Interesting thought about FPC running the show again.. Not sure How I feel about that.. @David.. Ty for your post. It does make me feel a bit better there is some stability!!
As I cannot speak for the entire community, I really, REALLY appreciate that. However, I'm sure others also appreciate the communication, professionalism, and work ethic of the A-Team.
I totally agree! Seeing MA take control over Calypso again feels somehow strange.... back to PE? Anyway, let's hope this turns out well. It seems guys at MA aren't taking their business lightly! Go MA! .LeZ.
This is a planet calypso matter, so i don't expect any diffrent of you as arkadia team. Things on this planet will propably be and remain stable, that's a good thing to look forward to. Yes i do hope to see FPC return, fingers crossed!
Just a quick post to say thanks again to David and Arkadia for prompt communication to the players on this subject which tbh isn't in your remit i guess. The way Arkadia manages things impresses me greatly, keep it up .
I'd be surprised if Calypso weren't sold to someone else soon. Speculation about why SEE "lost" rights to Calypso may never go answered publicly, but it would be interesting to watch how SEE's other lines of business perform in the near future as well.
yeah, it was. but, the first payment was $1M. and, they acquired FPC staff and intellectual property as well. marco was demoted to "managing director" which implies other executives were brought in to run SDS (which appears to have been a separate company wholly owned by SEE. as to why, they didn't make the other payments is a matter of speculation. however, if SEE wanted out, it would have been simpler to negotiate selling SDS back to MA (or to someone else) and recoup some of the $!M spent than to default and lose everything.
Dave - Thank you for your prompt comment on this development. Your communication with the player community continues to be excellent and I certainly appreciate hearing your thoughts on how this impacts or doesn't impact Arkadia.
So, it's always been my understanding (from something ND said in a video that ironically used to be posted on the SEE site) that Calypso would not loose any revenue from those players who traveled to Arkadia or any other planet. Revenue for the planet partners is generated only from players originally spawned on the their planet and they continue to collect revenue from those avatars even if they resettle on another "world". So I don't think Arkadia had any effect on this situation. It appears that SEE (for unreported reasons) stopped making payments after the first payment of $1M. In which case they violated the terms of their purchase agreement, forcing MA to repossess it's assets to protect the player base. Good for them. David may or may not wish to comment on this.
Along with everyone else, I too appreciate your response! You guys are doing a great job. I can only speculate on how one planet affects another but as far as profitability but I would have a hard time seeing how it wouldnt affect them. Perhaps Planet Arkadia had no effect on the failure of SEE. As far as I am concerned if you keep up what you are doing as far as communication and your focus on the player base then I think you will be successful (MA is a variable too shrouded in secrecy to even figure into my equation but if you trust them then I have to as well). Best of luck to you and keep up the good work!
Exactly. freekin yeah! Man so very true. Suppose I will have to wait much longer before someone buys out Mindark entirelly and do a complete staff revamp with the same bussiness ethics of the A-team. Not to mention the quallity too Even tho they may have so much experience running a game their way for so long, doesnt mean squat at all. It will just be the same oll, same oll.
I think they had a visit from the swedish IRS and so their "sale" blew. Selling a Planet to a company where former staff is employed doesn't sound exactly foul proof, maybe that's the simplest of all things that happened. Just speculation though, but that is all there is to do since no real word out there.
