles we have now but then higher? Fleets of ships batteling vs eachother does sound epic to me
New professions? Not a bad idea for encouraging more space travel. Perhaps a new skill or two as well.
Maybe we could choose to fly a white flag or a Jolly Roger to distinguish ourselves as PvPers or not Pvpers.
mercenaries = Protecting smaller ships carriers / space hunters and miners crew = Manning space ship weapons and terminals (shield and other repairs on motherships etc) Just to name a few White flag, red flag or blue, they all will be destroyed
The big killer to PvP in space will be Limited Spacecraft. We have seen how Limited vehicles fair in PvP on land, in the depths of space a revival may be very far away! Not to mention the fact that you wont be able to TP to your previous location and fight on foot. Once your Limited ship is destroyed, its back to the auction to find another one. They are giving away 4 unlimited fighters, that will not be enough. To be effective, if your unlimited ship is destroyed in PvP you should be able to quickly repair and fly back/wormhole back to your previous position.
This PvP bs is the thing that most puts me off interplanetary travel. Will be examining the new system when it is launched to see if I can avoid all that and just do the thing I want which is to get from A to B with minimum fuss.
Will be great too if Mindark add in all Neutral Space Station, a "space trade terminal" selling welding wires, oil, heavy ammo and perhaps a rk-5 tool. I am not asking tt value, can be market value too, i understand Mindark can do a lot peds with my system. I say this because people go to this Neutral Station only for revival system, welding wire is a lootable thing, and you can revive in a isolated station, with a burned space ship in inventory, and nothing for repair. Never mind if you have peds in card, you can do nothing. At the moment i see only 2 solutions to this, you call someone in friend list for go there with some welding wire and a tool or you write a warning help message in forums hoping someone risk his ship for go help. Greetings.
Something else to consider, new ship: freighter...it flys between stations and planets making deliverys and buying and selling. A space trader, another new profession. The freighters can try flying alone, or hire mercenary to protect them for a cut of the profits, or flat rate, either way freighters in all games are fairly simple ships, long and thin, with medium speed and big cargo areas. The VTOL's and fighters aren't going to have a big area to haul things, so for commerce a new ship is needed, and wont be hard to design either, think boxes connected by a frame and command up front and engines behind..tada freighter, can also be used as a miner, with add on of Mining Beam..similar to extractor used now as far as visuals go.
although I'm an entropia noob, I'm a long-time EVE player. definitely need to know what the rules are before I get into space, otherwise it's just flying blind so outside of the safe zone around the stations, it's just a free-for-all? if attacked, say by 2 pies, can the current ships in-game fight back effectively? or are they just fucked?
I know the the threads now a few months old, but the question was asked. Outside the safezones, yes, it is a free for all. And yes, ships can fight back. How effectively tho, is determined by the one behind the controls and the equipment they have. As is the state now of space and vehicles, there's only one type of primary weapon for pilots and one type of secondary weapon for the gunner/passenger per vehicle class/type. It is worth mentioning that these mounted weapons are vehicle versions of Opalos, in which they have SIBs and start @ Prof 0 and need to be skilled to reach 10/10 and full dmg/range. -- Some corrections of prev posts for new readers to avoid misinformation -- - The oil fueling your ship is safe from loot. - Your tools are not lootable. - The Welding Wire you carry will no longer get looted, this error on MA's part was fixed.
