Expanding a bit on my idea it would be interesting if old looted items from a dead avatar were in various states of repair. Say you get loot worth 600 ped in tt, the items would be in various states of repair from 10% to 90%. If you take a weapon, the weapon may need some parts or be "repaired" via x number of successful clicks at crafting terminal...and may require a special blueprint. The discoverer may have a valuable item but it's in poor repair and he has no blueprint and does not have the "repair" skills or a very low chance of repairing the item. He gets some value by putting it up on auction and a skilled craftsman could buy it, repair it and sell it again. Nice fees for Ark in the process.

I have a few more ideas.

How about mining events modeled after the California or Klondike Gold Rushes? You could go out "panning for gold" or something similar. If you happen to find a certain type of claim, it triggers a "gold rush" in a certain area. Claims for a small land area, a few hundred or thousand square meters in size could be found in normal mining claims or released into auction at that point with an expiration date. People could exclusively mine that area for a time period or, like was stated earlier, perhaps put a "sluice" into operation, all from crafted parts of course. Perhaps it could be a team activity where one team member does x and another does y. Depending on how well they cooperate, it could increase their returns..

Scuba mining or skin diving would be cool since it's underwater and would require different skills, equipment....all craftable of course. Being an ex-crabber from Alaska, I thought owning a fishing boat would be cool. I like the wave action on Ark, BTW, how about some ocean storms....you could go out fishing and perhaps lose your load or load and boat if you lack the proper skills to navigate the storms. The only real problem I have is what would you loot? But then again, the mobs in game drop extractors, weapons and other items.

How about roaming bands of pirates that get released every so often. I am not talking about robot invasions which are just grinding events. But every month, say 10 bands of pirates are released somewhere on Ark. In those areas, it will be too dangerous to mine or hunt alone but, in a team, you can do well. Say the loot is likely have a 20% premium until all the pirates are killed or x time passes. What would be cool if if the pirates have X skill level and in order to do well, your team would have to match the skill level by using the proper equipment. i.e. if ubers in PoE all show up with uber gear they actually are penalized because the loot is optimized for hunters and miners in Pixie, etc. Of course regular skills would apply so they would miss less with opalos than noobs. That would give teams of all skill levels an incentive to participate. I don't do events on Calypso event precisely because the same avatars finish in the same order based on their skills, or so it seems to me.

Plaques so some other certificate, suitable for framing and hanging on the wall of my apartment would be cool for uber loots, significant achievements or unlocks would be nice.

Also, I think it's great that trade between planets is being explored. I have a few thoughts. First is that in EU, if I go to the former CND and hof mining I can put the items on auction there but don't because there is no real economy there. I take them back to Calypso at a certain point and sell them. I HATED the old pilot system didn't go places where I had to wait 6 hours for a ride and spend 10 minutes trying to get into a seat....I would rather pay the tp fee. Second, IRL you can/could take high value items such as diamonds an put them in a pouch and transport them on your person. You could also take a chest of gold from California back to Boston in your cabin. But you could not take 10,000 tons of coal and just walk very slowly to the tp. You needed a bulk transport carrier which brings up a few ideas.

It would be a great addition of bulk shipments above a certain threshold need to be shipped in bulk carriers. People could own the freighters and own/lease a terminal on both end just as IRL. Players could consign their shipments between planets for a negotiated fee. The shipment would take x amount of time to arrive at the destination but the avatar could just tp back so no delay for the avatar that consigned his shipment. The cargo would, however, have some time delay before showing up at the destination.

On twist is that the captain of the bulk carrier could decide to take the safe(r) long route and perhaps stop along the way for more cargo. Or s/he could take his/her chances with pirate infested areas. Kind of like mining or hunting in PVP now. Of course the potential profits for the captain/consigners would be bigger if they safely brave pirate infested areas. Pirates could get a % of the cargo if they do X amount of damage. People could protect the shipment too just like we had convoys and destroyers in WWII.

I haven't thought through all of my ideas but I bet people can run with them if they like basics.

    CO

P.S. I realize I have gone OT from the stated purpose of the thread but once I started typing it kept flowing and I wanted to get back to mining Ark. It was here or not at all.

Who cares? They are just early explorers from Calypso or other planets with similar/same items who disappeared years ago. Space ships must have existed for pioneers to get to Calypso in the first place. I am sure a few intrepid explorers wound up on other planets and met their demise.

Love the ideas being put forward here - if only part are put into place, Arkadia will be a magic place to be.

However, how about adding some real 'danger' ...... how about missions, dangerous missions, where, if you die, that's it, you get revived once, maybe twice but after that, the mission has terminated - there's no second chance?

Being revived in EU has led to the complacency that dying doesn't matter - why not have Arkadia reverse that - the more difficult the mission the more likely you are to die. And if you do die you don't revive for (say) an hour - make dying mean something!

This is exactly right. A "treasure" is something of value. Everything else around it (the quest, the story line, etc) are all fluff and really aren’t relevant.

You need something of value and people need to feel as if they have a real chance of finding it.

Treasure hunting = Hide something of value and create a complex process to find it.

The only thing that matters in a treasure hunt is the treasure itself because it is the treasure that causes people to endure the process of finding it.

You effectively had a nice treasure hunt going with the current Mothership competition and the Huon max loot potential however now that’s all screwed up...

The treasure hunting system hasn't even been implemented yet!

Clearly this is an individual feeling and attitude towards treasure hunting (the OP question is what does it mean to you). For myself, the quest, storyline etc are not just 'fluff' but will be a main part of my fun with treasure hunting when it is implemented. I would not for a second see all of that as something to 'endure' in the process of finding treasure, unlike many other 'missions' I've done in Entropia, but as something to remind me this is a game first and supposed to be fun, with dreams of dollar signs in my eyes second for sure. Just my thoughts, looking forward to seeing what they have cooked up for us with 'treasure' and the ruins, since I love the storyline.

I understand that and maybe i should have elaborated more.... Those who "gamble" in the professions are essentially on a treasure hunt if you think about it. I’m sorry to be so negative but I’m a bit pissed atm as are many people with yesterday's update/nerf

So for the spirit of being constructive and on topic with the thread:

If a treasure hunt planet theme is what you want, then in order for it to be successful it must be intertwined with the primary professions. Hunting, Mining, and Crafting is the core of the EU economy. A treasure hunting system must form a nice synergy with the existing profession(s) in some way.

Of course it is an individual feeling however I urge Arkadia to not stray too far away from the open-ended spirit of EU. Story lines and discovery have always been an aspect of the game to some extent however the core of EU is the Real Cash Economy. Without the RCE none of us would be here.

The masses will only be entertained so long by exploring the depths of another person's imagination. Hence the reason why most MMOs have such a high attrition rate yet at the same time a good story line along with the 'fluff' are basically mandatory in a "game" such as this.

The point of EU is the RCE... the promise of real treasure at the end of the rainbow is what will make a treasure hunt and its corresponding story line exciting. What I'm saying is that if the prize is of value then the treasure hunt concept will be a success.

Of course "value" is subjective and different people will assign different levels of value to different things. While a treasure hunt typically involves the promise of some kind of monetary gain, there are other aspects of value.

Someone did a study on gamers and we fall into 4 types.

    1. Achievers
    2. Socialisers
    3. Explorers
    4. Killers

The responses posted here will likely fall into those groups. As for me, I an achiever so the story line etc is all window dressing. I will learn as much as it takes to reach my goal and not much more. Of course, people will have different aspects to their personality so it's not 100% one and none of the rest. Funny, looking at the list I remembered it in the order I rank myself.

Its all about the exitement and exilliration of finding rare UL items. For example a unique ancient alien weapon with uber damage per shot. A rare invisibillity chip. Giro Mod-fap. Alienware Aurora or Area 51 desktop with 3 flatscreen monitors and acesoiries. A special RL goodies box with Ped voucher, Posters, Replica toys and 2 T-Shirts. Mabe Darri of Entropia Outfitters should be pulled into this by the A-Team. There is so much that can be done, the sky is the limit.

i was thinking this as a free thing you could do but to make it easier to find stuff you will need different items

more like a non depositor and a depositor could do
